Smallville Spolier

How about this for timing.  Just a few days after I post something about my reaction to the upcoming spoilers and, BAM!, we get a spoiler I'm excited about. :)

Type your cut contents here.

From Craig at K-Site

"- In trying to save Lex, it sounds like Clark will enter Lex's mind much like John Jones rescued Clark in "Labyrinth." While "inside," Clark encounters a side of Lex that he thought was gone forever."

Now this is a spoiler I can get excited about!!

See, for me, I'm always going to believe that this show should primarily be about Clark, secondarily about Lex, and the most important relationship on the show should be Clex.  Thats the dynamic that actually sets the show apart, and makes it unique.  Shows with drippy teenage angst romances are a dime a dozen.  But 2 iconic enemies started off as unlikely friends?  Now thats something we can work with.  Or, should've worked with anyway.

I do fret a bit about the part of the spoiler that reads "it sounds like", because it makes me believe that perhaps this spoiler isn't quite as certain as it sounds.  But the concept appeals to me.

I like the idea of keeping the Clex relationship alive, even if its become adverserial.  And I like the idea of finding new and interesting ways to have them interact which doesn't involve Clark busting into the mansion, or the 2 of them in a sniping contest about Lana.  This spoiler might just fit the bill.  And I also like the fact that we have Clark going above and beyond to save Lex.  Now thats my guy!!

But make no mistake, whatever revelations Clark comes to after this whole thing, I certainly hope its not him taking on the blame for what, and who, Lex is.  I believe that Clark can feel compassion and empathy for Lex, but not be a simp, or an apologist.  Surely Clark has made mistakes, but so has Lex, and ultimately we are all responsible for the choices we make.  And certainly Lex's choices should not be forgotten.  But I do enjoy the idea of Clark always believing that there's something in Lex worth saving, and some part of him that could be redeemed.  We all know the ending, so we know it won't happen.  But Clark doesn't know the ending, so him holding out a glimmer of hope is just a plus for his character.  Its the sort of characteristic I want in my future Superman

Its so nice to have a S7 spoiler I'm looking forward to.  And I'm so surprised it came from this episode. :D

oh yes, exactly. i'm an adult with no interest in "drippy teenage angst romances"! but the unlikely friends? i'm there.

>But I do enjoy the idea of Clark always believing that there's something in Lex worth saving, and some part of him that could be redeemed.

yes, again. i'm all about the possibility of redemption!

Ah, if only this show had truly been about a frienship of legend. What a show it could've been. *sigh*

If only...:/

and yes again! that's precisely what disappoints me about the show. what a wasted opportunity! MR and TW are both up to the acting it would take to show that, too.

if it weren't for fanfic, i'd have bailed quite some time ago. :/

I know how you feel :(

I'm sticking till the end though. I'm just like that. And even if I wasn't, Tommy is totally my TV boyfriend. And after this show, he might go away forever *eek!* I'm taking in every second of him while I still can. LOL

i have to admit that i'm rather in love with mr. welling myself. *longing sigh*

he does give vibes like he'd like an actual private life, doesn't he? it'd be sad if he left acting for something else, but whatever he does, i hope he's happy!

and now i'll quit badgering you with come-backs to your nice replies. :)

I saw those ... I was more excited by Lois being the one to be a major part in finding Kara. That's the Lois fan in me cheering.

"But make no mistake, whatever revelations Clark comes to after this whole thing, I certainly hope its not him taking on the blame for what, and who, Lex is."

I *really* hope it doesn't come to that. Clark tends to take the blame for everything and I do love his natural empathy but I just want to say "it's not your fault!"

Should be a good episode.

I can understand Lois/Clois fans being excited by those spoilers. Its been quite a Clois drought. And I don't think the show has served Lois very well this season, so far. So, Yay! for you guys. :)

And I'd like Clark to find a happy halfway point where he can acknowledge his mistakes and faults, but still allow others agency over their own actions. He'll need that when he's Supes. :)

Just when you think you're on your way out, they pull you back in, don't they? :) Toss in Lois apparently finally looking competent and the return of Kara, who I'm liking so far, this about makes Fracture my "most anticipated" of the episodes we have left.

And remember that you were just saying that you were intrigued by this ep because we had almost no spoilers? Well, there ya go! LOL

My feelings are very mixed on Kara. She's been OK. Better then I expected. But I really don't believe the show needs more side distractions, and she sort of is one. But I give props to LV for how she's played her, and I certainly have been totally impressed with the LV/TW chemistry.

Maybe I'm on to something. Here, let me try again:

You know, Veritas has really piqued my interest because I mean, we know next to nothing about the real time story.

:D

Kara, yeah, I know she's not necessary, but I think given the fact they seemed so dead set on bringing her in, even last January when Al and Miles first indicated they were interested in her, they've incorporated her really well. Putting her with Lex, now, will be a good twist, I think.

There ya go, working your mojo on Veritas.

Me? I'm not saying nuthin' I'll just jinx it.

I do agree with you on Kara. And I'll have to see where they go with the Lex/Kara stuff. I'm not sure how I feel about that, because I really wish some things were unique to Clark. Like Lex being fascinated with him due to a miraculous rescue, etc. I'm not crazy about them copying the story to a degree with Kara.

Well, I think with Kara they've made it clear that it's more of an extension of his interest in Clark, as articulated by Lionel in Wrath, was it? Lex knows the chance to get anything out of Clark willingly has passed, so he turns his focus to Kara, who is still susceptible to manipulation since she's just arrived. Were it not for that line by Lionel, who threw in Lex's interest in Lana as part of the larger Clark obsession as well, I'd be concerned as well, but I do think that's how they're going to play it off.

Oh,I agree with you. But its a fine line, and I hope they are able to remain on the right side of it, so to speak. We've only had a teeny bit of Kara/Lex, and I agree its been done right. So, I hope that continues.

OK I've been trying to stay away from the spoilers myself, but since I've noticed you've been down on most of them lately, well I just couldn't resist this one in particular. It must have been a really good spoiler to get you all excited about Smallville. :p

Anyway, it's definitely a great spoiler, and I hope it plays out that way. I really like the way they're following up the themes of Nemesis here.

But Clark doesn't know the ending, so him holding out a glimmer of hope is just a plus for his character.

I remember someone saying something about there's nothing epic about Clark and Lex hating each other. I fully agree, simply because I think Clark is incapable of truly hating anyone anyway. :p It would be perfectly in character for Lex to hate Clark, but not vice versa.

That's one of the things I admire about Clark, he knows fine the distinction between hating the things a person does, and the person himself/herself. He hates what Lex has done, not Lex himself. But I'd really like Clark to stop beating himself up about other people's choices though.

I think his Kara fascination is simply an extension of his Clark fascination. For me, it has always been that way, I don't think it lessens its uniqueness for Clark. Lex can say all he wants that he isn't interested in Clark anymore, but I just don't believe that for a second.

Oh man, am I that big a Gloomy Gus that people need to check in and see what might have shaken me out of it LOL ;)

I absolutely LOVED Nemesis, so if this episode plays out even remotely like that (and even better, cuts down substantially on the Lana), I'll be a very happy camper.

I would like to see Clark arrive at a healthier place regarding Lex. Still being totally opposed to what he's doing, but also a place where he lets go of some of his anger and bitterness. Because I don't think those traits really suit Clark. I'm OK with Clark being disappointed in Lex, but he shouldn't hate him.

And I want them to continue to reenforce that the Kara fascination is all part and parcel of the Clark fascination. As long as they keep thread active, I'll be A-OK with it. :)

That's what worries me about the spoiler. I can't stand the "poor Lex is a misunderstood victim and Clark should take the blame for what he becomes" concept.

I know exactly what you are saying.

I will never believe that Clark SHOULD take the blame for Lex. But I can't find myself getting too upset if Clark still wishes he could have done more, or better, in regards to Lex. Again, Lex's actions are not his fault, and I don't actually believe that there was anything Clark could've done. But I like the idea that he'd never lose all hope entirely. To me, thats just a positive aspect of Clark's character, and part of what makes him so special.

But yeah, I'll never be on board with the whole mindset that Lex would be different if only Clark had done...whatever.

I'm sooo glad about those spoilers.....One of the things that frustrated me about the direction they took Clark in, is he suddenly came out with line that implied, he hated Lex, and I was like "Wha....?!" That's not my Superman. As people above have said there's a difference between hating what someone does, and hating that person. I can live with him hating what Lex does sure, but hating Lex himself? Uh-huh, The Superman story is a story of hope for us as normal humans, who look up to him, but also for Lex, who still has that chance of redemption, All of this is my long-winded way of saying "I agree" hee

Right, I agree. I don't want Clark to hate Lex either. Now, I don't totally mind Clark being occasionally pissy with Lex. He's got good reason to be. But I prefer the compassionate side of Clark. As long as he tempers that with good judgement.
