Tom Welling movie role rumor

Holy Smokes, big Tom Welling rumor:

http://www.iesb.net/index.php?option=com_ezine&task=read&page=1&category=1&article=3138

The motion capture rumor that we received earlier this week caused us to do some deep digging on the JLA production. Here’s what we have found out. Yes there will be motion capture used in the film but it will not be an all out “motion capture production.” Heavy motion capture will be used for the OMACs, the underwater sequences and such. So, all in all, this will be a traditionally made film with some motion capture characters, pretty much like every big fantasy movie these days. So that appears to be the final word on that subject. Now onto the big stuff!

Bale and Routh are flat out, for sure, but who does WB want to replace them with? Studio sources have exclusively revealed to the IESB that someone has been approached to fill the shoes of the Man of Steel!

Get ready Smallville fans, your fantasies of Tom Welling in a cape are getting ready to come true. Yes that’s right, Tom Welling, TV’s Clark Kent, has been approached to take up the Superman role in the Justice League film. This has been a hope of Smallville fans for years and all indications are that WB has finally heard the call.

We contacted Tom Welling’s reps over at CAA and were quickly (and I mean quickly!) transferred to the PR department of theatrical releases for comment, we are waiting on an official comment at this time.

But what about the shooting schedule of Smallville that is supposed to go through around April you ask? Word is, the production of Smallville in Vancouver is even willing to work around whatever Welling’s schedule may be in order for their small screen superhero to make the jump to theaters. Or my thought is, maybe they will continue and completely turn the show over to the new girl in town, Kara, aka Supergirl.

We have contacted the Smallville production office and are awaiting a call back. We also contacted Warner Bros. corporate communications who handles projects in development. When we asked if they would give us a comment on George Miller (the soon to be announced director) or Tom Welling the answer we got was, “No.”

We’ve got this locked in from multiple sources, again, Chinese water torture goes a LONG WAY! But that’s the word!

Now how does this effect the Bryan Singer Superman franchise or the Chris Nolan Batman films? What we are hearing from the WB camp is that it doesn’t effect them at all. The Nolan Batman films will continue, the Singer Superman films we have been told will continue and Justice League will have its own storyline and universe. Very similar to what DC does nowadays in the animated world with these characters.

I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know. I’m just hoping for the best. By now, who’s to say that Tom even wants to play Superman ;especially if it turns out that this is SV’s last year—perish the thought—he may just want to move on to something else.

It looks like they are trying to fast track it (they certainly can’t wait for Singer’s Superman in 2009), but I don’t see it getting started this year.

I guess I’ll wait and see.

On a side note, I’m impressed he’s with CAA. I’m sure he drives his agent crazy because being with CAA he can be getting more work than he has and I’m sure he turns down a lot of projects.

I thought the same thing about CAA. Thats a bigtime agency.

Bottom line, I want more Tom Welling, and I want him in the hands of better people then AlMiles. So, whether this happens or not, I really, really want big screen opportunities for Tom.

Patrick Dempsey is also with CAA, so it's most definitely a huge agency. And I definitely think he's saying "no" to a lot of projects as well.

Wow freaky. I was just talking about TW as Superman (only in a Superman movie capacity) with someone earlier in the day. Am I psychic? :p

I'm torn though. I can't decide whether I'd want him in the JLA type movie, or in a Supes only movie. Either way, he'd be fantastic.

And say what you will about AlMiles, they are really good writers. They've written some of the best episodes of the entire *series*. Pilot, Metamorphosis, Crush, Tempest, Rosetta, Exile, Memoria, Crusade, and also wrote quite a few of the little things that they never got credit for. They just have trouble with management/leadership, especially when things happen beyond their control.

I actually would never dispute that AlMiles have talent as script writers. As showrunners? I think they are seriously lacking. And every producer/showrunner has to deal with things beyond their control or network interference.

And really, these are the guys that thought involving Clark in a love triangle with Lex and Lana was a good idea. For that alone I think they should be stood in a corner for a week. ;)

I guess for me, as a Clark fan, I'd really love to see Tom's Clark in the hands of writers/showrunners that truly have love for the character, and respect for the actor. I don't believe that to be the case with Smallville. At least not for the last 2 seasons. :(

I think I will die happy if I get to see Tom in a suit... :D

That would be cool, wouldn't it?

This probably won't happen, but I think it just brought up to the surface how depressing I think it is that Tom's Clark Kent is stuck in the hands of the Goughlar. *sobs*

Hmm. Tom Welling in the famous tights. Now isn't that a sight for sore-from-season-six eyes.

Imagining the visual alone would be worth my 10 bucks.

But I think, for me, its more then that. Its him being included in a multi-million dollar project, and an excellent director. And no doubt, getting to play a character thats getting the respect such an iconic character warrants. And its also him getting bigtime attention. Interviews, talkshows, real mainstream attention.

But I'm keeping my hopes under lock and key. Better to expect disappointment, and be pleasantly suprised, then vice versa.

I think it would be awesome to see TW on the big screen in the tights. *giggle* Seriously, it would be great. I think it would be lovely to see him in the 'role' with directors who actually want to concentrate on the 'hero' aspect of the characters. lol. I hope this happens.

And if it happens, I wonder who gets cast in the other roles. And how much inappropriate chemistry is TW going to have with them? LOL

LMAO!
It will be really interesting to see who they cast in the other roles. I'm looking forward to seeing who they cast for the villains, too.

I really think AlMiles want to keep Tom because they know he's bankable and the main reason people are still watching the show. However, they are frustrated with him because he wants to stretch his wings and he dare to question their vision. It's totally ridiculous.

I know that my opinion of AlMiles has completely gone down even futher.

I agree with you Pep. For all their attentions on Lana, and their obession with guest stars, I think, deepdown, they know people keep on tuning in for Clark and TW. I just believe they think they can exploit that, without really writing for him, ya know?

I would love to know why Tom agreed to a S8? Why Tom? WHY??!!

And now that we have a very credible witness who says, flat out, that Tom isn't liking the storyline direction and there's tension on the set, I think we're now getting a clearer picture of why Tom has completely stopped promoting the show, and why the Goughlar never seem to have anything complimentary to say about him.

My opinion of goughlar was pretty low to begin with. Now? In the gutter.

My guess is that Tom wanted more time off to pursue other projects, so they made him sign through season eight. But now, I have a sneaking suspicion that they've gone back on their word. And, like I said, I think Tom is questioning their involvement or their lack of involvement with the show because he thinks Clark is suffering, and they are a bit offended with him for doing so. Basically, I think he's being punished by the Goughlar for actually having a working brain. ;)

I have to say Pep, that sounds completely plausible. Fuckers!

I wish his agent had talked him out of it though. :(

Well. ::rubs eyes:: Am I reading right? Honestly, how awesome is this! As in, the "TW being approached" part, not the "Goughlar strkes again" bit.

I have to say, I am completely rooting for TW to get this role. I have nothing against Routh or Superman Returns - I liked both, but for me, if TW gets to enact the role, he will do a definitive job of it, I'm sure.

Now, as for the Goughlar. ::sighs:: I wish I could say I was surprised by this alleged behaviour. Sadly, I'm not.

I've got my fingers and toes crossed.

Look, its not my perfect dream job for him. But I think he'd do a great job, and I think he'd get a lot of attention and publicity. And he'd be free, Free, FREE! of the Goughlar and Lana. Scores major points for me.

Maybe if we all think good thoughts....

::crosses fingers and toes with you::

Like I said earlier, I really think he would do a definitive job of the role. He would own it. I actually happen to see this as nothing but a plus for him. As you say, lots of media attention and publicity, for one. An oppprtunity to amass a much larger fanbase, another. And then the fact that it is stil an ensemble film, which is great, because inspite of the ginormity of his role itself, he still has other castmembers to share the responsibilities with. Also, ultimately, I'm not really fearing typecasting all too much. He seems to be an intelligent actor, who has for the most part made sound choices thus far (barring the decision to sign for season 8!). I can honestly see TW seeking out the kind of projects that would be good for him, in some way or the other, if he were truly inclined.

Plus, what a joy it would be to see him in the suit on the big screen. Since that is something we as Clark/TW fans will probably never get to witness on the show itself.

Can you tell, I'm really rooting for this? ;-)

You and me both. I feel like trying to find out who I have to send flowers too...or candy...or a stripper. Whatever it takes to make this happen. LOL

*has hands clasped together* oh please, oh please, oh please.....it would be a dream come true to see Tom in the SUIT. And he would actually have a superman story that you know would like focus on him.
But can you imagine if they uh get Rosenbaum as Lex. and the amount of inappropriate chemistry they bring to the big screen? *guh*
