Last Minute Smallville Fun

The hiatus is almost over, and come this friday, for better or for worse, we're back to new episodes.  So, here's a suggestion for a little bit of fun in the remaining few days until we have new material to chew on.

We'll call this bit of whimsy "My Favorites".  In your reply, list the following:

  • Your favorite fanmade video for SV (and a link, if possible)
  • Your favorite fanfic, and what the pairing is (also a link, if possible)
  • Your favorite Smallville Promo Picture.  Include the picture in your reply, or a link to it
  • Your favorite official still from a Smallville episode.  Follow the instructions for the promo picture.
  • Your favorite candid shot of a member of the Smallville cast.  Again, same instructions
  • Your favorite Smallville episode from each season.  Just pick one.
  • Your favorite Smallville guest star - villian (pictures are welcome)
  • Your favorite Smallville guest star - good guy (pictures are welcome)
  • Your favorite song used for a SV scene.  If you have a link to it, even better
And for anyone feeling really, really ambitious, I'll throw out this challenge:  Give a Title to an upcoming SV episode, and provide a synopsis for it.  Include any guest stars of your choice. :)

I'll be updating this post with my own contributions later tonight.  Have fun!!

Oh, and there's no requirement that you need to do all of the above.  Do all, do some, do one.

ETA:  And here are my choices:

My favorite fanmade video is a MUST SEE for all Clark fans.  To me, this video is one of the very best at capturing Clark's journey, though its heavier on the early stuff then the later stuff, Ryan (who created it) has been good at keeping it updated.
"23" by Ryan Deffley

My favorite fanfic is Clex, and its Mercy, by Koi.  Warning, its not an easy read, or a pleasant story.  I like reading Clex, maybe because there was no chance of it happening on the show, and so fanfic writers can take it anywhere they want it to go.  And since I found their on screen relationship to be so complex and twisted, I tend to like my Clex fanfic on the twisted and dark side.

Promo Picture:

Favorite Eps:

S1: the Pilot, S2: Lineage, S3:  Exile, S4:  Transference
S5: Vengeance, S6: Nemesis, S7: Descent, S8: Turbulence
S9 (so far):  Rabid

Favorite Guest Star (Villian):  James Marsters as Brainiac

Favorite Guest Star (Good Guy):  Phil Morris as Martian Manhunter

Favorite Use of Song:  "A Message" by Coldplay, in Mortal (a virtual tie between this and "Deeper Water" by Minnie Driver, in Unsafe, but I couldn't find a link to that scene on youtube).

And my SV episode is:

RESTITUTION, written by Al Septien & Turi Meyer, directed by Greg Beeman

Clark is ambushed while on a routine rescue, and wakes up to find himself face-to-face with someone from his past, a very much alive Lex Luthor (guest star, Michael Rosenbaum).  Lois finds herself receiving some unlikely help from nemesis, Tess Mercer, in her ongoing investigation into Intergang, and they're both shocked to discover who is really pulling the strings of the crime syndicate.  Also, Martha Kent (returning regular, Annette O'Toole), bids farewell to Washington DC and returns home to the Kent family farm.  Allison Mack, Michael McKean and Phil Morris also star.

I loved that first vid on your favorites list. That was great! See, thats one of the reasons I asked for links. So I could see the goodies! LOL

Great pics.

And Hey, whats wrong with Noir? I like it. Better then Justice, actually.

Mar. 30th, 2010 01:48 pm (UTC)
Thats OK. Variety is the spice if life.

And similarities are fun too!
Mar. 29th, 2010 09:37 pm (UTC)
I currently have a house full of family for Passover that I'm sort of hiding from. I may have to answer this entry with several replies (or I'll edit this one).

I'm actually not big on fan-made videos, but this is just made of awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4VAeZ33Xhk

I don't know how to embed videos into a reply.

The link is fine, so don't worry about doing an embed.

I've always loved the vid. Its definitely a top ten!
Mar. 29th, 2010 11:39 pm (UTC)
Your favorite fanmade video for SV (and a link, if possible)
-I actually don't watch fanmade vids. I think I've only ever seen, like, three. Just not into them.

Your favorite fanfic, and what the pairing is (also a link, if possible)
-Hmm, that's tough. I read a lot of fanfic. Right now my favorite is: "Past Imperfect", it's Clois and I read it here: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5024923/1/Past_Imperfect

Your favorite Smallville Promo Picture. Include the picture in your reply, or a link to it

Your favorite official still from a Smallville episode. Follow the instructions for the promo picture.

Your favorite candid shot of a member of the Smallville cast. Again, same instructions

Your favorite Smallville episode from each season. Just pick one.
1- Pilot
2- Red
3- Exile
4- Gone
5- Exposed
6- Crimson
7- Apocalypse
8- Bloodline
9- Pandora...or Rabid ugh

Your favorite Smallville guest star - villian (pictures are welcome)
- Callum Blue as Zod

Your favorite Smallville guest star - good guy (pictures are welcome)
Phil Morris as Martian Manhunter

Your favorite song used for a SV scene. If you have a link to it, even better
"I Don't Care", Apocalyptica with Adam Gontier - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxDcWvZCSRg
Mar. 30th, 2010 02:21 am (UTC)
I adore that song choice. I have that song on my iPod, and I listen to it all the time.

Thats a very cute BTS shot of Tom and Erica.

Mar. 31st, 2010 02:36 am (UTC)
Right? I LOVE that song. I actually am really into Apocalyptica in general.

Thanks, lol, I love that pic because of it's cuteness.
Mar. 30th, 2010 12:23 am (UTC)
My fav youtube vids are usually just clips from the show and I don't read fanfics. Not really high on promo pics(I usually find then overdone having the actors pose for them, why not just take shots on site and use those as promos)

Your favorite Smallville episode from each season.

1 - Pilot
2 - Heat
3 - Perry
4 - Crusade
5 - Exposed
6 - Combat
7 - Bizarro
8 - Bloodline
9 - Idol

just for the hell of it my Smallville pooplist for each season
1 - Crush *loses by default, some episode has to be the worst*
2 - Calling/Exodus
3 - Exile
4 - Ageless
5 - Reckoning
6 - Promise
7 - Traveler
8 - Power
9 - Pandora

Your favorite Smallville guest star - villian

Hard to say I thought Brainiac was great in himself but I thought the ways they used him at times was terrible. I probably would go with Morgan Edge in Phoenix(as bad as I thought Calling-Exile was I actually liked Phoenix)

Your favorite Smallville guest star - good guy

Your favorite song used for a SV scene.
Fly - Mark Jospeh, Lucy
Mar. 30th, 2010 02:23 am (UTC)
I almost asked for the pooplist, but I decided to try and keep the questions positive. Your pooplist actually contains 3 episodes I love a lot, LOL

Morgan Edge was definitely a great villian, and I love Rutger Hauer. He's be a top 5 villian for me, for sure.
Mar. 30th, 2010 02:50 am (UTC)
I know alot of people love Exile, but I hated the whole premise of it(I hate my life and will do something stupid, not only for 1 episode but 3 months)), the build up to it(ie Jor-El gone wild, why does my life suck angst) and the aftermath of it(Jonathon having heart problems and Clark feeling it was his fault, maybe Clark should have just blamed his father for being to stupid just not to pick up a piece of Green K)

I will guess the other is Traveler, were my biggest beef was the terrible resolution of the Kara amnesia storyline(which in itself was a terrible storyline to begin with but here is an idea Clark is the hero of the show maybe he should be the one to save her) couple with the idiotic Clark needs to be saved because he just spent 3/4 of the episode stuck inside a cage(I probably would be more forgiving if this was the only problem with the episode and give worst S7 episode to Hero or Sleeper but the entire episode just screamed to me that the producers/writers could give a rat's ass about Clark)

As for Villian I definantly though Morgan Edge was well used(once we got past the events of Exile) and he had sort of an epic feel to him(Unlike say many FOTW although Tina Greer always has a special spot in my heart for her undying devotion to all things Lana, it was like Al/Miles spoke through her). When you rule out cast members though it basically comes down to Brainiac or Morgan Edge for me and I just felt Edge was the better used(or included in better storylines) of the 2
Mar. 30th, 2010 01:51 pm (UTC)
I think where you and I differ so much on Traveler is that I thought, regardless of him needing to be rescued, Clark showed such courage and strength and heart. It was one of the situations where I thought a rescue was really warranted, and served the storyline. It wasn't like someone showing up to throw a meteor rock off him. And I love his confrontation with Lionel. I also think Patricia Swan was a great guest star, and I'm so sorry they killed her off. She would've been a good recurring character.
Mar. 30th, 2010 08:07 pm (UTC)
Shouldn't the Patricia Swan thing then be added to the bad list, why create a character only to kill her off :P

As I said above the way this episode resolved Kara getting saved was the big mistake that I hold the episode guilty for. They might have been better off having Clark giving her the bracelet back in Fracture and having her regain them then(but I guess they wouldn't have any angsty "drama" for Hero). The way the producers finished off that storyline was very weak(ie making it an afterthought and not allowing Clark to shine to fix the issue)

As for Clark being saved, I still think the writers could have came up with a logical way of Clark saving himself using his brain although the save is the least of my issues with the episode overall

Re: best. episode title & description. ever. ...
OMG, so LOVE that! I added my own description, and I think you'll definitely see a few similarities in what our dream eps are. In fact, we picked the same writers and director.

Your favorite Smallville Promo Picture. Guess why!

Your favorite candid shot of a member of the Smallville cast.
Xin posted my #1 favourite - silly boys being silly! But I love this one too:

Your favorite Smallville episode from each season.
1 - Hourglass
2 - Heat
3 - Shattered
4 - Transference
5 - Vengeance
6 - Nemesis
7 - Fracture
8 - Bride
9 - Warrior

Your favorite Smallville guest star - villian
Krista Allen as Desiree Atkins, Heat

Your favorite Smallville guest star - good guy
Phil Morris, Martian Manhunter

Your favorite song used for a SV scene.
"Hurt" by Johnny Cash. Shattered

Give a Title to an upcoming SV episode, and provide a synopsis for it.:

Darkseid: In the series finale, Clark has to put aside his reservations and work with Lex Luthor to defeat earth's greatest threat.
Mar. 30th, 2010 02:28 am (UTC)
Hmmm, now why would you pick that first picture? Let me think...LOL

Hey, we had the same choices for S4-S7. Go us!

Hurt was such a great song choice, and really added to that amazing ending of Shattered.

Awww, the boys working together would be great.

Favorite fanmade video for SV: that fabulous Clark vid from Talitha: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTns3tzo8EE&feature=PlayList&p=0ADE3A928AB3A7F9&index=34
Favorite fanfic, and what the pairing is: the pairing is Clex, the writer is Kate. I have several favorites from her but let’s say “Going home” http://mskatej.livejournal.com/166971.html
Favorite Smallville Promo Picture: Err... this is huge.
Favorite official still from a Smallville episode:

favorite candid shot of a member of the Smallville cast:

Favorite Smallville episode from each season.
We have the same choices here:
Favorite Smallville guest star - villian: James Marsters as Brainiac
Favorite Smallville guest star - good guy: Phil Morris as John Jones
Favorite song used for a SV scene: Weapon used in Exodus: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CsD4TTYKdA
I notice a glaring lack of Oliver in "your" episode. LOL. What a shame.
I'll certainly watch your choice of video and read your choice of fanfic.
Mar. 30th, 2010 03:26 am (UTC)
Talitha's vid's are magnificent. I could easily have picked 4 or 5 of hers. She's amazing.

And Kate is a terrific writer. I love her Clex and Clois.

And OMG, I totally love that song. That was a superb use of music. I miss the source music on the show.

I sense a little sarcasm in your Oliver comment, LOL Yeah, I didn't include him. He isn't needed for what I have in mind.

I think you'll really like my choice of video. But heed my warnings on the fanfic. Its brilliant, but not an easy read.
Mar. 30th, 2010 05:26 am (UTC)
I have accepted your challenge!

Come and see.

Oh and which episode is Restitution? Gotta see that.

I really like your choices. The video you picked is awesome and I love the still from the episode Noir. We have some favorite episodes in common, too.

My post is here
Mar. 30th, 2010 01:52 pm (UTC)
Can't wait to see it!
Mar. 30th, 2010 04:04 pm (UTC)
I SO want to do this! Just.. no time this morning. This will take some research, and turning on some dormant brain cells. :)

Love the whole challenge though. You are an awesome SV fan. *nods*
Mar. 30th, 2010 04:42 pm (UTC)
You can always do it when you have the time. I'm dying to know what you come up with.

And thanks. I think a lot of people consider me a bad SV fan because I'm so critical, but I don't think one has to love everything about a show to be a good fan.
Mar. 30th, 2010 08:56 pm (UTC)
This looks fun. :)

Oh, fav vid category is difficult. :/
I'm going with That's Not My Name, Clark vid by talitha78.
The rest of my favourites are bookmarked here.
Love your pick, that's a brilliant vid!

Fav fanfic (this is hard!)...
A Life More Ordinary by Jenn. An oldie, but a goodie. :) Short and I keep going back to reread it every once in a while.

Favorite Smallville guest star - villian. That's easy, Brainiac. He was so deliciously manipulative.
Favorite Smallville guest star - good guy. Umm, I'm not sure, but I do *love* Martian Manhunter, so I'll go with him.

Must go hunt down links for the rest of the answers.
Mar. 30th, 2010 09:04 pm (UTC)
I adore that vid by talitha. She's so brilliant. I just showed that vid to my sister the other day, and she was blown away.

Can't wait to see what else you come up with. :)
Mar. 31st, 2010 06:42 am (UTC)
Okay, finally got this done!

Had fun walking down SV memory lane. Thanks for proposing this!

Okay, I had to change it up a bit to make it work, but it's posted. http://serenography.livejournal.com/183791.html

Mar. 31st, 2010 12:47 pm (UTC)
Oh my, what a great idea! I've posted my favourites here http://jlvsclrk.livejournal.com/33484.html

As for an episode, I'll call it Redemption
All hope seems lost as the battle as Darkseid's invasion plans reach fruition. To make matters worse, an old nemesis returns from the dead. Can Clark and Lex put aside their differences to defeat their common foe?
Mar. 31st, 2010 06:31 pm (UTC)
You had amazing choices!

Your episode looks very much like tasabian's. GMTA!!!
Mar. 31st, 2010 05:45 pm (UTC)
Heh, trust you not to be able to resist coming up with ::something:: during hiatis. ;-)

I don't know about favorite video's - there are a bunch out there I really love, I'd have to look about in order to remember which ones. And fanfic I'm not too big on, though if I get hooked on to a series or something then I have to finish it.

I'm not sure about promo pic, but your pick for favorite still is definitely one of my top picks too. The hotness is juat ridiculously off-the-charts there. As for candid, do you remember those very first director!Tom photos we got? ::swoons::

Favorite eps:
S1: 'Hug.' It just very, very narrowly beats the 'Pilot' and I also adore both 'Hourglass' and 'Jitters.'
S2: 'Rosetta' - inspite of all its issues and problems which I absolutely recognize. But for me, the sheer power and intensity of those Clark/Swann and later Clark/Jonathon moments don't seem to diminish, for whatever reason.
S3: I love 'Perry' and 'Shattered' and 'Memoria', but 'Exile/Phoenix' beats everything.
S4: The first four eps are a ton of fun, and 'Commencement' is exciting, but 'Transference' is in a league of its own.
S5: This is especially tough because the first half is exceptional, particularly 'Hidden.' But oddly enough I always find myself gravitating towards 'Oracle' the most, for some reason.
S6: There's not even a contest here. While there are parts of several eps I like, hell, some I even love - 'Nemesis' is the only ep that I unequivocally adore.
S7: Tough, because I loved the feel and tone of 'Traveler' and 'Apocalypse' is such a fun ride. But 'Descent' and the word has to be used - is epic, IMO.
S8: Despite the trainwreck of the latter half of the season, I think in terms of individual eps, S8 has a lot going for it - 'Odyssey', 'Committed', 'Identity', 'Bloodline', 'Legion', 'Turbulence', 'Hex.' The one that I think I ::enjoyed:: the most was 'Instinct' though. Go figure, but that ep just puts a smile to my face.
S9: 'Rabid.'

Favorite Villain - has to be JM' Brainiac, doesn't it. Guest star otherwise, I adore PM' MM, but I'm feeling oddly noastalgic for LV' Kara these days. Again, go figure!

You can't make me narrow down for favorite song moment - you are eeevil, woman! Heh. But there's one thing that can absolutely be deduced - SV knocks it out of the park with closing montages set to music.

Oh, and your ep description? Is made of win.
Mar. 31st, 2010 06:35 pm (UTC)
For S8, Instinct was very much in the running for my favorite episode. I think its great fun. Ultimately, it came down to Turbulence, Identity and Instinct.

Like you, I've also been feeling nostalgic for Kara. I think its because I like LV so much, and also because it really feels like she should be part of this Kandorian storyline. So, her absence is more pronounced.
Apr. 2nd, 2010 05:14 am (UTC)
not picking on you(although I guess in a way I am) but I never get the outright love for Nemesis, while I liked the episode it still had bad reekings of Clexana sprinkled all over it, which took it down a couple notches from being as good as it could have been. Why couldn't Lex vs Clark be about Lex vs Clark and not Lana. lol
Apr. 2nd, 2010 08:40 am (UTC)
I suppose to each their own, eh? If we all ended up liking the same eps, there'd really be no variety of opinion then. Having said that, I feel I should preface that for me, Clexana as a concept, and most of its execution was one of the most horrible ideas the show has done. However, its handling of it here in 'Nemesis?' I had no issues with. I love the ep because while the Clex conversations in the tunnel began seemingly centred on Lana, they soon evolved in to other angles - angles which I had been wanting to hear their thoughts on for a long time. It was Clex at one of its most fascinating turns - vulnerable, antgonistic, yet ultimately still bound by that unrelenting bond that helped them save each other. And to make matters even more interesting, at certain points it was almost as if Lex knew the secret, and moreover Clark knew it too. I also happen to love the ep because it highlighted, in Clark' reaction to Lex being trapped in the tunnels, vs. everyone elses reactions, how unwavering and strong Clark' moral compass really is. The ep also contains a slightly unhinged Lana, but one whose actions are actually underatandable, even if one doesn't necessarily agree with or condone them. KK, TW, and MR all deliver fantastic performances and the final Clark/Martha scene does a wonderful job of actually allowing Clark to verbalize his thoughts and feelings wrt Lex. Plus, to add to all of this, there are a couple of wordless scenes that are so exquisitely shot (the Clark-recover-from-the-suns-rays and Clana-briefly-reunite-before-Lana-has-to-go-to-Lex) that I can't help but be in awe of them everytime I watch.

So, yeah. This is why 'Nemesis' is so special, for me.
Apr. 2nd, 2010 02:28 pm (UTC)
^ What she said :)

I think its possible to dislike the Clexana triangle very much, but still appreciate an episode where its used effectively. And for me, Nemesis was really about Clex more then anything else. It showed how Lana factored into that relationship, but I think the episode also made a good point of showing how the Clex wasn't really about her.
Apr. 1st, 2010 04:15 am (UTC)
Here via serenography. It's nice to remember all the wonderful things about Smallville now and then. This was fun! :)

Apr. 1st, 2010 03:06 pm (UTC)
Cool. Running over to check it out.
Apr. 1st, 2010 10:32 pm (UTC)
'RESTITUTION' sounds like an awesome episode. Not only would we have MR and AO'T back (yay!) but we'd also get Lois vs Intergang!
It would be so cool to see a smug Lois slapping down an early edition of the Planet on a mayor's or senator's desk, revealing their not so legal activities and questionable acquaintances XD

James Marsters as Brainiac I loved him so hard in Buffy! Yet I can't enjoy him in anything else cause I keep getting distracted by the accent *fails* D:

Exile It was the hair wasn't it? XP He had gorgeous hair in that ep and the shirt ripping! Yum XP
Apr. 1st, 2010 11:01 pm (UTC)
In Exile, its the hair, its the body, its the strut, its the attitude, its the bored way he kisses that girl...its EVERYTHING. LOL

Glad you like my episode. I'm just going to say this...I really do think I could write a better show then the one we have. For reals.
Apr. 3rd, 2010 02:31 am (UTC)
As usual, I'm woefully late to the party, but as I wait for Escape to air in my time zone, it seems the perfect time to finally comment here. :) Another wonderful way to spend the hiatus, you have the best ideas! The vid you recced is amazing. I've seen his work before and been completely blown away, and I'm beyond impressed that he continues to update Clark's journey to incorporate even the most recent episodes. No wonder he's a professional editor! And watching that video is a great way to get pumped for Smallville's return!

All three of your pics are stunners, and among my own favorites. I love everything about that first one: his sexy sprawl, his big, beautiful hands, the unruly hair, the hint of scruff, and the unrelenting heat of his gaze. And I love the pink shirt! :) The second one is just impossibly pretty. And that last, most recent pic was a gift from the heavens, Tom caught in what I'm sure was an unintended genuine smile right at the camera.

Great list of episodes, I love every one of them. When this show does things right, it is truly amazing. And I still can't quite believe Smallville was lucky enough to get James Marsters and Phil Morris. I really wish they would make PM a recurring character for S10.

Both of those songs are wonderful, and used to deepen the emotional impact of important moments for Clark on the show. I think you know how much I miss the songs on this show, and the ones that play at the end of episodes have always resonated with me.

I would kill to see your episode! It sounds so exciting and wonderful! I love the way you describe it, just enough detail to captivate me, without giving anything away. How I wish it were real.

As for my own choices, I think almost all of them have already been highlighted in other comments. My favorite vid is talitha78's That's Not My Name. It's so hard to choose just one promo or still. I love all the pink shirt pics, and the S6 promo pics, but I think my favorite one might turn out to be the one we haven't seen in all its glory yet:

I know it's not as drop-dead sexy as some others, but I can't resist the power of that beautiful smile! I think my favorite still is this one:

I think it's unbelievably sexy, and I love the way it shows off his body, but also because it represents such a big moment for Smallville, the beginning of Tom's freedom from the oppression of Al Gough. And I don't think I'm being overly dramatic when I say that. My favorite candid would probably seem like an odd choice to most:

I just love the exuberance of that moment, the rare unrestrained joy Tom displays. And I like that he's totally himself, and comfortable in his own skin, with no thought to how he "should" look or act. He's just Tom, big and gorgeous and happy, and I adore him so much! I think it's a dream-come-true moment for him, and I so appreciate that we got to share in it. I just wish the pic was bigger than a postage stamp. :)

My favorite episodes, right at this moment: S1 - Pilot, S2 - Insurgence, S3 - Perry, S4 - Transference (I love S4!), S5 - Hidden, S6 - Nemesis, S7 - Descent, S8 - Identity, S9 - Rabid.

My favorite villain and good guy are the same as yours. :)

So many songs! I think I want to do a whole post about the songs that end episodes, maybe my top ten or something. I think I have to go with Don't Take Your Love Away from Me, by VAST, at the end of Bride. I know it had Fake!Lex, but I love the song, the lyrics were so perfect, and visually it was both beautiful and haunting. And Erica was amazing, I thought.

Thanks again, Valerie! This was fun! Sorry I'm late and/or absent so much. :(
Apr. 3rd, 2010 03:49 am (UTC)
Great choices. I totally love that candid of MountainMan!Tom too. He just looked like he was relaxing and didn't care what he looked like. And isn't he entitled to that?

Tom looked so amazing in Odyssey. There's something very sexy about sweaty, disheveled Clark. Erica obviously thought so too, because I seem to recall her having a big reaction to this look in that episode. LOL

Thats a wonderful song. Actually, though Bride wasn't a favorite ep of mine, I really did enjoy the final montage a lot. And the song had tons to do with that. The right use of a song can make such a big impact.
