Clark Kent Meme - Combat, Progeny, Nemesis

I like Combat.  I know Clark's attitude is not great in the beginning of the episode, but I like how its put together, and I LOVE the fight.  The Lexana part though makes me see red.  I've always been bothered by fandom's attitude towards what Lex did to Lana as though it was nothing (and yet Lana still loving Clark is a criminal offense).  So not right.

I think Progeny is dull.  And I'll always believe that Helen Slater should've played Chloe's mom, and Lynda Carter should've played Lara.  Because, Look at them!  Who looks like they could've birthed who.

I adore Nemesis.  Its my favorite episode of S6.  The Clex is great.  And Lana is fun-scary in that episode.

So Freaking Beautiful!

This reaction shot to Lois is classic.  He must've been thinking what I was thinking "Where the hell did she get that outfit?"

Great caps!
Haha, his expression in the last one is funny.
I love the first one though, his eyes look so green.

That first cap is one of my favorite caps of alltime. He's just perfection.

It is just beautiful. Its...dare I say?...flawless.

I have to admit, I'm not a big fan of the red pleather outfit. I just didn't think it was necessary, or added to the episode. I did think the Clois scenes in the ring were humorous.

Me too. Its just so gorgeous.

Ya know, I like Lex, and I'm not a big Lana fan, but the situation is what it is, and Lana was terribly violated by Lex. He was WRONG! And it was not her fault that he did that to her. I don't condone how she vented her anger, but I sure do understand her anger.

I agree with all your comments on the episodes. I love Combat, and have rewatched it multiple times, as I have with Nemesis. Nemesis works for me because all the characters are (to my mind) firing on all cylinders, and perfectly in character — for good or ill.

It had never occurred to me to switch the Lynda Carter-Helen Slater casting, but you're absolutely right. That would have been genius. And it would have meant that we actually got a scene between our Wonder Woman and our Superman. That they had Lynda Carter on set, and didn't have even one line exchanged between her character and Clark was just... insane.

And yes. Lex doing that to Lana is simply unforgivable. No question in my mind, no looking back.

Combat is just fun for me. The fight is as good as anything SV has ever done before and since. Oh, and the guest star cracks me up. Talk about a nutty performance!

I thought, ultimately, Lynda Carter was wasted. And she and AM were not believable as mother/daughter, especially since we already saw the back of Chloe's very blonde mother. At least LC got some good scenes with MR.

I can see people trying to understand what Lex did, and why. We all fanwank for our favs. But I don't get the blaming Lana for what Lex did to her.

Great caps Val but my fav is the one from COMBAT with Clark's wild curly locks *grins* I liked COMBAT too and I like how both Clark and Lois were investigating separately and ended up in the exact same spot...oops! I loved the look on his face when he saw who he had to fight too. Oooh or how about when she wants him to hit her..lol. The fight sequence...I liked seeing Clark have to really use his powers and fight for all it was worth. I think whoever was in charge of this sequence should have done Doomsday!

Lexana..sigh. I hated the whole fake pregnancy thing done by Lex and it was horrible what he did...desperate action 'cause I think he knew that deep down that Lana still loved Clark. But I don't think that it was Lana's fault that he did this to her. We had 7 years of insight into how SV's Lex was raised so I'm not surprised that he would ruin what he had with Lana. I do believe also that Lana did love Lex as well and that's why it was tragic as well and she went so vengeful in the end and had a hard time letting those feelings go.

What was up with the casting re:Slater and Carter? Just because Slater played Kara in way back when didn't automatically mean she should play Lara right? Wonder Woman playing Supes Mom would have worked too *grins*

Me too. Its a plotline they should use more often.

I think there's some element in our show that just thinks "Oh Cool, Stunt Casting!", but doesn't always think it through. And frankly, Helen Slater was so awful.

Ooh, the green eyes in cap #1 are mesmerizing me!

And I'll always believe that Helen Slater should've played Chloe's mom, and Lynda Carter should've played Lara. Because, Look at them! Who looks like they could've birthed who.
LC would have made an amazing Kryptonian - could totally see her kicking Zor-El's ass!

His green eyes are just so stunning.

Physically, there's no doubt in my mind that they got it wrong with LC's casting. Its always going to be one of those things that just bugs me.

Yeah, Tomb. I guess Lex gave her a dye job when he kidnapped her? He's thoughtful like that. ;)

I hated Combat. In my view it was one of the episodes (together with Phantom) which did the most damage to the character of Clark in Season 6. Clark was portrayed as a love-sick thug. I also hated the fight because I hate fights per se, but in this case also because Clark was shown to actually enjoy the violence. After all, the fight was not so much about battling a zoner, but about Clark´s rage. And this one moment when Clark had this terrible grin on his face before he beat up Titan ruined everything for me, because this was the moment showing that it was not about Titan but about his rage only. Very primitive and the very antithesis of everything Clark. So for me Combat will always be one of the worst SV episodes ever. Just for once to disagree with you. :)

Thats OK, we're still buds, right? :D

Ya know, I can actually understand what you're saying, and you are right. They probably did go too far with it, and Clark's motivation was really for shit. Its really too bad that so many SV eps fall into this grey zone where most of us are left looking for something to like about an episode, instead of just liking an episode top-to-bottom.

Nemesis love!!!! It really is one of the best, though so sad compared to say Jitters at how much distrust there is. I loved Lana on the warpath too: her computer hacking here is an interesting prelude to S7's Lana cave.

As for the pregnancy, its never that I think Lana deserved that, especially since the fake miscarriage would no doubt tie in her head with the whole dead parents thing which takes the scenario from cruel and manipulative to outright vicious. A little of my sympathy gets grounded though by some of her snide comments to Chloe and Clark when they warned her about Lex. And in her heart, she knew Lex was up to dodgy stuff with 33.1 so she had an INKLING of what Lex was capable of. But for Lex to do this to her, a women he professed to love, presumably to pressure into marrying him - yes, that's wrong on so many levels. There's no way she could have warranted it.

My problem with the fake!baby plot was always that it came off making Lex look desparate, weak, incompetent... a whole bunch of words that I don't want associated with him. And of course, there's the fact that his actions in Static in particular don't match up AT ALL with him having known about the pregnancy in advance, much less having faked it. I'd like to think there's something much more Machiavellian that happened, yet to be uncovered.

I think Nemesis is just one of those eps that works. And when an episode "works", you forgive it a lot. Like, I loved that scene of Clark/Lana at the end, even though I knew it should be bugging me. But it was just so beautifully done, and the actors conveyed so much with it. It "worked"!

I understand thinking that Lana reaped a bit of what she sowed with Lex. I agree with that. But I still can't condone what he did to her, or blame her for it, or equate her actions to that point as being comparable or worse then Lex's. But do I think Lana was a big idiot for getting involved with Lex? Yes! Do I think Clark was to blame? Hell to the Fucking NO! And the show can bite me with that excuse.

The fake baby plot was very unkind to Lex as a character. Honestly, Lexana was just all around unkind to Lex as a character. I always thought it was a monumentally awful idea.

And I'll always believe that Helen Slater should've played Chloe's mom, and Lynda Carter should've played Lara.

Brilliant casting! You are so right. Did you notice that they never let Miss Carter stand next to Chloe? Miss Carter was always sitting down. She was just too tall and Amazonian to be Chloe's mom. And what would a woman like her see in Gabe Sullivan? Unless, Gabe had a huge hidden talent. ;-)

Apologies to Miss Slater's fans, but she is just too indecisive and wussy to play Clark's mom. It was probably one of the reasons why the Supergirl movie didn't click.

And Season 4 and 5 was when I started liking Lana again. And that fake pregnancy---that was beyond the limit. No apologies for Lex were ever possible after that. Not for me. Lex was evil and the perfect villain for Clark to fight and master.

And those pink cheeks of Clark's. Rosecea never looked so good.

There's just nothing about Lynda Carter that fits her being Chloe's mother. And I refuse to believe a wet dishrag like Slater's Lara could've birthed Clark. I just refuse. Maybe she's like fake Kara of S3, and the real one will shop up later? I can hope.

I love Tom's rosey cheeks. Maybe because my complexion is very similar.
