Hey all!

So, after taking your pulse, it definitely seemed like doing "Best and Worst Moment" was more popular then venting.  So, it comes down to 2 types of "Best and Worst Moments".   We can do it from a performance standpoint for the actors, and we can do it as moments and actions for the characters.  I think both are interesting, and both can stay constructive and fair.  Maybe we can kick that off on Monday?

I'm not sure if everyone has heard about the Souders/Peterson Facebook incident, where they apparently deleted some posts (mine!), and unfriended some people who has expressed some dissatisfaction and misgivings about spoilers.  In fact, they defriended some people whose major crime was to "like" a comment of that nature.  And then they post about how they want to remind people that they welcome all feedback (Bullshit!), but that being such "down-to-earth" people, they require people do it respectfully.  Which, Hey, I agree with that.  The issue seems to be what they consider "respectfully" (I think it requires copious amounts of kissing their ass, and perhaps throwing in how much you like a 'ship or two).  How did people who click the "like" button disrespect them?  As for my deleted comments, I thought they were fine.  Other people who read them thought they were fine (it was the most "liked" of all the comments they received).  But hey, if they thought I was too forceful or blunt, I can live with that.  I am both of those things, and I admit it.  I'm not much for the fawning stuff.  But I feel really bad for the other people, most especially people who got defriended for "liking" a comment.  Thats nuts (and sort of flies in the face of that whole claim about welcoming comments).  For the record, my 2 comments were 1. Saying I was glad that Laura V was coming back, but I hoped they woudn't write Kara at Clark's expense, and I feared this might not be the case, and 2. Wondering why their enthusiastic post about all the cool things happening on the show so far included much gushing about guest stars, and not one mention of Clark.  Which was sort of a recurring theme with them.  Neither of my comments included any derogatory names, or expressed anything negative towards any SV character, actor, ship or fandom.  Was it direct?  Definitely.  Rude?  Not hardly.  Worthy of deletion?  Only if you are a sensitive snowflake who gets overly butthurt when someone might be striking a nerve.

So, OK, there was all that drama, which didn't bother me personally too much, because I've always thought Souders/Peterson were sort of marginally talented  middle management who ended up running the show because they were the last ones standing, so to speak.  But then, today, I noticed that many people were tweeting to this "chico6" person, who is the CW publicist, about the lack of any publicity for SV's last season, while other CW shows seem to get getting promos and such.  So, I checked it out, and though I'd throw in my question about that too.

Here's what I wrote:
"SV is in its last season. Shouldnt we see some fanfare 4 that? Some publicity push? Something spcial?"

To which this Chico6 person responsed:
"Smallville premieres much later so you wont see promos until closer to premiere. its more than a month away vs the other shows. "

And I wrote back:
" So that means that when the SV premiere does come closer, we are actually going to see a publicity push? "

"Oh, BTW, thank you for replying about SV. I appreciate that a lot. "

And she writes this:
" Have to say Bad Toad you are kind of living up to your name right now"

Umm, folks, I just posted everything I wrote to her.  Hand to God.  Is it me, and I'm just not seeing how vitriolic and inflammatory my comment was?

Or, it is possible that Chico6 has got a WEE bit too much time on her hands, and was reading some of my other tweets to people, which included some comments about Souders/Peterson?  I have no clue.  But isn't that just freaking odd?

So, anyway, thats my drama for yesterday and today.  Its all so very ridiculous, but I wanted to share that all with you.  Mostly because this is my journal, which means its the place I'm most FREE, FREE, FREE!!!  But also I like to get this stuff on the record fast, to avoid any distortion or 2nd hand accounts.  A tad paranoid, perhaps, but I think its justified.

Anyway, I have just 3 pictures to share today, and since its only 3, I won't put them under a cut

Tommy Fangs!

Butthurt is right! What is in the water lately? Between this nonsense and what WB did to me, TPTB are seriously harshing my squee. :( I think they all need to take a step back and get a little perspective.

If they're going to sign on for all these social networking sites, and the fan interaction that comes with them, they can't be so sensitive about the feedback they get. I know exactly how you express your opinion, and while you don't sugarcoat anything (which is why I love you!), you are always respectful. It was the message they couldn't take, not the way it was delivered.

Gorgeous pics! I can never have enough of them. I love both of those Tommy smiles. Thank you!

I guess forceful is too...forceful. Or something. I don't know. But it seems to me with all the ass kissing they get, a little balance shouldn't be a bad thing. God knows they fawning outnumbers any sort of complaint 10 to 1. I guess thats still not enough?

Bottom line, if you don't want feedback unless its all positive, don't ask for it. Problem solved.

I still have more pics, and I've fallen behind on posting the SPN ones. But I am getting closer to the end of them.

That's just dumb. Whatever people. I'm positive they hear worse things all the time. You were actually quite nice. I would have been like "Hey can you guys like focus the show on Clark and no one else because it is about umm you know Clark. BTW Green Arrow and Chloe being together Sucks!" Cause I'm really mature like that.
Aug. 14th, 2010 04:04 am (UTC)
I guess their very sensitive snowflake ears and eyes are too delicate for that. Or something. Who knows? But I think I'll just stay out it, since I'm apparently such a menace. One less person speaking up for Clark...I'm sure they'll be thrilled.

Those last 2 pics made up for your hideous day!!!

A little touchy those people, huh?

I'm sorry that happened to you because you sure are NOT the enemy here. I'm getting a sense from other sources as well that the CW publicity people are strung a little tight with their control issues.

What Souders/Peterson wanted to say on FB is that they want responses from people as long as they are the responses they are looking for. whatever.

The SV publicity chick has a reputation for being a little nuts, doesn't she??

Aug. 14th, 2010 03:03 pm (UTC)
Any Tom picture makes up for a bad day!

I guess I am the enemy because I'm not much for the sugarcoating. So, I suppose that means My Bad!

I've just decided that I have nothing more to say to them. Any of them. Apparently I can't be trusted to inject enough fluff into my comments. So be it.

I'm OK with it being me, because, Hello! I'm me! And I'm not very nice. But I do feel really bad for some other people who really didn't do anything wrong, and are really big supporters and fans of the show. Maybe I deserved it, but they sure didn't!

PM me and let me know what you wrote to them. I'm curious :)

I'm just not someone that can do the fawning. I can say thanks, job well done. But I guess I don't understand all the butt kissing for them doing the job they are getting paid to do. I mean, they're supposed to be writing a decent show, right? Do they need extra presents for doing that?

People follow/unfollow me on twitter all the time. I don't pay much attention.

"overly sensitive snowflakes": I love this! lol! Don't ever change Val! I agree with everything! Well, I always said that BP/KS especially BP, are wusses. And yes, they're showrunners because of their seniority. But really. Those people and the writers get spammed and they don't budge but when they read an actual well-thought post coming from a huge fan, they over react. They should welcome the attention they get this year, because as they said at the panel, this will be the best gig they ever get. Next year, all those people will be very much alone, they don't have to worry about that! I completely agree with Tariel that they should get a little perspective.
Do you remember that that chico girl snapped at Brianna because she dared to ask for spoilers about Clark "the star of the show"? Chico said "I know Clark is the star of the show" and then stopped talking about sv for months.
I was de-friended by Andreas because I asked "What about Clark?" in a comment.
I'm tellin' ya, asking about Clark is a risky business.
I guess they think Clark fans don't need to be wooed, so they focus on the other fans. I think it's a mistake. I know fans who just stopped watching because Clark's story was going nowhere (hello, S7!). They HAVE to know that most fans care about Clark; they should at least have learned that from comic cons.
Aug. 14th, 2010 02:20 pm (UTC)
Oh, forgot: those 2 Tom pics! Wow!
Aug. 14th, 2010 03:11 pm (UTC)
I think I'm too set in my ways to change. But I'm just going to shoulder the responsibility here, and just accept that my way of expressing a point is unwelcome to some. So, OK then.

Ah, yes, I do remember her snapping at poor Bri. Now, someone tell me that she's some overly abrasive poster, and I'll call some major bullshit.

I certainly have had my moments where I thought it would be better to just stop watching. If Tom had moved onto to other projects in front of the camera during his hiatus, I just might have. As it is, I'm still not entirely convinced that this isn't the last chance I'll get to watch Tom Welling act.

Yikes, I've heard some hints that something happened on FB, but had no idea what. That's awfully over-sensitive of them, innit?

Those pictures = ♥!
Aug. 14th, 2010 03:13 pm (UTC)
Well, like I said, I'm fine with it being me. If you put it out there, then don't be afraid of getting it cut off, and that includes me. But some of the other folks? They totally did NOTHING to deserve that. Its them I feel for, really.

I have to finish up and post the rest of the pictures. 3 weeks have gone by, and I still have SV pics I haven't posted.
Aug. 14th, 2010 04:48 pm (UTC)
Wow over sensitive much? If they didn't want fans to ask questions which conflict with their agenda then they shouldn't set up a profile on FB simple as that.

*gazes at lovely Tom. Feels rage disappearing*
Aug. 14th, 2010 10:36 pm (UTC)
I've always been of the opinion that if you don't want to hear anything negative, then maybe the internet isn't the place you want to be. But thats me...

Tom makes it all better, doesn't he?
Aug. 14th, 2010 06:09 pm (UTC)
Val, don't you ever change! Those two, BP and KS, don't deserve to interact with clever, honest people like you. They are just two mediocre writers and producers who were lucky to get a gig that's too big for them to handle. And sadly they don't seem to fare better as human beings: people that ask for all kind of feedback and then delete polite comments because they don't chant their (inexistent) virtues are hypocrites and cowards. I can't wait for SV to end so I don't have to care about what those two do or say anymore.
*Applauds you*

Ya know what it is? *looks around conspiratorially* It's these Canadians! They're so polite that they don't understand our American forthright directness!

Or, the mighty creators are just kind of A-holes.

Or or, they've just been pestered by so many SV fans lately that even a nice comment on the subject is starting to piss them off. Which I would lean more toward in the second case. The CW guy, since SV isn't his main job and I have seen everyone I know tweeting about more promotion for the final season (and yes, I agree, we should have more).
Aug. 14th, 2010 10:44 pm (UTC)
Damn Canadians! LOL

Of course, Souders/Peterson are based out of LA, so I don't think they can use that excuse.

I guess my biggest surprise about the chico6 thing was that she had been getting tweets all over the place from other people, some much more foreceful then mine. So, I don't know why I got singled out, unless she knows me from something else. Which is a possibility, I guess.

Yay, Tommy fangs! I want to fluff up his hair even more.

KS/BP behaviour is so very bizarre...you & Graham are two of the very most loyal fans, who keep the show being talked about. How can asking for some dish on Clark be considered a negative? It's not like the show has viewers to spare, that they can cast off fans this way. They should be seizing every possible opportunity to issue little Clark-teasers.

I bet the twitter lady felt like an ass for being mean to you right after you thanked her for info. Hope she did!
Aug. 14th, 2010 10:45 pm (UTC)
Apparently KS/BP also defriended a few Clois fans who also asked about Clark, which is even more bizarre to me. Like I said, me I get. But some of the others? Totally didn't deserve it.

Oh, I doubt chico6 ever recognizes her ass-y behavior. She strikes me as that type of person.
Aug. 14th, 2010 10:10 pm (UTC)
wow! you didn't even post anything bad! I would ask those questions! Smallville really does need more publicity, they have always seemed to lack that! Sorry to hear that your posts were deleted.

Thanks for the pics too!!

I also doubt that its even them that are controlling their facebook stuff, they probably have someone just for that.
Aug. 14th, 2010 10:47 pm (UTC)
I didn't think I posted anything bad, but I guess I did. I guess thats how it could be interpreted. Thats what I've been told.

Whether its them, or their staff, I think responsibility ultimately falls on them for how their FB site is run.

And you are welcome for the pics. I'm glad everyone is enjoying them.
Aug. 15th, 2010 12:41 am (UTC)
I saw through bits and pieces on Twitter, what happened with K & B on FB. It's crazy! If they don't want anything negative or constructive said to them, they shouldn't act like they do.

Last year, I think it was Chico06 who was posting promo pics for Season 9. I think it was after seeing pictures of Lois, Chloe, & possibly even Metallo, that I tweeted her and asked about pics of Clark. Then I said something in attempt to be funny/clever about not forgetting Clark, "you know, the star of the show?" or something like that. She wrote me back with something like, "I know who Clark is."

Supposedly, I wrote my comment to her in the midst of her getting blasted with Chloe vs. Lois comments or something, but I didn't think I said anything so terrible. Like Tariel and others have said, if you're going to put yourself out there with the fans and the public, you need to grow a thick skin!
Aug. 15th, 2010 02:28 pm (UTC)
I do remember your run-in with her, and I have never cared for her. Never. But in this case, I just thought her comment was so bizarre. If she thought I was being sarcastic about the alledged publicity to come, then just say "Yes, its really coming". Or, is it possible that there really isn't much coming down the road, and she knows she's going to catch shit over it?

Well, whatever. I don't follow her, I think this is all of the 2nd time I have posted to her. If she can't be nice to people like you, who are super nice, then I'm sure my more abrasive style would cause her to wilt like a flower.
Aug. 15th, 2010 02:24 am (UTC)
Oh man, I'm so glad I never bothered to friend these *$5#$&. It's sad that they spend so much time hyping crap that I could care less about and totally forget about the raison d'être of the show - you know, the tall guy with dark hair and amazing abilities. What are your plans for HIM. Everything else exists to set that up. Dummies.
Aug. 15th, 2010 02:33 pm (UTC)
The thing for me is that I don't need specific spoilers about Clark. I never have. But there's this distinct lack of mentioning him from TPTB that just rubs me the wrong way. How often has anyone seen KS/BP talk about how much they love Clark in the way they would say We Love Chloe, for instance? Hyping guest stars is great, but what do they mean for Clark? I have yet to hear ONE thing that connects the Chlollie story to Clark in any way.

This idea that they can't speak of Clark because they are keeping his storyline under wraps (uh, why?), or because we should just assume they are enthusiasc about him because he's the main character has always struck me as totally bizarre.

Britas15. *teeth gritted, fists clenched, ready to rumble*
Do you need someone to block bullshit off of you?! Because I will totally be that person! I will get a twitter account, and actually use my Facebook account, and make the criticisms that those jerks have discouraged you from continuing to make!

Yours is one of the few opinions that I seek out and value, precisely because it's so evenhanded and well-articulated. So you can probably imagine how pissed the hell off I am to have found out that you've been catching so much unjustified, knee-jerk crap lately.

And I'll just reiterate what you said in your journal: The PTB (and I'm including Al Septien, who's had some overly-sensitive moments of his own) get way, way more ass-kissy feedback than they do legitimate criticisms. And if they can't handle the tiny percentage of people who point out the (many) shortcomings in their actual narratives, and ask for tighter storytelling and more substantive focus on the fucking protagonist, then WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY DOING ON THE INTERNET?! Like you said, if they can't handle it, then they shouldn't engage it. And if they're gonna engage it, they shouldn't hide behind nonsense about them being humble people, which I guess means that they're too sensitive to hear anything other than fanfare and praise for their middling efforts (in terms of focusing on and affirming Clark) and their sub-par executions (in terms of their too-often shitty writing!).

My only consolation is the hope that Sounders and Peterson simply fade away when "Smallville" goes off the air.

So, anywho, you just let me know what role you want me to have in this, and I'm totally there! Because, as I'm sure you well know, I'm like a pit bull on a pant leg when I get going.

Re: Britas15. *teeth gritted, fists clenched, ready to rumble*
You're going to make me cry. *hugs you*

You don't need to do anything. Though I appreciate that you would. And boy, would I love them to get some Britas straight talk. Like you seek out my comments, I do the same to yours. Not that we always agree, but that I think we share the same sort of approach to the show. Which is loving the characters, but not being afraid of pointing out the shortcomings in the writing, and not just pretending that things didn't happen because they are uncomfortable for our favorite characters.

Al has been on my bad list since his recent comments about Supergirl/Kara. But, I'll give him this...he has stood in there, and dealt with the onslaught, and the spamming, and generally conducts himself in a way I can respect. He doesn't pull the special snowflake routine, and run away from twitter, or block people who might not be fluffing his pillows.

"we are such down-to-earth people"? What the hell does that even freaking mean, and what does it have to do with critical comments on facebook?

I don't see big things in Souders/Peterson's future. I think they'll keep writing for tv, but I think this is probably the biggest thing they'll ever do. I know I wouldn't follow anything else they did. And I'm done having anything to say to them now.
