Screentime Totals for Cure

Just a few quick observations before posting the totals:

-  One of the things I really liked about this episode was how there were all these opposing forces working on Clark. and watching how he dealt with them.  There's the most obvious one, which is Martian Manhunter and Kara.  The more sneaky one in Lex and Lana.  And then the very subtle one which is searching for the crystal, or helping a good friend.  And then there's the heavy foreshadowing of his future in Knox's speech about watching everyone he loves dying.  So, I very much enjoyed the Clark stuff this week

-  Dean Cain was awesome.  And he looks great.  And he has a magnificent ass.

-  Phil Morris rocks my world as Martian Manhunter.  He's all bad ass with his purple leather jacket

-  But with everything I like about this episode, I just can't quite make the emotional connection to it because 1. I'm not invested in the whole meteor infected Chloe storyline, and 2. I have no investment whatsoever in the Chloe/Jimmy relationship.  So, I felt some detachment from the episode, even though I enjoyed it.

-  Jimmy and Kara have chemistry

-  I actually find sneaky Lana more interesting then regular Lana.  But at the same time, it aggravates me that she spent so many years pissing and moaning at Clark about secrets, and now here she's got what she wanted from him, and she turns around and lies in his face.  It just chaps my butt.

Cure, running time 41m, 8s

Clark 14m, 53s
Lex 6m, 35s
Lana 6m, 37s
Chloe 16m, 38s
Kara 6m, 32s
Jimmy 10m, 56s

Season totals to date (number of eps)

Lex 30m, 3s (4)
Lana 20m, 30s (4)
Chloe 42m, 54s (4)
Lois 16m, 50s (2)

Thanks for posting this interesting info!

I don't really care about the Chloe/Jimmy relationship. In fact there was too much Jimmy in this episode, to me. The final scene between Chloe and Jimmy was far TOO long, IMO.

Yeah, its weird. Because I do think AA is right for the role, and doing a good job. But I Just. Don't. Care. His whole cute/dorky thing just doesn't interest me, and I don't know why Chloe or Kara would have the slightest bit of interest in him.

Word. Just about every review I read said how awesome they thought Lana was and general squeeage for the direction the character is making. While this sneaky/devious Lana is certainly more interesting, she still pisses me off for just the reason you stated. The only way I'll get on board with this Lana is if she is held accountable, but I'm not holding my breath. I want Clark to call her on how much of a hypocrit she is because while Clark lies all the time, he does so to protect himself and his loved ones. What is her purpose? Because I can't conceive how stealing 10 million of Lex's money and having a secret room to spy on him is protecting anyone...especially if she's taking such pains to make sure that Clark remains on her side and not Lex's...ooh, there should be a "Lex/Lana smackdown over Clark" fic...

Thats one of my problems exactly....Lana got to tear into Clark on a fairly regular basis over his secret keeping. Will Clark ever get the same consideration when it comes to Lana? Ya know, I totally doubt it, and that just makes Clark look stupid and blind. And I HATE that!

I can't quite jump on board the whole "Lana is the Awesome!" because I know Lana is going to be whitewashed and/or skate on everything she does. It sort of makes it hard to enjoy bad, sneaky Lana for me.

Thanks for these! Chloe's got lots of ST, but I have a feeling everyone will catch up in the next few episodes :/

I suspect so, though we still have no spoilers about Lex-centric eps. I do expect Lana to make some leaps in Wrath, and Kara to get mega time in Lara.

And I like it that J'onn's not completely squeaky clean. He's got layers to him ("don't ask, don't tell," holding Kara partly responsible for her father's behavior), and that makes him interesting. And I love it that he doesn't downplay Clark's Earth attachments the way Kara does.

ITA. And I think it comes across differently, as here is a mature adult. A man thats lived a long time, and has come to the way he does things for a reason. It isn't jarring that Clark isn't bickering with him. He's a very authoritative figure, who also manages to respect Clark. I really like the dynamic.

But her behavior is being deliberately framed as shady -- she wouldn't be keeping it from Clark if it was supposedly above-board -- and I think that's to some actual end; I don't think she's going to completely skate for it.

I really hope you are right. But this show has gone to some lengths in the part to absolve Lana. Its my biggest beef with the character. I truly don't have an issue with where they are taking her, I'm just afraid of the side effects and the end result.

Don't think i am crazy for thinking this, but.....but i'm staring to have faith in the producers when they say this season is about Clark's final steps to become superman. Shocking isn't it?
As for Lana....I think the fact that Clark will see her in a different light in "Wrath" points to the fact that all of her secrets and lying will come back to bite her in the butt.

I don't think you're crazy :) And I think for me, the reason that its easy to have faith, or at least see the potential, is that its most definitely there in the way TW is playing Clark. You can just see that it wouldn't take much to see the inner Superman emerge.

I'll be very surprised if there is a day of reckoning for Lana. Pleased, but very surprised.

I really liked this ep. And ITA with you on the Clark stuff. It's actually really nice to see that the writers are delving a little more into his inner thought process this season. I wrote more on it at TWOP little while back, but I found it interesting that even by the end of the ep, Clark was still unable to really choose any clear in whom to believe - both in the MM/Kara case, and in the Lex/Lna case.

About Lana, well, I'm not even going to get into whether or not her actions wrt Lex are justified, because a case can certainly be made for her being justified, IMO. But I guess I just need the show to now actualize this buildup, wrt Lana and her hypocrisy in the whole secrets and lies shpiel. I need to see it acknowledged that the character is going down a somewhat murky path right now, and when the time comes, I want Clark to continue raising the doubts and asking the questions that he seems to be doing at the moment. Basically, in the event of an eventual Clana breakup, I dont want to have to see Clark saddled with the chunk of the blame as he mostly has been in the past, when it is Lana now, who is actively choosing to live a double life and keep it from Clark. Ideally, this needs to lead to a mutual realization of incompatbility, especially concerning some very core, base concerns and viewpoints.

On the Clark front, I've been pleased so far, but I still do wish they would allow him to verbalize more. Particularly in the scenes with MM and Kara. He seemed to be weighing his response, but I would've love for him to say he wasn't picking ANY sides at the moment.

Really, the whole thing with Lana and what she's doing has the potential to be excellent. But will they take this where it should go, or will they blame everyone and the kitchen sink while absolving Lana? I can only go by what they've done in the past, so I'm skeptical.

Oh, ya, absolutely. I mean, I'm hopeful, but definitely still skeptical as well. 'Tis the Goughlar we speak of, after all. Heh. But I suppose it's nevertheless still refreshing to get to see these moments of insight into Clark, him actually questioning Lana atleast, and a somewhat different spin on Lana/Clana dynamic. We can enjoy it while it lasts, eh? Because next time you know it, Clark will be readying himself for that good 'ol lobotomy yet again! ::sighs::

But the set up is interesting, so I guess, ya, hope.

And btw, I can stare at your gorgeous TW!TheFog icons all day. Yum-my.

Of course you can *grins*

Here's one more for you.

Oh, and thanks for continuing to do these time tallies. :-)

My pleasure! Besides, I'm addicted now. One day I'm going to go back and do all the seasons.
