Hello Flist!  How is everyone today?

I know I had promised some SV fun and games, with the whole "Tweak the Smallville" thing, but I sort of turned cold on the idea.  I realized that I was going to have to rewatch all the eps to do it properly (for me, anyway).  And I did rewatch Savior and Metallo.  Which is when I realized that I really didn't have a lot of great desire to rewatch all the eps.  How sad is that?  Well, pretty freaking sad to me.  I wish I didn't feel so ambivalent.  I wish I saw some of the "all this is so great!" that others talk about.  But truth be told, I'm really not feeling it.

And to make matters worse, these answers at (Warning SPOILERShttp://www.fancast.com/blogs/2010/tv-news/the-big-tease-scoop-on-bones-csi-ny-and-lots-more/   ...

Well, the first one makes me want to kick puppies.  Its the same old shit from the writers, and it just makes me sad and tired.

So, long story short, the tweaking is not happening.  I'm just feeling too Blah on SV.

On the home front, I got some things straightened out with the insurance company, so now I can go about getting a tree company to come remove the tree from my house.  Basically, whoever can come first has the job.  But I imagine the tree companies are busy beavers these days.

Turning my attention back to televsion....for any of you Lost watchers out there, is it just me, or has not one really significant question been answered so far?  And this show is going to end in 8 eps in a satisfactory manner?  Oh, I think not my friends.  But, on the good side, last nights ep was a showcase for my favorite character, Sawyer aka James Ford.  And as usual, Josh Holloway was great, and brought the pretty.  I also like that the character did just what I'd expect him to do, which showed great consistency in the writing for him.  I appreciate that.

After Lost, I watched the premiere of Justified on FX, starring the en fuego Timothy Olyphant

The premiere was fantastic!  I highly recommend the show.  It was smart, and unique, and exceptionally well written (based on an Elmore Leonard character).  Olyphant was pitch perfect.  I have high hopes for this show, and I'm only sad it doesn't air back-to-back with Sons of Anarchy, because that would be 2 hours of Super Awesome!

But *sigh* I still miss Deadwood, and Seth Bullock.

On May 1, my sisters, my brother-in-law, my niece, and some friends are all going to walk in the Revlon Walk-a-thon in Manhattan in support of finding a cure for breast cancer.  I'm really looking forward to it, and I'm having some t-shirts specially made to show our support for my late sister.

And, I end this randomosity post with a picture of He Who Is The Fairest Of Them All....I actually never saw this particular picture until someone posted it on K-Site (I'm sorry, I don't recall who for proper credit).  I've seen a variation of it, with a little smile.  But never this one.  Its Young Tommy, but young or old, the man is stunning.

//How sad is that? Well, pretty freaking sad to me.//

Now that I think about it, I haven't rewatched a single ep from this season yet either. Ad that ::is:: strange because I always pop in an ep or two here and there during hiatus. Or maybe it's just because I'm just really fatigued in general these days. Aside from a nice weekend away, I swear it's like I've been stuck in finances all month long.

I'm so relieved to hear that you managed alright with the insurance company. I was hoping you wouldn't have to go through hell with that.

The walk-a-thon is definitely something to look forward to. And if you don't mind me asking, how is your niece doing? I've been meaning to ask.

//Well, the first one makes me want to kick puppies.//

And see, this is why I avoid spoilers, heh. I didn't click on the link, but I can just about imagine the kind of crap that is being sprouted. Lemme guess this though - a Brian or Kelly interview?

//is it just me, or has not one really significant question been answered so far?//

What makes it even more glating for me, is that I'm also doing a Lost rewatch and somewhere in to S2, I'm constantly realizing the number of questions there are already, that have yet to be answered. It's crazy. I just got done with the latest ep though and I did like it. I thought Sawyer and Miles were terrific together and the island stuff seemed to fit, as far as Sawyer' character goes. I still kept hoping (foolishly) that Sawyer would run in to Juliet in the other timeline somehow. I had assumed in the seasons first ep, when she was dying that the 'coffee' she was rambling about was actually her having an experience from the parallel timeline. I guess not. As for the rest of the season, again, like you said, I just can't see how it can come to ::any:: sort of ::conclusion::, let alone satisfactory, with ::just:: 8 eps left. It's not so much about the quality of the eps this season, because I have been enjoying them, but rather that it doesn't feel like The final chapter. More like the penultimate chapter.

Ah, young Tommy. He's so ethereally beautiful.

I think I might have rewatched parts of Rabid, Warrior and Conspiracy. And I love rewatching the very beginning of Crossfire, because Clark at the talkshow audition is one of the most adorable things, Ever! But thinking about sitting down and rewatching these eps from beginning to end? Nah. And some of them, like Roulette, Echo, AJ, Persuasion, Disciple? I don't even have the urge to rewatch parts of them.

My niece is doing OK. She's got a very busy social life, and a big circle of friends, and I think thats really been the best thing for her. In fact, I just got a text from her, asking if I want to go see the high school play with her.

The spoiler isn't an interview. Its an answer to a question posted by Matt from TV Guide. So, there's always the possibility he's wrong. But it sounds so much like the SV we know, I doubt it.

Sawyer + Miles = Love So Much! I just love how Sawyer has forged these real bonds with a few others, like Miles and Jin, and what that shows us about his character. When he promised Jin they wouldn't leave the island without Sun, I was like "Hell Yeahs!"

But as much as I liked having a Sawyer ep, what answers did it give us? None, really.

Yeah, I used to watch SV eps over and over again. Now? I just can't. Not even the old ones so much, because its just such a disconnect. I don't believe the show is a reboot, as some claim, but I do think the shows evolution has taken us a long way from where we started. Maybe too far.

But I'm in it until the end of My!Clark. I'm devoted to him, and Mr Pretty Welling.

I think with regards to Lost, the whole parallel universe just feels like a giant waste of time. There better be a good reason for all of that, because it eats up a huge chunk of the show, and it seems pointless.

Can you imagine Sons and Justified back-to-back? Would that not be perfection? I can't believe FX didn't think of it.
Mar. 17th, 2010 07:31 pm (UTC)
Hey! As you know I've watched a whopping one episode this season of SV so yeah I'm there with you about the ambivalence. I keep saying I'm going to watch the season on DVD but I don't know I'm kind of over it you know. Any way wasn't Justified great? I miss Deadwood too. *sigh* I wish HBO would have made those films like they had planned. I miss all those characters.

You know, for me Lost has been the most uneven show on TV. I like the core cast but the show lost me when they brought in so many other people and got lost in creating this intricate pile of mythology that really just bores me to tears most of the time. It really seems to expect that I spend my entire life trying to puzzle out all thes little clues - no thank you.

As for Smallville, it kind of expects the opposite of you - that you NOT try to put the pieces together, that you forget past developments and just go with the flow. And to the extent that I can do that, I can really enjoy the show. But yes, reading that they're rather gleefully setting up Clark for failure is the ultimate downer. I wish I could understand Brian and Kelly's thought process!

But I really need some Val meta - I need my Smallville thinky thoughts! Something you can do off the top of your head, like favorite SV FOTWs and why they worked? I've always kind of wanted to do a rogue's gallery for the show.

Lost is uneven. And there are lots of S3 & S4 that just felt like giant wastes of time. I liked S5 more. And its not that I don't like S6, it just doesn't feel like its reaching any conclusions, which is frustrating.

I do think the big cast changes with Lost have been jarring. But in some cases, it was an improvement. I'll take Miles, Frank and Ben over Michael, Shannon and Boone anyday. But the cast changes, and the number of cast members just made the show unweildy (is that a word?)

With SV, I agree with you, in that it doesn't respect its own continuity very much, and it really does have an "out-of-sight-out-of-mind" mentality, which I find frustrating. But I could be alright with that if they just seemed to have a different opinion, approach and respect for Clark. Thats ultimately what brings the show down for me. I think I could deal with everything else, but thats a dealbreaker.

But, I will be there with the reviews and meta as long as I can muster up the will to do it. :D

Favorite FOTW's? I love the idea. Favorite guest stars is another one. I love lists.

I think you have a healthy attitude on SV. Sometimes, I do too. And sometimes, I just get so frustrated with the writing, and the choices TPTB make. Because, to me, its so fucking obvious how Clark should be respected on this show. And when he isn't, I just do. not. get. it.

The polar bears were brought to the island as an experiment being conducted by a group called the Dharma Initiative. But I don't remember if it was explained more then that.

I love seeing so many Deadwood fans. I adored that show, like, Wow! Al and Woo's conversations were just the funniest things ever. Every single character was interesting, and layered.

For a while there, HBO was on a role, with Carnivale, Deadwood, then Rome. Now I'm watching The Pacific, but the first ep wasn't too thrilling. It was no Band of Brothers.

There are so many pictures of Tom, whether they be photo shoots, stills, or even candids, where I just think to myself "Is he even real?"

He is crazy hot. Its like, he's not the best looking guy out there, but he's so damned sexy. I've had a thing for him since the movie Go (and if people haven't seen that movie, SEE IT!).

Licking Tom pictures is perfectly understandable. Just look at him! Thats not even supposed to occur in nature.

I agree with you that this season, Lost has been really entertaining. Jack hasn't even made me want to spork out my eyeballs. I'm just afraid we're going to get to the end, and be like "And then?"

And thank you for losing your shit, because THAT! is exactly how I feel. Its just so freaking old and tired at this point, and we all know the drill. At this point, I'm really convinced that we are going to end this season validating Chloe much moreso then Clark. In fact, I'm calling it right now. If I'm wrong though, expect me to admit it, and be glad I'm wrong.
Mar. 18th, 2010 05:54 am (UTC)
hahaha! I was heaving sighs at the idea of re-watching all the episodes too and I really enjoy Clark/Lois and for the most part, this season. I still might take on the tweaking challenge... I don't know.

You watched Justified?! I missed it but stayed up late to watch the encore showing on FX. *sigh* It was boring to me. But I do love the main character guy. I wasn't into the villains of this first episode.

Good luck on your walk for breast cancer!
Mar. 18th, 2010 01:35 pm (UTC)
Heck, the challenge is still open. If you take it on, I'll try and contribute. I just can't seem to make myself rewatch.

Its too bad you didn't like Justified, but nothing is for everyone, ya know? I may decide I'm not into it after a few eps myself. Thats what happened to me with Spartacus.

I take a vow to be optimistic over this hiatus, and then we get a spoiler like that. I'm trying not to think about it, and wait for the episode. For me it's depressing. I know it won't happen in a million bazillion years, but I wish Tom would do an interview and tell us why Clark fans should be looking forward to the rest of this season. :(

I watch bits and pieces of S9 episodes, usually scenes where Clark is strong, heroic, and assertive. And scenes where Tom is funny, like the beginning of Crossfire and Clark's date with Cat Grant. I'll watch most of Rabid, most of Warrior, the Clark/Ollie scenes in Kandor, the end of Pandora, the scene with Dr. Fate in AJ, the scene with BAG in Metallo, his Superman speech to the Wonder Twins in Idol, a few others. My own personal reel of Clark's greatest hits, I guess.

And I stopped looking at what people are saying to the writers on Twitter. Please.

That's a wonderful pic of Josh Holloway! I swear, Sawyer is about the only character I even like on LOST anymore. Not that I'm terribly invested in it all. I've watched from the first episode, and I almost never understand what's going on, but it's still a fun ride, so I watch. I was excited by the parallel stories at first, but I can't figure out what the point is, exactly. Mostly they seem kind of sad and ordinary, like a show I'm glad I haven't been watching for the past six years. I liked Sawyer's the best, but I'm not sure how much of that was due to Josh's devastating dimples, his gorgeous bare chest, and his sexy scowl. :)

I will say that I loved it in last week's episode when Kate was so confident she could get Sawyer to come back and he totally shut her down. I'm so petty! LOL! But then this week, when he called her Freckles, I melted. I'm hopeless.

I loved Justified! I don't think I would ever have watched it if I hadn't seen all the rave reviews, but I'm so glad I did. I've never seen Timothy Olyphant in anything before, he was amazing. The deadly promise he communicated with just the look in his eyes and the set of his jaw was stunning! He barely moved a muscle, and yet there was no doubt about who was in charge in his scenes. The violence was shocking, but totally appropriate. I am so in.

The Walk-a-Thon sounds very cool, what a great way to remember and honor your sister. I hope it's a happy family day for you, with glorious weather.

It's funny, that pic of Tom is one of the very first I ever saved to my hard drive (I have no idea now where I found it), and has always been one of my very favorites. About a year and a half ago, I posted an entry asking if anyone had it in a larger size, and no one did, but Carol shared the more smiley version, which I hadn't seen before that. And one of my friends made me an icon of it, which I love beyond all reason! :) It's one of those pics that just makes your heart stop, isn't it? He is the most beautiful man who has ever lived, I swear to God.

Re: The Upgrade spoiler: Oh for the love of GOD, not this shit AGAIN!!!!!!! What part of "World's Greatest hero" do people not understand? *bangs head against desk* I'm tired of this. Can we get, Geoff Johns and Miller to write the rest of the season???? Please???? Even if Johns doesn't concentrate of Clark at least he won't make him look like an idiot

Oh for the love of GOD, not this shit AGAIN!!!!!!!

My reaction exactly!!

No thanks of Geoff Johns for me though. I don't think he has any real interest in writing Clark. I think he's more interested in introducing lesser known DC characters. So, if he was writing, I suspect Clark would be doing a lot of standing around in the background.

I LOVE THAT SPOILER! *draws little hearts around it*. I hope Clark will be jealous he's DUE because Lois has been jealous more then him and he'll want to kill Metallo YAY! Clark is so sexy when he's on red k wanting to kill a guy for Lan... I mean Lois.

LOL. Kidding.

LOL. I really thought you had hit your head on something. Hard!
Mar. 18th, 2010 10:39 pm (UTC)
To be honest it would be hard to do rewrites for episode how I think they would be better(which would apply to the bulk opf the series since S2). My rewriters would involve cutting out major chunks of many episodes. In General though for S9 it would involve

1. Get rid of Chloe, her character has been an issue since S5 to be honest. If Chloe isn't there Clark would have to be more proactive figuring out crap for himself, heaven forbid(which means more screentime for him). Added bonus this season, less angst in Clark's life.

2. no plots focusing on Ollie, make him a secondary character who Clark talks to once in a blue moon

3. Make Zod be a badass who wants to take over the world, enough with the morally grey villians. *yawn*

4. No Lois goes to the future. I thought Pandora was a waste and just a cheap excuse for the producers to have Clois sex and not fully develop the Zod Storyline(ie look in the future Zod is bad, need we say more). The whole Lois going to the future should have been resolved in Episode 1.

Just apply those ideas to all episodes and they would be much better

wish I knew how to edit posts but since I can't would = wouldn't above.

I should also point out in the last Lost episode, not enough Hurley, he is my favorite character

LOST actually bored me this week. I think the biggest thing they answered was the origin of the smoke monster. The Richard story is coming this week and there is supposed to be an episode where the main characters are only in it for a few minutes and it's a mythology episode. I'm guessing that this is the episode where A.LOT. of shit is answered.

And, whenever you post those pics of Tom I can't help but visualize God up there going..."Ok..this goes to Tom..this goes to Tom..this goes to Tom..this goes to Tom..Okay...all done...wait..I'm forgetting something....SHIT!!!! Uhm...yeah...let's see what scraps I have left...okay..got enough....THIS goes to Steve....ALL DONE!!!"

Mar. 19th, 2010 01:56 pm (UTC)
I love Sawyer, and I really liked how his parallel universe was developed. But it certainly didn't answer anything of value.

I like Richard, so I'm looking forward to this upcoming ep, but I'm not holding my breath on shit getting answered.

LOL. Don't worry Steve. I think its probably best to try and think of Tom as some sort of genetic anamoly. Consider him some sort of freak of nature. Its what I do with Charlize Theron, and I feel better.
Mar. 20th, 2010 02:46 am (UTC)
Yum yum...thanks for sharing that pic of a young Tom! I've never seen that particular one before :)

As for the spoiler...I wanted to bang my head on my desk when I read that about Clark-RED K and doing something rash again ie now he'll be blamed again. Overall I am enjoying S9 but I understand why others are not feeling so inclined. *shrugs*

That sounds like a really great way to support your late sis and help out for a great cause. :)

Good to hear that you got the insurance stuff worked out and you can get the tree removed babe! So beyond fixing up that mess from mother nature...what are your next renovation plans? We have a 1929 house that we had to do alot of work on but not because it was a mess but rather the last reno was done in the 1940's...electrical and plumbing needed to be done for insurance reasons and so that lead to us re-doing or should I say "gutting" the kitchen and bathroom. I am proud to say I had fun using the sledge hammer! With that said I love trying to preserve the character of the house like all the original wood work/moldings, plaster fancy ceiling in the living room, stained glass windows etc. The inside is basically done except for finishing the basement so now its the exterior....
Mar. 20th, 2010 04:30 am (UTC)
I think if I posted all the pics of Tom that I love, I'd need about 20 journal entries.

Next renovation plan is some electrical updates. We're pretty much maxed out with the current power box, so we're having a 2nd box installed, having the kitchen brought up to code (which means all the appliances are on their own circuits), and having the garage on a dedicated box.

After that, I have some smaller electrical things I need done in the house (some changes in lighting fixtures), and after that, a new bathroom floor, and maybe more.

Oh, yeah, and landscaping stuff.

A house is exhausting. LOL

It sounds like you guys did some very nice stuff. It is fun to update, and make changes. But its a lot of work to get to the finish line.

Thanks. I know I can be severe with SV, but I also think I'm very fair. And as much as I can be critical, I don't think the show is anywhere near the disaster some people claim it to be.

I am not at all adverse to good plotlines for Lana, or Chloe, or Lois, or anyone. I just think that needs to be a secondary concern. The first concern should be writing Clark Kent right! Because at the end of the day, if you don't get him right, then what is your whole show really about? Supporting cast?
