A Me Update, and Some Random Thoughts

I figured it had been over a week since I posted anything, and life has been crazy, and I have tons of things rolling around in my head (Scary!). So, I'm doing a random post full of just things.

- First, right off the bat, I want to apologize for being a bad flist friend when it comes to birthdays. I'm usually pretty good with this stuff, but lately I've been slacking.

So, I want to say I'm very sorry for these belated good wishes to solo_archer , gildinwen , beef_wonder3 , amandajane5 , huzzlewhat and duskwillow . Not sorry for the good wishes, but for them being belated, I mean.

Shame on me for not making a bigger deal for all my fellow Sag's.

- Remember those pretty pictures I posted of my Christmas lights? Well, they have been one freaking nightmare after another. Fuses being blown, lights going out, figures blowing over. It seems like everyday I come home to something new, and its sort of sucked the fun right out of the whole thing.

I am happy to report though that my Parrot continues to shine brightly and proudly. He rocks!

- The Christmas tree is up, and lit, but has no oranments on it. And it may very well stay this way. So far, the kitties have been pretty good, but I mostly keep them away from it. Too much temptation for Kitty Toddlers.

- Since we moved into our new office (which I love, BTW), work has been insanely busy. Its great that we are doing so well in this economy, and we're actually hiring a new person when so many other companies are letting people go. But still, BUSY!! All the time. I'm pooped. But my commute went from about 35-40m each way to about 15-20m each way, so yeah.

- I was going to try to make some Christmas avie's, but then I just lost the spirit. So, I don't have any.

- Nothing says Happy Holidays like expensive car repairs. *sigh*

- Add to that, nothing says Happy Fucking Holidays like family members who are driving you nuts and trying your patience, but you can't really get mad at them, or you can, but its pointless and just more frustrations (my favorite sister is exempt from this).

- I've been listening to my iPod at work lately, and on it is much of the soundtrack for the film "Last of the Mohicans" (the Daniel Day Lewis version). Its got to be one of the best soundtracks ever, and it always reminds me of how much I love that film. Though I find myself more moved by the wordless, subtle love story between Uncas and Alice rather then the more flamboyant theatrics of Hawkeye and Cora. But I love the film.

- Speaking of that, I need more songs for my iPod. Anyone got any good suggestions?

- I haven't been watching anything on TV these days. I fail at being a TV watcher. :( I really wish I could find more TV shows to be engaged in.

- I haven't been to the movies either. Not since I saw The Blind Side. Which was super amazing, BTW. I loved it, and Sandra Bullock was so good.

- I still think Avatar looks like crap. Just me?

- I filtered about 15 people at K-Site, and I'm a happier visitor/poster there now.

- YAY!! for a Clark spoiler for the JSA eps. Well, sort of a Clark spoiler. He's mentioned! Thats a step in the right direction. One day, someone is going to have to explain to me why it makes sense to NOT tease the upcoming storyline for your main character. I don't really get the philosophy.

- Not often, but sometimes I still go back and read TWoP. I don't know why. It must be some sort of mental disorder. Now, I'm not going to comment on anything Chloe related. That is what it is. But I don't get how anyone could totally discount Clark's heroics this season as though it doesn't mean anything. I do understand being unhappy with the season (I, myself, am rather tepid on it), and the state of certain relationships. And I can also understand questioning some of Clark's actions (I'm not personally a huge fan of the \S/ calling card). But really, has the show not made a very solid case for the fact that Clark is out there, patrolling, rescuing people, saving lives, putting out fires? Hasn't it even shown him inspiring fledgling superheroes (The Wonder Twins)? How does that not count for a damned thing? I don't get it.

- I want to thank, again, the folks who participated in my SV picspam project. Thank you to chatchien , christina_kat , jlvsclrk , tasabian , idunnoit , captaindove and goodvibe

I reluctantly admit...I had hoped for a lot more people to get involved, and I'm sort of bummed over that. Which is really silly, of course, but I figure I'm as entitled as anyone to feeling ignored. Usually I'm Miss "Hide-like-Rhino", but lately I'm a bit more sensitive. Must be these damned holidays again. They are making me maudlin.

- Why is Santa such a dick in "Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer"? What a whiney, self-indulgent, intolerant jackass he is. Oh yeah, I totally buy that he never noticed the big island full of misfit toys....NOT! I think that Lion King should've mauled his ass. Again, just me?

The Bumble though? Rocks! I hope his teeth grow back, and he chows down on a little reindeer coach.

- Can't wait for A Christmas Story to be on. I will watch it like I do every year. I think yelling "BUMPUSES!" is, like, the best way to express frustration.

- A special thanks to andreas_ri His Advant Calender has been loads of fun, and I'm enjoying it immensely.

- So, I don't get twitter. I've posted things to the SV Writers (thankfully, no crazy spamming, or anything like that), and I know it worked since it shows up on my home page, but I never see it on the SV Writers page. Its really confusing.

So, I guess thats all for now. Lots of Randomosity (I had a friend who used that word a lot...I don't think its real).

Nope. It could be the most awesome movie ever and I still won't go see it since I'm sick of all the hype and the CONSTANT plugging of it on FOX. It grates on my nerves every time I see a commercial.

I know it worked since it shows up on my home page, but I never see it on the SV Writers page. Its really confusing.
You won't see your posts on their page unless they have chosen to follow you as well.

I just can't get over the blue cat people. I'm sure its an amazing effect, but....they are BLUE CAT PEOPLE. Its sort of a dealbreaker for me.

I thought all the posts addressed to them would come up if you searched them using the @SV_Writers in the search section. No?

Also, I wanted to comment on your thoughts about TWOP and the such.

I don't really like saying things about other groups of fans after the other experiences I've had after doing so but I can say that most of the ardent Clark haters seem to fall in one of two groups. "Chloe fans who used to ship Chlark but now hate him because the writers haven't put them together" and "Lex fans who said they would never watch the show again after MR left but still do for some reason". I don't like generalizations but I think you could honestly put most of the Clark haters into one of those two two groups safely.

Both of those groups don't seem to get any enjoyment out of the show but they keep watching and complaining for some reason. It's like saying "This tastes horrible" while you continue to eat like there's no tomorrow.

Well, to be perfectly honest, I think some generalizations in SV fandom are right on the money. I know generalizing is considered a dirty word, but sometimes, its apt.

And I think you're right.

In reguards to TWOP, I think it's fairly obvious why they are down on Clark. It's basically a bunch of Chloe (first) fans who don't care how Clark looks as long as Chloe gets alot of screentime and/or comes off looking good. I personally didn't feel like Chlavis did her character much favors but it seems like that generally was considered great writing(save Doomsday) over there(ie tons of scrteentime/focus).

As you pointed out sure you can point out some issues with the way his character has been written but it's been a problem for a long time, it's not like something that just started now. The one big difference of Clark this season and previous seasons is that Chloe is not as prevalent holding his hand like she was in previous seasons(which I among others would argue is a good thing if you a fan of Clark)

As for TWOP, it's a guilty pleasure for myself to go over there to read for a good chuckle, especially the Chlois thread. I just love the fact no matter what Chloe does they will find a way to twist it to be something they expect out of the ILL, usually using the term Chloisy to try make it seem more legit.

I never understood why anyone would think Chlavis made Chloe look good either, but I think I came to the conclusion that it wasn't so much about Chloe looking good, as it was about her being the center of the story, and "the leading lady", and getting focus. I'm not sure I'd agree with that, but I can see the arguement.

I guess for this Clark fan, I'll take a Clark that burns a few \S/'s around over one that preferred to stay on the farm with Lana and not get involved. Clark may still have a few lessons to learn in so far as doing this hero thing the right way, but he certainly seems to be facing in the right direction now.
svfan01
Dec. 20th, 2009 01:20 am (UTC)
I guess with Chlavis some could fanwank Chloe "was doing it to protect Clark" which I personally find an insult to Clark. Clark's the hero let him protect himself, that goes to Lana as well in S6 for marrying Lex to protect Clark(it seems like "protecting" Clark is a writers excuse to have the female characters make dumb choices). I just found the whole Chlavis deal(not even counting Dommsday) made Chloe look like a terrible wife.

Sometimes there's a delay in seeing your tweet on their page...if you enter "sv_writers" into the search function, all the tweets will come up. (And I see yours - you gave them a cookie for a Clark spoiler today!)

Oh, well I'm glad you saw my twitter post. Like I said, I'm not doing the crazy stalking thing, because, HELLO! Crazy!! But I would like a few pro-Clark posts to get through to them.

Its hard to feel joyful over holiday decorations when they are such a headache.

Oh honey! I am ABSOLUTEY going to do the SV Picspam. I think it's a fabulous idea! I just... can't seem to get ahead of myself this holiday season. (I am supposed to be doing some boring but necessary domestic stuff right now, but as you can see.. I'm taking some slacker time instead).

More proof of my slackerhoodedness: I meant to go back and comment on your Christmas lights and how beautifully they set off your amazing home. And the Parrot! Awesome.

I am probably seeing Avatar on Friday because my dad and son have been looking forward to it, and no one can make it on Sat. At least the reviews have been very favorable, which I'm glad for.

TWOP is one place I am never tempted to visit anymore. Ever. I am far too intolerant of the asshat atmosphere. I'm not just talking as a Lana fan, but even more so as a Clark fan.

We watch A Christmas Story every year too. Fa Ra Ra Ra Ra! Hee! My favorite holiday film is Love Actually, but I still have to watch It's a Wonderful Life every year -sometimes by myself even.

Only posts by people the SV writers have followed show up on their page, but when they do a search for any replies to them, yours will also show up. So I'm sure they are seeing them. I have been even worse about reading Twitter than my LJ.

Please, I know whats been going on with you. You get a free pass!!

My parrot is the awesomest. I should've bought 20 of them.

I like Love Actually, but there are parts of the movie I have a problem with (the part with Laura Linney, specifically). But I adore the Colin Firth part of the movie. He's so charming and lovely.

Dec. 16th, 2009 06:07 am (UTC)
Okay, now I want to hear your problem with the Laura Linney storyline in LA. I find that one of the more complex of the stories.

I haven't seen Last of the Mohicans in a very long time. I think I'll dig out the DVD for a family movie night this holiday break. What a great movie on so many levels.

Two soundtracks that come to mind as favorites are: Love Actually (speaking of :)), and City of Angels.

jeannev
Dec. 16th, 2009 02:49 pm (UTC)
I think what bothers me about that storyline is that it is so sad. Here she is, with an actual chance at grabbing some happiness for herself, and she lets it slip away because she's hiding behind her relationship with this troubled brother. And its so frustrating, because you can easily see her letting this continue to consumer her whole life.

Oh, I adore the soundtrack for City of Angels. I'm not a huge fan of the film, but the soundtrack is amazing.

Your parrot is awesome! :) Sorry about the hassles with your decorations. The wind and rain around here have been wreaking havoc all over my neighborhood. A lot of people have given up and taken down everything except the lights on their houses and landscaping.

You're ahead of me with the tree. I have mine, but it's still sitting in the backyard in a bucket of water. It probably won't go up until this weekend. And I'm still wrestling with the whole LED vs. traditional thing with the tree lights. I still remember the Christmas I spent at my sister's when she had a new kitten. Only the top third of the tree was decorated! :)

Nothing says Happy Holidays like eight new tires, expensive roof repairs, AND an increase in your property taxes either. I feel your pain! My family members will feel it when they open their necessarily downsized gifts. :/

Speaking of which, don't even get me started on my family! I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have my own favorite sister to vent with. She always finds a way to make me laugh over their craziness. Which is just one of the reasons I didn't downsize her gift at all.

I haven't seen any movies lately either, except the Christmas ones I've been watching on DVD every night. :) One of which was While You Were Sleeping, with Sandra Bullock. Still a cute movie! And I have zero interest in seeing Avatar, especially after the awful product placement they did for it on Bones. It was worse than Stride gum on Smallville!

I still find myself over at TWoP sometimes, too, and I wish I would stop doing that to myself. I just can't resist looking to see what crazy theory is being expounded now, I guess, but the skewed (compared to my own, that is) view makes my head hurt most of the time. I think Clark is almost universally hated by the posters over there (with a few obvious exceptions, of course), and they interpret Clark's actions in ways that completely boggle my mind.

I still have every intention of participating in your project! I had it in my head that Christmas was the deadline, I hope it's not too late. I have all my pics in a folder, but you know me, I have to have words, too. That IS allowed, isn't it? Anyway, I'll be finishing mine up once my vacation starts on Thursday.

I think everyone is just busy with Christmas shopping and holiday parties and all that. I know I am.

I have a confession to make, I don't like any of those classic claymation (is that what they are?) Christmas specials (Rudolph, Frosty, I don't remember the others). I'm not big on the Grinch or Charlie Brown either. I do love the Muppets, though. :) And A Christmas Story!

That Twitter thing is really weird! When I do a search for @SV_Writers, I don't see your replies either, but I see in the comments that Tas does. Now I'm totally confused. I know if your Twitter is locked your replies are only visible to approved followers, but yours is public, so it makes no sense to me.

I think I'm about one power failure away from just unplugging all the animals. Its really too frustrating, and I'm already stressed to the max.

Well, I would say its nice to know that other people are stressed out over family, but that doesn't seem quite right. Instead, I'll just say I'm sorry for both of us.

I don't even care if one hates Clark (well, I do, but what can be done about it?). But just negating anything heroic he does? How does that even work?

There's no deadline on the picspam. Words, pictures, its all good! I'll be anxious to see your masterpiece.

I'm actually OK with the BurgermeisterMeisterBurger one. I mean, Kris Kringle is a little creepy, and Jessica is built like a brick shihouse. But I do like it. But Santa is also a dink in the Heat Miser/Snow Miser one, and I can't abide the Grinch at all. What he does to Max just upsets me too much.

I'd be bummed if none of my tweets got though to the SV writers (or should I say SV interns). We Clark advocates are thin in the ground.

LOL! Well, if you ever need a sympathetic ear, you can count on me.

I think they're so biased against him they see everything in an irrationally negative light. Kind of like my mother and Democrats. ;) Not everyone is like that, of course, but the ones who are, are also quite vocal, and usually inflammatory, so they tend to color my perception of the entire site.

I'll be anxious to see your masterpiece.

Eep! No pressure. :D

I don't think I'll ever understand watching a TV show, or seeing a movie, or reading a book, and pretending that what is there ISN'T there, ya know? I may not like certain things, and I may wish the story was told differently (Heck, I would've rewritten at least half of SV). But what is there IS THERE.

I know you're a woman that can handle pressure ;)

Alice/Uncas ftw. Their song, Promontory (and oh, I hope you have the original soundtrack, not the edited and "remastered" one that you can only get now) always makes me cry. As does the scene it accompanies.

Thanks! I'd totally missed those.

I had the original...on cassette, believe it or not. Now, most of the stuff I have is downloaded off iTunes. Some of it is remastered, and some isn't.

And is that the scene where he holds her while they are hiding out under the waterfall? Or the death scene? Both scenes absolutely gut me.

Every time I try to work on the picspam my mind freezes. Not even sure why as I can think of lots of stuff. I think I'm just worried people won't like my picks?

I'm glad to hear that the Christmas parrot is holding up! So cute.

I don't know if you'd like this show but I'm really enjoying Psych right now. And YES to Blind Side! LOVE it. And words cannot express how not excited I am about Avatar. I'll probably go see it since it's getting good reviews and is suppose to be a big change for filmmaking but I'm going to be dragging my feet.

I found myself oddly disappointed by the recent Absolute Justice spoilers. Really, all the spoilers for next season are not exciting me. None of them seem to relate at all to what they've been setting up in the first half of season 9.
jeannev
Dec. 16th, 2009 02:56 pm (UTC)
Kassie, I will love your picks. You can count on it. :)

I'm going to skip Avatar altogether. But I am so there for Sherlock Holmes!

I'm trying to get excited for the JSA stuff, but so far, its pretty tepid. I think my problem is that it just really doesn't feel like its about Clark, but rather like its a stunt for the fanboys. And believe me, I'm not against throwing a few bones to the fanboys. But again, its like the show has moved so far away from being Clark's story. It depresses me.

And there are so few spoilers for other eps, and what we have aren't Clark-centric at all. Blah!

First here's a big giant bear "hug" via cyber space. You need it big time and preferably by someone that could be mistaken to be a twin of Tom Welling. *grins*

Second. New Year's Resolution..if you are having a bad day or month please stay away from TWOP. Your blood pressure and sanity will thank you. I used to lurk there after being punted off a couple of years ago for defending Tom, Erica and KK but again....I didn't like feeling so mad afterwards. Gah! I guess I've always felt that if you hate a show so much then don't hide behind "this is TV without pity" so this equals mean spirited talk but just turn the channel and find something else to watch.

*cringes* OMG the weather has been playing havoc with your lights! No!!!! Do what you have to do it save your sanity and you did a good job *very pretty* I guess with having a little one I had to stop beating myself up about trying to do what I used to do (decorate like crazy and clean like crazy..lol) and do what I could handle and be okay with that. Take it from me its hard to do but if you can surrender just a tinsy bit....you feel a lot better!

Ah kittens and tree ornaments...gottcha. I had to put all my breakable stuff on the top 3rd of the tree and buy some nice looking unbreakable ones for the bottom 'cause of Alexander. The other problem I have is my one cat still goes outside and when we used to get real trees he thought "hey mom thanks I can spray this so now I don't have to go outside". Gah! Last year I used orange or lavender oil infused water spray and doused the tree and it worked but hte smell...yikes! This year I have this natural catnip spray and now my cat is all happy and just cuddles the tree instead of "christening it"...lol.

Take care of yourself with working so much hon!

Expensive care repairs...I'm trying to play a game of avoidence right now. My radiator will need replacing sooner then later, my left mirror interior control doesn't work and they have to replace the whole stupid assemply for over $200 and the right door lock can only be locked manually from the outside with a key because someone tried to break into my car while it was parked on our street. Sigh. We know its time to buy a new car 'cause hey its a 92 honda but we only drive it once a week so we are trying to just hang on in time like these.

Family and Christmas? I think I posted my about mine or should I say my BF's on my LJ and they are still driving me crazy.

http://sunflowercyn10.livejournal.com/55012.html

It nearly ruined my Christmas becauses everytime I thought things were settled I'd get another crazy call. I just want to have fun with my little guy since next Christmas it won't be just him anymore. *shakes head* You are right about it being pointless to get mad at family...Sigh.

Last of the Mohicans too! I haven't seen that in awhile but it is one of my fav movies and the sound track...you are right it is really really good. My heart still pumps a beat when he races along trying to get to Cora and save her. Wow.

TV and movies I'm way behind too. Don't kill me but I think I may go see New Moon during the holidays. I got sucked into reading the books and now I'm curious...not to mention it was filmed in and around Vancouver and where I vacationed on Vancouver Island. Avatar..I keep reading good reviews but my first reaction was James Cameron = crap....and he's a Canadian but he stills drives me crazy. 500 million to make? He seems to always go way over the top when he makes movies. I wonder when he's going to bankrupt a studio?

Agreed....about the JSA spoiler about well an insy bit about Clark. We heard way more about him before S9 started then zilch. Weird.

I have never like the Santa in the Reindeer one too. Wow I've got to sit down and start watching all the Xmas movies preferably before Christmas :) Cyn remember to hit record!!!

Valerie....here's hoping you catch the Christmas spirit sooner then later 'cause you deserve sweetie. You always take the time and comment when I'm feeling stressed and worried (and when I'm feeeling good too) and I really appreciate it.

*hugs with Christmas sprinkles*

Thank for the hug. And if someone that looked very much like Tom Welling was giving me a hug, he better be prepared for more then that. ;)

Honestly, besides my own journal, and a few journals of my friends, I'm not sure there's any SV related site that doesn't send my blood pressure soaring from time to time. But certainly TWoP is worse then most. Its amazing how many people who wouldn't fall in lockstep have gotten booted off that site. I'm not even sure why they pretend to be fair. They aren't.

I hope things have settled down with your family stuff.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I also appreciate the kind words and warm thoughts right now.

I've been listening to my iPod at work lately, and on it is much of the soundtrack for the film "Last of the Mohicans" (the Daniel Day Lewis version). Its got to be one of the best soundtracks ever, and it always reminds me of how much I love that film. Though I find myself more moved by the wordless, subtle love story between Uncas and Alice rather then the more flamboyant theatrics of Hawkeye and Cora. But I love the film.

OMG I totally am on the same page with you on this. The Soundtrack is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G especially the violin song, that is one of my favorites. And I agree also with the Uncas/Alice subtle romance... it was more intriguing than the other one. Plus, the sacrifice the Major did too is something I felt very powerful in that movie.

And regarding holidays/christmas, it's trouble I guess in every family. I know I have some issues as well.... especially when your sister lives in the complete other side of the world: when she's in town, you must be ready to receive her! lol

And a Clark spoiler !!!! Finally!!!!!!!! \o/

Yeah, the Major is an interesting character too. Duncan, right? And I love Indian Dad (I wouldn't even try to spell his name). I feel so much grief for him when Uncas dies.

3 cheers for Clark spoilers, no matter how slight they are.

He certainly does! I didn’t comment on your Christmas lights post but they’re awesome! Too bad you’re having so much trouble with it. And you have a lovely house.

//Since we moved into our new office (which I love, BTW), work has been insanely busy. Its great that we are doing so well in this economy, and we're actually hiring a new person when so many other companies are letting people go.//
Tell me about it! Believe it or not, I hired 150 employees in 2009. Economy crisis? What economy crisis?

I always liked « The last of the Mohicans » soundtrack. I also liked « Brave heart » and « Waking Ned Devine ». If you haven’t seen that movie, you should rent it! The soundtrack is pretty much celtic, if you like that kind of music.

*warning : from this point forward, this reply contains some sarcastic and not-too-serious remarks, edit at will*

//Not often, but sometimes I still go back and read TWoP. I don't know why. It must be some sort of mental disorder.//
LOL! At least, you know it! J/K of course! But I read some of them elsewhere saying that TWOP is more intelligent then other sites! That reminds me of a CSI episode I watched yesterday when a crazy woman said that reptilian aliens are among us but that the police is not intelligent enough to comprehend it. So you see, I don’t go at TWOP anymore because I’m not intelligent enough to comprehend their fine meta analysis! LOL!

//I've posted things to the SV Writers (thankfully, no crazy spamming, or anything like that), and I know it worked since it shows up on my home page, but I never see it on the SV Writers page. Its really confusing.//
I figured that if I didn’t see my tweet about how Pandora sucked, it’s because they blocked me. Well, I asked for it. :D But I don’t see why they would block you for asking more Clark. Maybe you should say « I love Cloisssssss!!» to see if that one goes through! Or maybe not. But kidding aside, I think I've seen some of your tweets when I search @SV_writers, but not lately.

//I filtered about 15 people at K-Site, and I'm a happier visitor/poster there now.//
Oh, so that’s what « Filterville » means? I’m slow. :D I haven’t filtered anyone yet, but I asked a couple of posters to filter me if they weren’t happy; I hope they did. I would like to continue being an annoying Clark fan in peace! :)

I love Andreas’ Advent calendar too! It’s the first thing I look for on even days!

Thanks for the compliments on my lovely house. I see it as a work-in-progress.

Thanks for the soundtrack recommendations.

LOL at TWoP being more intelligent. Really, intelligent conversation should be able to criticize and be witty without being offensive, and downright moronic. I personally think the most intelligent SV fandom posters I know can be found here, on lj.

Yeah, I've embraced filterville. I tried taking another approach, but that didn't go down to well. So, I embraced the filter. It keeps my blood pressure lower. And yeah, I wish some people would filter me as well.

Thank you for the birthday wishes. ♥

Aw, sorry to hear your Christmas decorations are giving you so much trouble.
But yay for the Parrot for proving how superior he is! :D

Song suggestions. I'm enjoying new Pear Jam album (Backspacer) at the moment, if that's your type of music. It's really upbeat and fun.

That Parrot Rules Them All!!!

I am sorry I didn't do something more special for your birthday. Next year.

I do like Pearl Jam, so thanks for the suggestion.
