How are my flisties today?

I'm happy to report that the tree that was once leaning on my porch is now gone, and grinded into a mound of mulch.  Poor Tree :(  Now, comes the next part, which includes dealing with a contractor to fix the porch roof, and finding a landscaper to fix the lawn and border.  We thought we had found a landscaper, but he was a no-show this morning with his estimate.  Why are contractors such weenies?

Haven't gotten to watch Supernatural yet.  I must be feeling a little "Meh" with that show, because I would usually have watched an episode I missed within 24 hours.

Putting everything else behind the cut, to include a clip from this weeks Smallville episode, Escape, thoughts on Project Runway and Justified, and some recent news on the cult NVIXM, which Kristin Kreuk and Allison Mack are both rumored to be members of.

Here's the Smallville clip.  This clip doesn't do much for me, as I find both Chloe and Lois irritating in it, and I hate these sorts of story contrivances, and I just hate the Chlollie pairing in general.

.

I don't know if anyone else on my flist watches Project Runway, but I am SO BUMMED OUT that Anthony was eliminated.  He was so damned entertaining, and such a sweetie.  And I realize he isn't the strongest designer (personally, I think Seth Aaron is), but did he really deserve to be eliminated over Jonathan's monstrosity, or that ugly dress Mila designed?  Her model couldn't even walk in it.

Also, I get that the judges are supposed to be critical, but they were just off the hook this week.  Michael Kors was such a bitch.  It is necessary to laugh at people?

Anyway, I'm rooting for Seth Aaron, and if Mila wins, I'm stabbing someone.

Week 2 of Justified was more of the awesome!  Timothy Olyphant continues to being the Sexy and the Charm, and I just feel like the show is just really well written.  Smart, and witty, but in a really subtle way.  And I totally get a kick out of Ava.

I'm not sure how I feel about this weeks Lost.  We did get some answers, which, YAY!  But it still feels like its Answers: 3, Questions: A Zillion!  I did think Nestor Carbanell was amazing, but I'm not sure I agree with the decision to dedicate a whole episode to his back story, with most of it in Spanish with subtitles, when there are so many things we need settled with our more core characters.

Still, I hope Nestor finds himself nominated for a supporting actor emmy.  It was a tour de force.

And, oh yeah, Titus Welliver is Hot!

NVIXM, the cult that Kristin Kreuk and Allison Mack supposedly belong to, made the news in NY this week.  Apparently 2 very rich sisters are part of the cult, and the cult leader has plowed through their trust funds.

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/cutting_heirs_AjuemIRHWxVMIAJQpCjXPP

I think Kristin and Allison are both lovely, talented, bright young women.  I find it really depressing that both of them are involved with a cult, especially one like this that has such a checkered past.  And I find myself very concerned when both of them talk about helping other people to better themselves, because that's this cults rhetoric to a T.  I only hope that, one day, both of them wake up and realize that they don't need this kind of crap in their lives.

Aw, it's too bad the clip isn't doing it for you, because as 'meh' as I've been about SV this season, I have to admit that I totally cracked up at the awkwardness of that scene. I do love some well-placed levity.

Too bad about the KK/AM thing. Yikes. I hope it doesn't affect them too much.

When it comes to SV, I'm a tough crowd. I know that. This clip sort of plays to many of the things I don't overly dig about SV this season, i.e. overly shippy, Chlollie, Chloe/Clark snippiness, Chloe and Oliver keeping things from Clark, Lois being a bit too much. And I'm probably getting too much from it, LOL

I don't understand people in cults. I'd be lying if I said it didn't effect my feelings about both of them. Mostly though because I want to smack them both, because I know they're smarter then this.

Wow. I ... hate that clip. The less said about it the better

I so loved that you hated it too. :)

I'm so with you on PR. Anthony's dress was boring? Well, at least it was functional, well made, and really wearable. I just do not understand the judges fascination with Mila at all (Nina, especially, is all gushy about her).

I very much like your top 3, but I think Emilio is going to be one of the top 3. He's a good designer, but I find his personality unpleasant.

As much as I give Timothy Olyphant all the credit for Justified, I'm amazed at how quickly the supporting cast is emerging in interesting ways.

I think Titus Welliver should appear on every show I watch, at least once. It should be a rule, or something.

Yowza, that was awkward :( Miss the perky nutter that was S1!Chloe (even if she did let jealousy get the best of her), this Chloe looks...rundown/defeated? Something like that :/

I wish they didn't spend so much time on Clark's romantic relationships or better yet gave him a couple of months with other characters that don't end in death. I've never actually read anything with her in but Lori Lemaris was Clark's girlfriend for a while. Since they seem to be including every other character in the DC universe I don't see why they couldn't have included her for a few eps.

Totally with you on the SPN 'Meh' thing. The only reason I'm caught up with it is cause I have to watch something while doing the ironing (it's a twice a month sorta thing, so there ends up being TONS to get done :P).

Don't watch Project Runway but I hope your Seth guy wins if only because we'd be deprived of your presence if you got carted away for attempted murder ;)

I'm not sure I entirely understand AM's performance this season.

One of the reasons I'm not overly enthused for Escape is the heavy emphasis on 'ships. Eh, I'm just not that interested or invested in any of them. Well, more then that, outside of Clois, I downright dislike them.

I personally thought Clark should've had a girlfriend between Lana and Lois, but they botched that idea up when they had Clark reunite with Lana in S7.

And LOL on you not wanting me to be arrested. I really appreciate it. :)

I don't like that clip and I hate Chlollie too. What a waste of time!

I'm glad you got rid of that tree (though I'm very sorry for it. I love trees!) It was fortunate that it didn't do more damage to your house. I hope you can have everything fixed soon!

At least I have some company of not liking the clip. I mean, I don't mind being an island when it comes to SV, its just nice not to be.

I'm hoping to have things back to normal soon, but I don't think that will be anytime in the next few months. So much to do, so little time.

Your contractor didn't show up? In this economy? Or is business booming because of storm damage where you are?

I don't know what to think about Supernatural these days. The boys' performances are great, I still like a lot of the action and the dialogue, but I just don't see the overall arc leading somewhere that's going to make me happy. They're undoubtedly going to kill more characters I like (I'm really worried about Bobby!), and make Dean cry and beat himself up more, and I'm just not looking forward to it. I'm tired of all my heroes getting kicked when they're down.

I think that's one of the big reasons I like Justified so much, even after just two episodes. Raylan isn't invincible, which would be boring, but they let him be wonderfully smart and competent. And of course it doesn't hurt that he's so damn sexy, and a great actor. I love the southern charm that infuses the whole show. Cooper, the guy who broke out of prison this week, was awesome.

I thought LOST was good, but I agree, it's obvious they're not going to have time to answer everything. And if I were one of those candidates, I'd be hoping I didn't get the job.

When a news story like that one comes out, wouldn't that make KK and AM rethink their association with this group? If they're totally sucked in, though, I suppose they would just rationalize it.

I like Tom's acting in that clip. He's the only one who seems natural to me. And he looks amazing. I can't wait for the screen caps from that episode!

I just don't understand contractors. I know they need the work, but they are so flighty. And if you can't even make an appt for a quotation, how can anyone trust you to show up and do the job?

I think I'm just suffering from SPN fatigue, because as you said, its just all so dark and depressing. And too often for my tastes, gross. What is with the gross stuff?

I find the characters on Justified to be very vivid. And it would be so easy to make them bad stereotypes, and on the surface, there is a bit of that. But yet, the writing gives them depth. Especially Raylan. I can't wait until we meet his father, because you know that coming.

I can't decide which LOST candidate is going to end up with the job. I think I'm leaning towards Hurley, quite frankly. We know its between Jack, Sawyer, Hurley, Sayid, Sun or Jin. Jack is too obvious. Sayid seems like a lost cause. Sun and Jin will do it together, or not at all. Which leaves Sawyer and Hurley. Honestly, Sawyer would make one kick-ass island guardian, but I really think Hurley would be the leading candidate right now.

Even before these latest stories on NVIXM, there was enough out there to warn people off. I don't understand cults. Never have, never will. Well, thats not entirely true, because I do understand how the lonely and disenfranchised get sucked in. But how does that explain KK and AM?

In the clip, I was fine with Tom and Justin. Or, maybe I should say Clark and Oliver. But Chloe and Lois? Annoying!

Tom looks so amazing this year, I just don't understand how its even possible. He is an impossibly lovely man.

Ugh. Contractors. My experience with them runs about 50% for them showing up when they're supposed to. When you find a good one though, he's GOLD. Good luck with that. ;)

I liked the clip, but mostly because holymofo, look at Tom! I miss seeing the guy, I really do. And am I the only one who sees a bit o'jealousy in the look he gives Oliver? LOL...I can't help it, I loves me some Clollie.

SPN still amuses and entertains me enough to watch every week. Granted, I mostly watch for the laughs now, which is the same road I walked with Buffy towards the end. I'm not sure why I lose my emotional involvement with certain shows. I'm trying to hang on to SV in that manner, but it's kind of a struggle.

I enjoy PR, but haven't watched this season at all. I'll probably catch it in reruns. It's a show my daughter and I like to watch together.

Ack! Must catch up on Justified. Another friend told me it's on On Demand. Maybe tomorrow I can watch back to back and catch up.

I've actually read up on and followed the NXIVM connection with KK and AM for quite a while now. There was a huge thread and some intense and enlightening discussion about the whole thing on one of the a capella forums right after that show sponsored by NXIVM that the girls appeared at. I like to think that they are both going into this with honestly good, if naive, intentions. The most concerning thing I've read is the accusations of hypnotic-type mind control that takes place during the initial meetings. It's all very sad, and I really hope it's not as bad a situation as it sounds. Ultimately, they are grown women who are free to make their own choices, no matter how sketchy their associations are. That Vanguard guy is absolutely frightening. I'm just concerned enough to have not encouraged my daughter to get involved with the Girls By Design thing - even though KK (or Kendra?) did make a statement at one point saying there was no connection between GbD and NXIVM). Still.. ya know?

I just really don't understand people who say they're going to show up at a certain time, and then just don't show up. Contractors, or anyone else. Its just so freaking rude.

When you say that you love Clollie, do you mean Chloe/Oliver, or Clark/Oliver? And yes, Tom is looking especially gorgeous. I just don't know how he keeps getting better looking.

I remember reading that NVIXM thread on that a capella MB. I thought it was very informative, not to mention downright disturbing. And thats also where it became apparent that this cult is into recruitment. And yes, I hate to say it, but it does make me very uneasy about Kristin's Girls By Design. Because, really, who is more impresonable than teenage girls? I know they issued a statement about no affliation between GBD and NVIXM, but a lot of the stuff Kristin says is cult rhetoric. Like when she talks about "accountability". Thats where that stuff comes from. And she's such a lovely, talented, bright woman, so I don't understand how she got caught up in this. It makes me sad.

I didn't like that clip either. I'm so tired of all that forced shipper stuff. And Chloe in her actual state of mind, feeling "romantic" enough for a b&b thing, sounds totally off to me.
I really really don't have the mind of a shipper because all I can feel is being baffled by the inepty of that scene.

Yeah, I don't quite buy Chloe and Oliver going off to a B&B to have sex with each other. It seems unlikely, but then again, so does Chlollie.

Wow, I didn´t know about KK and AM being involved in that cult. I can´t say I´m too surprised though, especially with regard to AM. Judging from her website she seems to have a penchant for the lofty. I just hope I will never hear anything about TW and a cult. I trust he´s grounded and intelligent enough to know better.

As for the clip, I am actually most irritated by Lois because I can´t see any special connection between her and Clark. She was babbling on like always. If you are in love with someone, wouldn´t you be a little bit more sensitive towards your partner´s feelings? I would expect her to say something nice to him to ease his awkwardness, but no, she just goes on with the banter. Anyway, as long as Tom looks so lickable, I can´t wait to see Escape. LOL

I better won´t comment much on the lightswitched, unnatural and forced Chlollie relationship. I simply don´t see where this comes from. And it doesn´t work. Actually none of Chloe´s flings have ever worked for me. So I am starting to think that it could be a problem with AM being unable to play romance convincingly. I never see any romantic chemistry in Chloe, and never have. Don´t know why. If AM is as good an actress as so many say she is, she sould be able to pull off romance too. But in my view she can´t...

No comment on the other shows because I don´t watch them... :)

If you want to see a great performance by Titus Welliver, watch Gone Baby, Gone. I don't love the movie, but Titus is amazing in it.

Hell, if I was Ava, I'd be trying to hit that as often as possible.

I just have a feeling that Escape is going to annoy me more then entertain me, but I'm totally open to being wrong. Tess is in this one. She'll be tangling with Zod, and I think thats going in a shipping direction too, which, Yawn! But at least I know I'm not supposed to believe thats based on anything more then power plays, and getting the upper hand. And that can be entertaining.

I find cults very disturbing. That so many people fall victim to them is so baffling to me, but especially when we are talking about people who have so much going for them.

That clip is way too far into sitcom territory for me. Also, given that the show has been very scarce with Chloe/Lois scenes this year, having them suddenly close again in this clip seems discordant.

It is very sitcom-y to me. But I thought the concept was going to lean in that direction even before I saw the clip.

I find it very hard to buy any sort of real connection between Lois and Chloe. You can only ignore a relationship for so long before one stops believing in it altogether.

To be honest I love the clip. I enjoy the show a hell of alot more when it becomes more light hearted and "fluffy" then when it resorts of angst and heavy drama. I just hope the full episode is that way and doesn't take a turn for the worse by the end of it. Episodes like Spirit and Hex are some of my favorites because the more light hearted feel to htem.

As for NVIXM, it is sort of wierd when you read about it and see some of the projects KK and AM do. For the reason they might be into it, organizations like that usually give stars special treatment so they only get the good side of it. I am fairly certain that at some point they go to a conference of "all the lies spread about the organization" at some point to counteract the negative spin they might see in the media.

Mar. 28th, 2010 11:38 pm (UTC)
I think I like the show better when it finds a happy medium between the fluffy and the angst.

I'm sure that cults do their own PR push. But you'd think intelligent people who do a little independent research.

You see no evidence of NVIXM being a cult, or that Kristin and Allison are members of it? Because really, a simple google search would settle both of those questions for you. Both Allison and Kristin have been in attendance at group meetings, they both judged at the a cappella singing contest, which was sponsered by NVIXM (and as we would come to find out, the group was using the event to attempt to recruit).

But hey, I don't really need to convince anyone. You can ask around in both fandoms. I don't really think its a big secret.

NVIXM is clearly a cult. I'm dubious whether they're a part of it. If they are they must not be active...you'd think that it would be well known instead of assumed.
