Smallville's Last Season

I'm sure we've all heard by now that season 10 will be Smallville's last.  Our own Mr Welling spilled the beans, and the CW and other media outlets were quick to confirm it.  It makes me giddy that we first heard this information from Tom himself.  That just seems to fitting to me.

So, I guess I'm asking the obvious question....Knowing that this is the last season, what is it that you really, really want/need to see in S10?  Is there one thing?  Are their 10 things?

And expanding on that, what characters do you absolutely NEED to guest star in S10?  And what guest stars would you just like to see in SV's last hurrah?

And I leave this post with this picture from the recent book signing.  I was so busy staring at Gorgeous Tom, I didn't even stop to look at the cover of the book.  My Tom is such a sentimental guy. ;)

I couldn't help myself. ;)

I love your list!

Truth be told, at this point, I could live without more Martian Manhunter. On the condition there Martian Manhunter does continue to show up from time to time.

I definitely want one more face-to-face encounter between Clark and Lex. Thats #1 on my wish list.

OH, V.

What??!! *bats eyelashes innocently*

I'm not even sad at all that this show is now confirmed of its ending. "Salvation" is the perfect segue, into what I'm hoping a perfect last season. The cast & crew have deserved it, the fans deserve it and the Superman story itself have deserved it.

I'm not picky about how they want to do S10 at all, just keep Clark front and center like they did in "Salvation", and keep his supporting cast as actually supporting. No more takebacks or secrets and lies with Clark & Lois. I'm so over that.

I want Cassidy to return, although I know I have to expect it would have to expect it wouldn't be Tess at all. And I'd love, love, love to see all the Super family back for one last time as well -- Kara, Jonathan, Martha, Kandor Jor-El and Lara.

I'm not sad either. I think its time. I'm excited to know that there's no more reason to stall. They've got 22 eps to bring this puppy home. I love the structure in that.

I find myself really wanting to see Kara again on the show. And I don't remember even liking her so much when she was on. But I missed her, and I really like Tom and Laura together. Knowing that she ADORES him doesn't hurt.

Love the book cover, by the way. ;)

Oh, its just something I whipped up. ;)

LOL! I LOVE that book cover!! ♥

My wish list? Honestly, I haven't really thought about this too much, so this is totally off the top of my head:

1) Lots and lots of Clark. Strong, smart, noble, kind Clark. I want the episodes to revolve around him, and give us his POV. Like Salvation did.
2) Flight. And ONLY from Clark! I've had enough of other characters flying!
3) Lois knows. No taking that back! And more kisses like the one in Salvation!
4) More reporter story lines.
5) Cassidy Freeman back for sure.
6) Perry back as much as possible. And Martha can come, too. :)
7) Lex for the (two hour) finale at least.
8) More Emil!
9) Maggie Sawyer
10) More shirtless scenes for Clark (I had to throw in one shallow one).
May. 20th, 2010 02:12 am (UTC)
When I saw the pics of him holding that book up, I just knew I had to play with them.

#1 is absolutely the MOST IMPORTANT THING!

Taking back Lois' knowledge of Clark's true identity would go a long way to undoing all the great stuff they did in the finale, and I'm not even kidding about that. No backsies!

Lex for the finale! Absolutely. I hope they can work it out with Michael.

I adore Emil. I was sorry that he didn't appear in any of the later eps. I hope he's back next season.
May. 20th, 2010 02:08 am (UTC)
I'm definitely picking that book up. LOL
May. 20th, 2010 02:12 am (UTC)
I haven't read it yet, but I heard its very naughty! :p
May. 20th, 2010 02:38 am (UTC)

What makes you so friggin special?

He spent just as much time with me as he did with you. Even more, because I met Mr. Welling in Freaks and Geeks when he was a mere Frat boy. I take heart that that book looks pretty slim to me.

It's not all about you. NO.

  • The suit, the flight, the spit curl, and the sun in Metropolis must all be seen and savored.

  • The Luthors must rear their cobra heads ready to strike.

  • Jor El must beg Forgiveness and Defer to Clark's better judgement.

  • There must be a whole episode devoted to every shirtless scene that Clark has ever done. And Ollie can introduce it and narrate it, shirtless.

  • There must be first time sex in the sky with Lois and not just elevator foreplay.

  • There must be an announcement of a new series that Mr. Welling stars in, where he gives the shirt off his back to worthy fan gurls people, every week.

  • And there must be a Smallville Wake that lasts the whole last half of the last season.

    Now, don't be a Hater. :p

(God, I loved Adams on Deadwood!)

And I will have you know that me and my sister rented every ep of Freaks and Geeks, all so we could see Tom's 30 seconds, and listen to the commentary from Judd Apatow.

I'm sort of hoping that Oliver gets this terrible skin rash in S10 that requires him to wear baggy sweatshirts all the time. ;)

I want the first Clois sex scene to be in a unique location, but I'm not sure I want flying sex.

I will bring the booze to the Smallville Wake. Lets do this up, Irish Style!
    May. 20th, 2010 02:46 am (UTC)
That book SIZZLED! I loved it so much I had a copy bronzed and framed!
What a writer, huh? He really paints a picture. I mean, my scene especially! I didn't think he'd put in the sexy sex sex I had with him but he totally did!

Anyway, I guess that I want what everyone else wants from Season 10.

    1. Clark. Loads of him.
    2. Good characterization on everyones part, especially Lois'. Sometimes, for the sake of story, the writers completely screw with characterization and there is NOTHING I despise more.
    3. The sweet release of Chloe's death
    4. Kara back. Cause I loved her. Don't judge me.
    5. Clark flying.....obviously.
    6. WAY less Ollie
    7. Most importantly, HAPPY CLOIS! Happy, right Clois. Not Clois that is backseated for a stupid characterization or a useless FWB 'relationship'.

Oh, and also I want Chloe to die. Deadsys, I NEED that to happen. Or for her to just leave and never come back.

Also, I believe you owe me a nicely salted hat, dear?

    May. 20th, 2010 02:53 am (UTC)
Wait, What? There's a *You* scene in the book Tom wrote for me?

That cad. That Hot, Sexy, Gorgeous Cad. I'm so over him...and when I saw "over him", I mean I want to hover over him all the time.

Loads of Clark for S10!!!! It must happen.

    I want Kara back too!!!

And less Oliver works so well for me. Just look at the back end of S9? He turned into Chloe's boyfriend, and not much else.

Alas for you, I don't think Chloe will be shuffling off her mortal coil.

Do I owe you a salted hat? Oh yeah, I probably do. Ummm, its in the mail?

Tom looks very content with his wonderful book!

    1) Since there are no casual viewers left, only obsessive fans, I want 22 episodes of tightly plotted arc. No detours into Oliver's man-pain; no waste-of-time "comedy" episodes like "Escape."

    2) Clark at the forefront of every episode. Lots of juicy speeches for Tom. "Salvation" is a good template to follow.

    3) Romantic moments with Lois to occur interspersed with action and reporting, not to take over entire episodes. If Lois doesn't know the secret by the first ep. to have her find out fairly early in the season.

    4) More episodes where Clark and Lois chase down a story.

    5) A decent exit arc for Chloe. Allison got a raw deal on plot this year. My preferred ending for Chloe is for her to take the Legion ring and go into the future.

    6) However, if Allison is only in limited episodes, I don't want her arc to derail the season as the S8 Lana-arc did.

    7) Would like Lana to get a mention and be de-kryptonited (doesn't have to happen onscreen if KK doesn't return.) Would be nice for Clark to get a letter from her, read by KK in voiceover, establishing their life-long friendship in canon.

    8) If Chloe is MIA for part of the time, how about adding another lady to Clark's world? I suggest this lady:

    9) For Clark and Tess to regain their tense (yet hot) relationship of S8. After "Salvation", she deserves a little shot at redemption! No more Tess manhandling next year.

    10) Darkseid is hard to do on a budget...so better to suggest his presence through scary minions like Granny Goodness, then go HUGE for the final episode.

    11) If Michael returns, I want Lex on Clark's side of the Darkseid battle, as in Justice League. I don't want Lex back to play deux ex machina, as he was written in Requiem.

    12) I want the very final scene to be Clark and his mother - Martha giving her baby up to the world. I will WEEP.

    13) And lastly, I want a special edition dvd boxset featuring cast-favourite episodes from all 10 seasons, including behind the scenes footage and commentary from the cast, especially Mr. Reclusive himself.

(Not too demanding, am I? *g*)

I can't wait to read your list. Stupid Work!

I think the book is going to be a bestseller!
    May. 20th, 2010 04:50 am (UTC)
    Hahaha! Great picture.

Oooh the very first post in the comments section has most of the things I want to see in season 10. Last season! Eeeeee!
    May. 20th, 2010 04:38 pm (UTC)
    Thank you :)

I have a feeling most of us want to see the same things.
    May. 20th, 2010 05:28 am (UTC)

You are the luckiest girl alive. Tell me, what is it like having Tom Welling as your soulmate?? Btw, you are my new BFF. ;)

    May. 20th, 2010 04:39 pm (UTC)
Well, you know its hard having to share him with the world. But somehow, I manage. ;)

funny, I think a lot of people want to be my BFF now. LOL
    May. 20th, 2010 06:42 am (UTC)
LOL! He wants the WORLD to know of your epic love!
    May. 20th, 2010 04:40 pm (UTC)
Of course he does. It can no longer be denied. Not even with that minx, Maggie Q, looking him all up and down at the upfronts.
    May. 20th, 2010 08:12 am (UTC)
LOL That book cover is awesome! Would you send a copy to me? I want to learn from your mistakes for when I get my own chance with him, which I'm sure I will. :D

I'm thrilled that Tom himself announced season 10 will be their last! I hope it's a season totally focused on Clark, a pay-off to everything we were waiting for, a season that doesn't waste screentime in storylines or characters that go nowhere but finally does justice to Clark/Superman. And of course Clark has to fly!
    May. 20th, 2010 04:41 pm (UTC)
I can see it now...Tom's next book will be "Multiple Soulmates", My life with Carol too!

I hope S10 is wall-to-wall Clark. *fingers crossed*
    May. 20th, 2010 09:06 am (UTC)
I would never have pegged Tom for a tell all, but I guess the story of your epic love could no longer be denied.

    Things I need:
    - Clark, Clark, Clark!
    - Use Salvation as a template for how to use the supporting cast
    - Allow Clark to express POV
    - Flight
    - More journalism, with attention paid to the process rather than instant solutions
    - Lois to remain in the know (though I think it could be funny if she pretended not to know and Clark got jealous of himself)

    Things I'd like
    - Lex if MR is on board with it for a few episodes to the end. Like many others, I'd love to see him and Clark form an uneasy alliance against Darkseid. that would tie in nicely with the redemption theme the show seems to have adopted
    - Martha and Perry for as many episodes as possible, together or apart
    - Lana mention or cameo, just to demonstrate that Clark still cares for her but has completely moved on
    - Kara mention or cameo - what happened to her? I'd love it if she somehow got trapped by Darkseid when looking for the Kandorians
    - A proper send off for Chloe that doesn't derail the series the way Lana's did in S8
    May. 20th, 2010 04:43 pm (UTC)
He's just so happy, he needs to tell the world!!!

Salvation should totally be the benchmark they use for next season.

I'm hoping for a really good journalism arc for both Clark and Lois. It would be lots of fun if Cat Grant showed up on a recurring basis. I love the idea of Lois having an annoying rival.

I love that Tom really wants Michael, Kristin, Annette and John S all back for next season. Now that he's a full-on producer, I think he's going to be making some calls.
    May. 20th, 2010 09:25 am (UTC)
BRB, off buying that book. ;)

I really don't have any wishes for S10 other than that it focus on Clark and give his entire story a good ending. I don't want it to become the Clark and Lois show, either. I just want them to give as much time to Clark as possible, and for Clois to happen naturally alongside it. Guest stars? I would love to have AM and MR back for the finale, but other than that, I'm not really particular about anyone.
    May. 20th, 2010 04:44 pm (UTC)
I'm sure that book will just fly off the shelves!

I don't want the show to be the Clark and Lois show either. Lois deserves her place as the most prominent person in Clark's life. But its still a show about Clark, first and foremost.
    May. 20th, 2010 12:52 pm (UTC)
LOL, at that book. Now we know why he so cherishes his private time!

I've been giving season ten some thought over the past couple weeks because I was contemplating trying my hand at writing a virtual season. But I realized that there isn't much I feel needs to be done anymore. Clark and Lois work at the Planet. Clark has a dual identity and costume. He's accepted his destiny. Lois knows the secret. The only requirement left is getting him air borne in red and blue.

Truthfully had they traded the cliff hangers for next year for a few extra seconds at the tail end of this year's finale -- Clark to wrestling the blueK knife out, throwing it clear and taking flight -- that would have wrapped the series satisfactorily for me. With Salvation fresh in memory it's just mind-boggling that Doomsday was written as a potential series finale. What the hell were they thinking?

Though the milestones are mostly past us there are some general guidelines I really hope they follow for the last season.

At the top of the list is a functional relationship between Clark and Lois and a seasonal focus on Clark.

Then a quick list of more specific would likes
*A wee Lois appearance. Doesn't need to be the focus of an episode but we've seen bits of every other character's life as a kid or at least prior to their arrival on the show.
*Resolve Chloe's fate. Good or bad, I don't care so much anymore but I would like to know where life takes her.
*Past characters Clark has helped along the way popping back up.

    Things I don't want
*A Lois and Clark wedding. Please, please, please leave it for the future. Getting engaged in the finale or thereabouts? OK I guess.
*Any more fake Lex. It's MR or bust.
*Supporting characters with excessive screen time. If you're not Clark you shouldn't average more than 12 minutes an episode.

I'm sure there are more... these are just of the top of my head.
    May. 20th, 2010 04:48 pm (UTC)
Exactly! Tom needs lots of time to spend on his soulmate, Me!

I would love to read your virtual season. Do you know, me and some friends wrote a virtual last season for the show La Femme Nikita. It totally kicked the ass of the real one!

I would love a Lois flashback ep. And I always wanted a flashback to little Clark. An ep that showed Martha and Jonathan struggling with a tiny, superpowered toddler. Its a good way to get Annette and John S back too.

I don't need a Clois wedding either. But an engagement is fine by me, at the end of the season.

    BIG NO to fake Lex's!!!!!

Awesome picture! Tom looks absolutely GAW-gous (tho the hair's lookin a little erm, fluffy), and I had no idea he's become a writer. Heh.

Although I'll be a lil sad the SV is ending (*melodramatic* it's the end of an era!), 10 seasons is pretty darn good by any count. And it'll be nice to see TPTB finally stop stalling the story and relationships and end things off with a giant flight, as it were. Fingers crossed!
    May. 20th, 2010 04:49 pm (UTC)
He has such fantastic hair. But I bet its a total bitch to work with.

The book was a surprise to me too!! That Tom ;)

10 years is a spectacular run for this show. I think it will continue on in syndication a good long time too.

Well, as long as its not in the sci-fi section!

Alicia!! I'd love to see Sarah Carter again in some way.

I really want Kristin to appear again. I just want better written eps then the ones in S8.
    May. 20th, 2010 03:40 pm (UTC)
The next season looks pretty exciting, seems like they are going out with a bang :0)
    May. 20th, 2010 04:51 pm (UTC)
It does look exciting. I love how much excitement Tom generates by just appearing in public! LOL
    May. 20th, 2010 05:54 pm (UTC)
LMAO @ the book cover! Nice! I'm expecting the sequel to be about me though, you should know--- ;-)

I've been commenting elsewhere about this but I really feel SV ought to fully embrace this being the last season. Give us fans the ultimate swan song. I think a definitive timeline can only mean good things for the show and the characters.

I think at the top of my wishlist is to see MR reprise Lex Luthor, if only just for an ep even - preferably the finale. I'm probably deluded in hoping for it, but damn if I don't still hold out for it. While I loved the Clex scene from 'Arctic' and I think Lex was served quite well in terms of focus in the latter half of his final season, but Clex together are what started it all, and there are so many possibilities with them now, especially that we have more than an inkling as to where their destinies line up.

I don't even want to imagine a scenario where TPTB are dumbfucks enough to take back the Clois reveal - ::shudders:: but I'll still put it out there - No. Lois knows, and please let's keep it this way. Clois are best to a fan such as myself when they're together, strong, and bringing out the best in each other. Minimal angst, please. Let's see the beauty and joy in rediscovery instead.

It's no secret that I've had my share of issues with Chloe' character for some time now, but that they've exacerbated almost irrevocably in these last two seasons. So I'd be lying if I said I'm broken up about Chloe only being around for a limited number of eps. That said, I honestly believe there's a way this can prove to be a good thing, for the show and character. If there's a fixed number of eps, TPTB might actually utilize that in a) repairing to whatever extent they can, the Chlark friendship and start making it real and warm and believable again. Nothing can be the way it used to be but perhaps they can find a new common ground? b) to craft a proper, deserved send-off. AM has earned that and so have her fans. There's a flip side to this though because there's also certain things I don't want to see, which a limited number of eps can sometimes also trigger. Like, excessive focus at the expense of the overall story and main character. I feel Lana' story in 'Power' / 'Requiem' is very much an example of this kind of storytelling. Lex' in the 2nd half of S7 conversely is an example, IMO of how it can, and should be done. There was increased focus on him, but I never once got the feeling that Clark wasn't a part of that story and that they weren't equal partners in their stories.

I'd love to see the League be done right, Val. I can't help it, I'm such a fan that it bothers me how they've botched it up in this incarnation. But I saw a glimpse of potential greatness in 'Salvation.' I want to see that expanded on.

I would love to see Martha and Perry return. Perhaps a 2-3 ep arc, towards the end of the run?

The continued presence of MM and Emil Hamilton - these characters always add to the show.

I'm very happy to see CF back - now just up her ep count already.

I don't think I even need to say what I expect, when it comes to Clark. I have a lot of renewed hope after 'Salvation.'
The writers just need to realize they don't have to go out of their way or pull out any fancy contrivances to write a heroic Clark. Write him a good enough story and just have faith in the character you've created and shaped in to the amazing person he is today that his actions and reactions will speak for themselves. I want the show to respect Clark Kent. 'Salvation' shows us how awesome the cumulative result is when this is achieved.

Finally, I want flight, dammit. I do.
    May. 20th, 2010 11:48 pm (UTC)
I have a feeling that Tom's going to have to write a book series to keep everyone around here happy. LOL

I love the idea that the show has 22 eps to bring it home, then its time to turn out the light and lock the doors. I really hope that translates to a season with a much more clear objective, and storyline.

I love how much Tom wants Lex back. I know 'shipper fans always love to think Tom is a proponent of their 'ship. But I think Tom's heart lies with Clex. Maybe not in a slashy fanfic sort of way. But I think the Clex relationship was the one that most engaged him.

I'm telling you, if they take the reveal to Lois back, I expect the season to start out very ugly. At least for the fans.

Amazingly enough, I can't really find myself caring about what they do with Chloe. But, I do think she'll get a heroic send-off, wherever she ends up.

More JLA stuff would be fine, but only if they do it Salvation-style. The emotional leadership of the JLA lies with Clark. No backsies there either.

I think we'll get flight, but not until the end of the season.
    May. 22nd, 2010 05:11 am (UTC)
The 10th season has to be Clark-centric after the 9th season focused on Lois and the other supporting characters. Here's what I want to see in the 10th season:

    1) Flights
    2) Adding red and blue colors to his black costume
    3) The creation of the iconic suit
    4) The returns of Jonathan, Martha, and Perry White.
    5) Continued leadership of the superhero community
    6) The triangle of Clark, Lois, and Lana
    7) The final epic battle between Clark and Lex
    8) Emil Hamilton replacing Chloe as the new Watchtower
    9) Pairing up Dan Turpin and Maggie Sawyer as Metropolis PD partners
    10) Bringing the real Jimmy Olsen, Ron Troupe, Steve Lombard, and
Cat Grant to the Daily Planet.
    May. 23rd, 2010 01:58 am (UTC)
You have a very iconic list :)

I agree with a lot of it, though I don't think a Lois/Clark/Lana triangle is likely to happen. Nor do I really want one. I'd like Lana back, but more because I'd like healthier closure for Clark and Lana, and I'd like the stage set for them to be eventual friends. As it is now, they can't even be friends.

I don't know much about the iconics staff at the DP, but I think bringing Cat back would be fun for sure.
    May. 25th, 2010 03:37 am (UTC)
So where do I order me a copy of that book?
As for what I would like to see in the final season of SV,

    1) Clark flying, perhaps not in the suit- that's for the last few episodes,I think- but maybe back in the red and blue?

    2) Lois knowing the secret and keeeping it that way! No takebacks Smallville.

    3) Lana coming back cured of her condition, I need to see Clana actually achieve closure, and have it texually acknowledged on screen, that Clark and Lana are in the past and that Lois is *it* for him.

4)The real Jimmy- as much as I hate to say it and as much as i loved AA, we need the real Olsen.

5)Perry returning to the DP and getting into a postition where he can become EIC.

    6) Texual acknowledge by characters(that can't see into the future) on the show that Lex isn't dead. Clark knows he isn't, but the others don't and if we can't get MR back at least we need to know that people know that Lex is still alive.

    7) A decent exit arc for Chloe.

8)Clark's worldview being validated throughout season 10.

    9)Clark being front and centre.

10)a two-hour finale at the very least- if not a continuation of a three 2hr events.
    May. 25th, 2010 01:33 pm (UTC)
I understand the book is currently on backorder. Who knew it would be so popular? ;)

#2 is SUCH a HUGE priority for S10, I think. I can't even imagine how horrible it would be for them to take it back.

Id love to see both Perry and Martha back for a longer arc. I'm thinking 7-9 eps each. That would be awesome.

I hope they close this show out with a 2 hour finale. I can't imagine it going out any other way.
    May. 26th, 2010 06:22 am (UTC)
Aw! I will miss SPN and SV after they both leave! They will always be my thursday night double dose of hero's and weirdness! I am glad season 10 will be the last, it has been around quite awhile but I am glad it finally wrapping it up though! With all of its flaws it kept up the momentum every season like SPN does, I will say though some seasons are better than some.

    Season 10 wishlist!
-More Kara, I loved Kara/Clark relationship in season 8 for that one episode. She was strong, fierce and determined so glad the actress didn't let the producers turn her into another PH wannabe!
-Lex! I miss him, he was my fan favorite right after Clark, even when he pissed me off and I just wanted to hit him repeatedly! Would love to see Lex interact with this mature! aggressive! version of Clark. (On a shallow note, I want to see them like they were in seasons 1-3 and lesser extent season 4 like they just came from making out in the barn, pretending like they hate each other pffft!) They are still my number #1 OTP right behind Clois! I want Lex to be morally grey like he is but show don't place him in the villan role just because, Lex usually has a purpose to what he does right or wrong and I would like to see that again.
-More Clark, and his point of view! Clark is such a refreshing character at times with his morals, actions. I want SV to capitalize on this and not push him to the back for the supporting characters, they aren't the ones who I kept watching for after the pilot show!
-Lois, I want to see more of her journalism skills! More Clois but I want her to continue being her awesome self and keep her informed of Clark's secret. I would love also to see Clois, gelling as a stable couple. They have the chemistry and everything they need, but no more inconsistency.
-Less Chloe, but whatever her final exit is make her have some kind of dignity please show!
-Less Oliver, but more Oliver/Clark semi working together. He is way more tolerable around Tess and Clark.
-More Tess, want to see her reacting with Lex. She is awesome and crazy! I just heart her!
-More Martha, amd the Col for Lois. We need more family scenes it focuses on relationships too much sometimes.
-More Perry, or the other editor that fired Clark and Lois

I think they should bring Kara back, at least for one episode. I think thats a dangling plot thread that they can tie up in a better way.

I would've been happier with the news that JH, like AM, wouldn't be a regular next season, but would be in "several eps". I just don't think he works as a regular. And the Clark/Oliver is just never going to a believable friendship to me.

I think its a certainty that CF is back next season, but what isn't for certain is whether "Tess" is back. I think that could be a really fun storyline for her.

OMG, I totally love this list. This all works for me.

I'd be deleriously happy with 2 eps for Lex, with a few hinting at his presence, but not seeing him on screen. I say 2, because I think I'd like one that deals more with what he's been up to, and letting him deal with Tess. And then the last one being his confrontation with Clark, and setting up the future relationship these 2 will have.

I, of course, wouldn't object to more.

I would really LOVE for KK to come back too. My ideal storyline would be for Lana to come back, and for us to find out that the powers of the supersuit are fading. The suit was a prototype, so no one said that it had to last forever. And with the powers fading so too did the kryptonite infection. I would like Clark and Lana to get the mature, mutual ending they didn't get in S8, and I'd like a believable set-up for the iconic friendship they have.
