Vacation Photos

Yes, I'm back.  I bet some of you didn't even realize I was gone.

I was up in British Columbia.  3 days in Whistler, where I shopped and spa'ed, and then 3 days in Vancouver, where I shopped, ate, and did various touristy things.  This was actually my first Vancouver trip without a celebrity sighting.  The old town must be slipping.  But the weather in Vancouver was incredible.  Clear for miles.  And I've been there enough times to know thats rare.

I'm usually not one of those people who posts vacation photos.  Or even shows anyone but immediate family.  Its my whole "must remain mysterious" thing, I guess.  But I got a new camera for Christmas, and the weather was so lovely, and I got some really nice animal shots.  I thought I'd share a few :)

But I'll post them under the cut due to size, and well, anyone who just doesn't care.  LOL

Type your cut contents here.

This is my favorite picture.  This is one of the wolves at the Grouse Mountain Wolf Refuge

This is the new baby Beluga, Tiga, at the Vancouver Aquarium

This is a shot of gorgeous BC mountains, in North Vancouver, not 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver

This is a shot of the Capilano Suspension Bridge.  I go there everytime I'm up in Vancouver.  And yes, the bridge moves and sways a bit when you cross it.  Its incredibly cool!

And thats all I'll post for now.  Don't want to bore anyone too much, and also photobucket is being a Poop-Head

Here's another wolf picture.  He's not the same wolf as above.  The refuge has 2 arctic wolves, and one timber wolf

This is a shot from Stanley Park

What pretty photos! And I'm not sure if I'd want to cross that bridge. It looks a bit scary.

I guess the bridge can seem scary, but its really so cool. And perfectly safe. And the view from it is breathtaking.

I was so pleased with my new camera, and the weather was so nice to cooperate.

Those are very pretty pics! I went to Vancouver some time ago and aww, baby beluga! My sister wanted to go to the Aquarium so we went but I don't think the beluga had a name when we went. :D

The bridge is really fun to cross though! I totally agree. I had a blast taking pics while my family was on it. LOL :D

Btw, you're SO not boring me.

Ooh, I forgot to say welcome back! *hugs* :D

Thanks, and *hugs back* How was your birthday?

I have some more pictures, including some of Whistler, so maybe I'll post a few more. Thanks for saying that I'm not boring you.

Vancouver is such a lovely place. I would love to have a house there. Maybe one day...when I'm filthy rich. :P

My birthday was great, thank you! I went to Disneyland with some friends (two of my friends actually drove down from Northern CA to Southern CA for me) and I had a lot of fun. :D

Ooh, I see you posted a few more. Very beautiful! The wolf looks SO cool. And I love hearing about vacations and seeing pictures. :D

I was there for about a week when I went but YES. I definitely could've spent more time there. :)

Thank you! I thought it was awfully nice of Tiga to pose so prettily for me. She came right up to where I was watching her, and posed like that. She's so adorable. I have enough beautiful wolf picture that I'm going to add. I love wolves, and to get such amazing pictures of them was such a joy.

That wolf is just absolutely gorgeous! How close could ya manage to get up close to it, though?

And the beluga just looks so funny. Heh.

Yes, suspension bridges *are* cool! I can totally imagine my brother being petrified and rushing to even take a step on it. XD

I actually wasn't close to the wolf at all. I have a camera with a 10x zoom. This was the first time I put it to the test, and I was thrilled with the results.

The baby beluga was darling, and very playful and feisty. Another of the beluga's is expecting.

The suspension bridge is amazing. I encourage anyone who goes there to try and conquer their fears, because the view and whats on the other side is so worth it.

Welcome back! *hugs* I'm so glad you had a good time on your vacation!

Those pics are stunning, and I'd love to see more if you want to share. My favorite is the wolf pic, he's gorgeous! And looking right at you!

Those mountains are breathtaking. And that bridge looks scary, but irresistible. :) I'm not afraid of heights, but I can't be up really high without imagining falling. I torture myself that way!

*hugs back* I really did enjoy this vacation. Well, except for a shitty manicure, and a really uncomfortable bed in my Vancouver hotel. Really, the room has a 50" flat screen, but a crap bed? Priorities, people!

I have a thing for wolves. They are such a remarkable creature. I felt really lucky to be able to see them like this. I have another wolf picture that I'll add that is super adorable,

I couldn't believe the visibility. I could see for miles. Its so rare to be able to see the mountain peaks, since they are usually obscured by clouds.

I think if you were on the bridge with someone you trust, and you were able to really enjoy the view, you'd be able to control your falling issue.

Bad beds in hotels are the worst! And even the fanciest hotels have them sometimes.

When I was just in Colorado on my vacation, it was really clear like that. And where my sister lives is surrounded by mountains, all of which were white with snow when I was there. It was a beautiful setting.

I've traveled a lot, and I don't think I've ever been as bothered by a hotel bed.

Mountains are so beautiful, and really humbling. This was my beautiful Vancouver trip.

Of course we noticed you were gone! Or at least I did! I'm glad you had fun. I've never been to a spa before. Maybe someday, my sister and I can go and pamper ourselves.

Your pictures are great. I love looking at pictures of other places and other people's vacations although it makes me a little jealous! :-) If you want to post more, I'd love to see them.

Maybe a lot of shows have wrapped filming already and that's why you didn't see any celebrities?

Welcome Back!

The spa was nice, but I've actually been to better. The mani/pedi was really a disappointment. The facial was lovely though. You should definitely go one day. Its a fun experiance.

I will post some more. I'll probably post them here, so check back.

I know some shows have wrapped, but others are filming. Like the new Stargate, and the new BSG. But usually you see someone out and about, but not this time. And my hotel is even a popular celebrity residence.

It is nice to be home though. I missed my comfy bed and soft sheets.

Oh! That wolf just took my breath away! What lovely photos, hon! I used to live in Buffalo, NY, and we used to go up into Canada all the time. It's so lovely there.

Glad you had fun, and thanks for sharing the pics!

Canada is such a lovely country. I've been to all 2 major cities, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, and they are all so unique and charming.

Thanks for the nice comments on the pictures. Posting my vacation pics was actually a big step for me in "sharing".

The view from downtown Vancouver is hard to believe. Water, mountains, and lots of beautiful buildings. Its very picturesque.

Wolves are an amazing creature. I think a lot of my affection for them is due to how maligned they are.

She's not a dolphin actually, but a whale. A beluga whale. I have some pics of her mom and her grandma as well. Grandma is currently expecting in July.

I had a really nice trip. No complaints (well, except the bed, but I covered that in another reply).

Thanks for not being bored. :)

Vancouver is one of my favorite places in the world because of the combination of oceans and mountains. I keep wishing I'd move out west with sister 1, though sister 2 would never have forgiven me. Oh well, living where I do know, I have lots of nice trips visiting both.

Those are great pictures, particularly of the wolf. Supernatural British Columbia indeed!

Vancouver is also one of my favorite places. Its just a great combo of all the right things. If it has any knock against it, its probably the weather. And its a bit expensive, though I'm from NY, so there's really no comparison.

I don't know how SPN seems to find so many seedy locations to shoot in, since most of Vancouver is so pretty.

Ooh, lovely wolves! I've never seen any that close. I always think Tom looks a little like a timber wolf!

The Vancouver aquarium is fun - I spent so much time watching the sea otters!

I can see a bit of a wolfish look to our Tom. Its the light eyes, and the fangs.

I LOVE the otters. Those creatures define adorable. Unfortunately, its hard to get good pictures of them due to the glass. I got a few, but they aren't great.

Glad to hear you are back safe and sound.

I love your pictures, esp. the one of the mountains. I went to Vancouver in 2005 and got a chance to see so many filming locations of SV along with taking in the culture, the variety, the beauty.... It is one of my favorite places on earth. (And yes, I loved the Capilano Bridge!!!)

Drop names. Who have you seen in your other visits in Vancouver??

jeannev
Apr. 20th, 2009 03:57 am (UTC)
I have seen some of the SV locations. Its hard to miss the DP building, or the Luthorcorp building. But I've never really done the SV tour.

People I have seen in Vancouver:

Shawn Ashmore
Eric Mccormick
Rick Schroeder
Saul Rubinek
Dave Foley
Kristinna Loken
Rose Rawlins (don't know if thats the right spelling, she was on The L Word)

And my favorite sighting, Jared Padalecki and his amazing dogs, including my buddy Harley.

I did see someone in my hotel signing a copy of the Twilight book for someone. I know they are filming the sequel up in Vancouver, but I wouldn't know any of those actors if I fell over them. So, maybe I saw someone semi-famous, but I couldn't tell you who. It wasn't the cro-magnon guy that people keep calling a hunk.

Being a movie/tv buff, I love hearing people's stories about "the day I saw....". What fun!

Jared must have been particularly yummy. He is so tall!!

I can't believe you haven't done the SV tour. Aren't you the premiere SV fan???? You must do it!!! It is all kinds of joy! I have the geekiet pictures of me in all kinds of random sites. The most fun about the whole experience was that I got to see all corners of Vancouver on the hunt for the locations. I don't think I left an area unturned.

Apr. 21st, 2009 03:34 am (UTC)
The funny thing about Jared was that he didn't seem to tall. He's really slim. Much more narrow then you would think. But he was very cute, and super, super nice. He very politely stood by while me and his dog were bonding.

I don't know why I haven't done the SV location tour. Maybe next time I'm there. I think its because I don't really know where the locations are. I did find the studio though, which isn't easy.

The next time you visit and you need addresses, let me know. I still have my Vancouver city map with all the locations circled. My fav was the Kent Farm. It is so idyllic and gorgeous....just like you imagine the Kent Farm to be like. And I had fun At the Bridge. I have some really silly pics of me all over the Bridge (porche not included).

Wow, I need to visit Vancouver. I've been to Whistler for skiing and that was fun but these shots are amazing. Never even seen that bridge before! Reminds me of the glass floor in the CN Tower that we have here in Toronto. I've never been on that either to be honest! God, my life is empty.

That first pic of the wolf is awesome! I love animals.

You were in Whistler, but you didn't go to Vancouver? They're so close. The bridge is a must see (and do).

I've been to the CN Tower, a few times actually. And see, I'm one of the idiots that jumped on the glass floor, then laid on it and had my picture taken. Yes, I'm one of those tourists. LOL

I can't tell you how pleased I was with how that wolf picture came out. Like I said, this was the first time I was using my new camera, and I wasn't sure how the zoom would work. I was thrilled beyond expectations.
