Clark Kent Meme - Day 12 - Leech

One of my favorite scenes from S1, mostly because it featured some of Clark's happiest, brightest smiles ever.  And all because he got to play real basketball with some guys at school.  Adorable!

I can't even imagine how much more enjoyable this show would be if Clark was happier more often.

He really did seem like the cutest teenager in S1. Even though Tom physically looked older, he really managed to capture that whole attitude.

He was so adorable in that scene! He was having a lot of fun without having to carry the weight of the world for a little while. Poor beautiful Clark!

It was really sweet. And its one of the few scenes that touched on a part of the show that I feel has been really ignored....just how difficult and painful Clark's childhood must've been, even with the love of his parents. But I guess that wasn't as important as Lex's bad childhood, or Davis' bad childhood, or Lana's dead parents, etc.

I agree! I can't understand why they never did a flashback or mentioned how difficult it had to have been for Clark to face all those challenges every day. Once again, stupid writers!

I adored that whole sequence. From the bashful eagerness when he was invited to play on. You could see what he was thinking... "I can do that? I can do that!!!" It really gave such a strong sense of how much Clark had been denied in his life, that such a normal, everyday thing as a game of basketball gave him so much joy.

Exactly. Its the sort of thing that this show should've done so much more. Its an important part of Clark, and this heavy burden he carries should be given focus.

Yeah, I adore that scene because it's Clark having fun and just kicking back with some kids his own age. Very sweet.

It is very sweet, and poignant. I will always think the show missed the boat by not delving into this aspect of the show more.

I touched on this in my Eternal review, but YES. He was so happy just to be able to normal that it should have given people a hint just how bad his childhood was. I mean seriously, he couldn't have a birthday party, and this was the first he had ever been able to play in any sport. And how cute!!!!

EXACTLY!! Why doesn't that merit some sympathy? Why does this show never seem to appreciate what a difficult childhood Clark must've had. Not due to absence of love, but due to the circumstances of who he was, and how his parents had to hide him, and teach him to hide himself. My God, its heartbreaking.

OMG...that does it now I have to go and find my S1 DVDs and watch this one 'cause I forgot about this scene and the scene with his parents that Christine mentioned on her LJ. I can't believe how happy he looks!!! Male bonding...Clark doesn't get enough of that any more by a long shot...

Since started this, I've also started watching some of the eps. I adore S1 madly, and it holds up on multiple views.

Agreed. I think S1 is under rated by some fans (not by me) :)

Its a great smile. And its all Tom Welling, because even when he's in just Tom mode, he has that beautiful, open smile. For such a guarded person, its a bit unexpected.
