Smallville Questions because I am Bored!

I am bored!  So, I'm looking for ways to entertain myself.  I've been downloading stuff to my iPod like crazy, but I need a break from that.

So, I thought I'd do some SV discussing.  No, not spoiler stuff, because quite frankly, I don't know how much I want to think about whats coming.  I feel so undecided about it all.  Instead, I'd rather look back.

So, here are my questions:

What are your top 3 (or 5, if you are feeling ambitious and verbose) episodes of SV, and why?

What are your bottom 3 (or 5) episodes of SV, and why?

What 3 episodes do you consider really awesome, except for.....?  Meaning eps that have that one scene, or line, or plot twist that really threw you out of it.

What 3 lousy/boring or mediocre episodes have this really great scene/scenes?  Whats the scene?

What are your 3 more overrated episodes?  Your 3 most underrated episodes?  And why?

OK, now lets get more creative:

For each season (and you can include S8 up to this point), make one episode a 2-parter, and eliminate one episode altogether.  How would you expand the episode into a 2-parter, and why did you get rid of the one you discarded?

For the remaining SV episodes left (whether that just be the remainder of this season, or an entire S9), you can bring back 3 characters from the past.  Whether they be alive or dead.  Who are you bringing back, and how will you explain their reappearance?  For how long are you bringing them back?

If there's a S9, its going to need a new Big Bad.  Who is it?

If another future JLA member was introduced, who would you choose, and how would you introduce them?  And since this is just for fun here, you have NO restrictions.

I figured I'd wait a little while before posting my own answers, to see if I can get anyone to play with me.  :)  For all I know, I may be the only bored person out here.

_________________________________________________________________

I'm adding my answers now that I've found playmates!

My top eps:

1. Exile - Because its flat out awesome.  I always say its like watching a mini-movie.  And the whole look and feel of Metropolis that was achieved was very impressive, as was the secondary plot of Lex on the island.
2. Transference - Because TW's performance blows me away.  Because its dramatic, and very amusing at the same time.  I love the pacing, I love the direction, I love the dialogue.
3. Vengeance - Probably not on a lot of peoples lists, but I can't find a wrong beat in this episode.  It packs a bigger emotional impact that the episode that proceeded it, Reckoning.  It used all the characters so very well, and its a tremendous performance by TW.  The end scene is the single most memorable SV scene for me.  Ever
4. Arrival/Mortal/Hidden - This is totally cheating, but I really see these episodes as a 3-parter.  The first 2 flow seamlessly into the next episode.  The arc reaches big emotional highs and lows.  The cast is at the top of their game.

My bottom eps:

1. Sleeper - I despise this episode.  For the boring, pointless, and frankly annoying Chimmy stuff.  But mostly for the hachet job thats done on Clark in the scant minutes he's on screen.  And also for the terrible underuse of MR, knowing he only had a few eps left.
2. Lockdown - This is another episode I hate due to the writing for Clark.  He's scapegoated here to push the Lexana agenda, and I loathe that sort of writing.  Not to mention that the Lexana stuff was a snore.
3. Veritas - And this episode almost ended the season?  Underwritten, nonsensical, and Clark being totally ineffectual.  I like nothing about it at all.
4. Abyss - At this point in the show, I'm so over them setting up situations just so Clark can be wrong, and something bad can happen.  Its tired beyond belief.  I also find the Jimmy/Chloe/Davis triangle less then scintillating.  I just didn't enjoy this episode at all, and it left me aggravated.
5. Static - This episode just bores me to tears, and aggravates me at the same time.  A Clark plot that should've been a very big deal is relegated to the C story.

Really awesome....almost....

1. Labyrinth - Not to be predictable, but the ending just doesn't work with what we saw in the episode.  It felt wrong, and tacked on, and I believe thats precisely what happened.
2. Cure - This is an episode that falls apart at the end for me.  Instead of the excrutiating long Chimmy break-up scene, I'd much rather have had a longer conversation between Clark and MM about what happened to Curtis Knox.  The ending just feels really messy, and I think it hurts the episode overall.
3. Crimson - This is an episode that would've been awesome had it not turned into a Clexana piece.  The idea of a Red-K Clark and Lois tearing up Metropolis sounds like loads of fun, but it just turned into something mean and ugly in the end.  Not to mention the lack of real resolution between Clark and Martha.  Its half good, fun episode, half trainwreck.
4. Whisper - I really like this episode, except the final Clana scene which just ruins it for me.

3 Lousy Eps, but what a great scene....

1. Dichotic - An irritating, annoying episode that makes me want to beat Lana and Chloe silly.  But what a great scene for Clark at the end! (also points for the Clark/Helen stuff)
2. Fierce - For the final scene between Kara and Lex.  Well written, and chilling, and a promise of something that, sadly, never came.
3. Tomb - I have no love for this episode, but the final Chlark scene is a great one.   Its nice to see Clark giving the good advice, and being the supportive best friend.

Overrated Eps

1. Justice
2. Reckoning
3. Memoria

Underrated Eps

1. Vengeance
2. Traveler
3. Visitor
4. Convenant

2-Parter/1-Dropped

S1:  Obscura becomes the 2-parter, with the first episode all about finding Chloe, and the 2nd part dealing with Lana's visions, and her being a target.  Good-bye Kinetic.
S2:  Although I'm not a big fan of the actor playing Lucas, Prodigal becomes the 2-parter, allowing more time to examine that Luthor dynamic.  Good-bye Redux.
S3: Perry becomes the 2-parter, allowing for more Michael McKean.  Good-bye Magnetic.
S4: Unsafe becomes the 2-parter, allowing 3 eps for Alicia, which would've made for a more interesting Calicia arc.  Good-bye Recruit.
S5:  Solitude becomes the 2-parter, allowing for a much bigger build-up to the reveal of Braniac, and more time for a fight.  Good-bye Lockdown.
S6: Nemesis becomes the 2-parter, with a much longer struggle for survival from Clex.  Adios Trespass (yes, I know I said I hated Static more, but Trespass just has no real reason to exist).
S7: Traveler becomes the 2-parter, allowing more focus on Clark's ordeal, getting Kara out of the mansion, and the psychological aftereffects on Clark.  Sayonara Sleeper (or Hero).

3 characters come back:

1. Lex Luthor, who reappears in 8 x 21, healthy and whole, but seemingly with no memory of Clark's secret....or maybe not? ;)
2. Martha Kent, comes back to SV in 8 x 20 to stay, deciding that swimming with political sharks was a fun thing to try, but not how she wants to live the rest of her life.
3. General Sam Lane, for a few eps in a row, to have a good arc, because Michael Ironside rocks the house!
Honorable Mention:  Michael McKean's Perry White and Kyle Gallner's Bart

S9's Big Bad:

Inter-Gang, headed by Morgan Edge, Jr.

New JLA'er:

Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman.

I'll have to think about this...

Interesting idea for a time killer, but I actually have a story update to finish so if I do this it will be because I'm avoiding writing...

LOL!

Wow I really have to think about this. I always find it so difficult to say which episode is my favorite of SV I guess this is an excuse to dig out the DVD's lol. I'm going to try to answer this cause it's interesting.

1.Splinter - Tom's acting was breathtaking..I liked the plot
2.Nemesis - I liked the way Clark and Lex helped each other and the fact that Lex still trying to fight the darkness inside of him.
3.Vengeance - I cried in the whole ep...It's really amazing
4.Committed - Clois at last!
5.Trancference - I've waited for an episode like this one for a long time...TW's performance was amazing, I wanted to see him like the bad guy (not RED-K bad)

Bottom 3 ep

1.Sleeper - I don't even remember Tom playing in this one!LOL
2.Tomb
3.Kinetic
I just didn't liked the plot in the other two

3 awesome ep except for.....

1.Vessel - I loved it except for the scene where Lana went to Lex to tell him that she wants to be with him when the whole world went crazy. Sounds really odd.
2.Hydro - Another AMAZING ep but i didn't like the scene where Lana confronts Chloe because she protected Clark's secret one more time.
3.I loved the "hidden" ep but I find rediculous the fact that Lana gave to Lex Clark's results to convice him that he's normal!Come on!

3lousy/boring or mediocre episodes with a great scene

1.Cure - mediocre ep..I liked the scene where Clark tried to change Chloe's mind about the surgery. "you're gonna forget me" twice!
2.Noir - BORING! but we saw many Clark identities! Geek-the hottie-and secretely police officer
3.Freak - mediocre ep but I loved the Chlark scene. Clark x-rayed and burned Chloe!

3 overrated eps

1.Unsafe - a lot of hotness in this ep
2.Combat - I like the way SV ahow us how angry Clark was and how dangerous he could be.
3.Exodus - The whole episode was AMAZING. One of the best season finales

3 underrated eps

1.Toxic - I like Oliver but I think that SV could find sth more interesting to make an ep about him
2.Static
3.Suspect
the scenario in the last two was just boring for me

For each season (and you can include S8 up to this point), make one episode a 2-parter, and eliminate one episode altogether. How would you expand the episode into a 2-parter, and why did you get rid of the one you discarded?

I'm sorry I have no idea what to do! I can't think of any episode that I would get rid a big part of it and make it a 2part episode

3 characters from the past.

1.Alicia Baker -just for one episode- This episode would be like how things would turn out if Clark didn't make the same choices he did about the women in his life. All of them (chloe,Lana,Lois,Alicia)He will realize which reality makes him happier!
2.Desiree Atkins - She escaped from the prison she was into the way she knows the best! She sedused some police officers and now she is out to finish what she started. Steal Lex's money!
3.Ryan - I don't know how but I loved that actor, he was amazing! Maybe he could show up in Clark's dreams to remind him that he told him that he wouldn't give up on Lex!

A new Big Bad
I have no idea! Maybe MR will return because he likes the way SV changed and we will have Clark Kent Vs Lex Luthor
Don't tell anyone but I would like to see an ep that sth will make Clark go crazy(i don't know what would that be) and he will be against mankind!LOL

I don't know what to answer in your last question...Maybe because of my English!!

Totally picking and choosing questions, because some of them require more thought than I can come up with right now. >.>

What are your top 3 (or 5, if you are feeling ambitious and verbose) episodes of SV, and why?
Blank, Perry, Exile, Crusade and Unsafe. Why? Because Clark is adorable in all of them. :D? Seriously, that's the excuse for Blank. Perry is all Michael McKean, who played the part to comedic perfection for the tone of the episode. Exile and Crusade for being able to see other sides of Clark that still exist in him somewhere deep down. Lastly, Unsafe for the Clalicia.

What are your bottom 3 (or 5) episodes of SV, and why?
Sacred, definitely, although frankly, it's gotten better over the times I've seen it. I really didn't mind the whole witch plot of S4, but the China aspect was just way too over the top for me. Sleeper was just dull. I don't really think it was as horrific as people think, but it's not one I care to rewatch unless I need to check something. I suppose I'll go with the likely masses and say Promise, but mainly because it was pointless in the end.

What 3 episodes do you consider really awesome, except for.....? Meaning eps that have that one scene, or line, or plot twist that really threw you out of it.
I don't really have many of these. The "Clark sees Lana for the 'first time' at the Talon" scene in Blank always throws me, but it doesn't ruin the episode. Again, way too over the top. I know this show is in no way subtle, but that was ridiculous. I won't go with the likely masses and say Labyrinth because honestly, the ending never bothered me and still doesn't.

What 3 lousy/boring or mediocre episodes have this really great scene/scenes? Whats the scene?
Pick any episode not in my top 5, and there'll be at least one scene I adore.

What are your 3 more overrated episodes? Your 3 most underrated episodes? And why?
Overrated: Justice - Not that I don't like it or that it isn't a great episode, but looking back, it's not all I thought it was when it first aired. Phantom - Too much going on and not enough of it was the Clark-Bizarro fight. Thirst - It's a flat out below mediocre episode, and no amount of "iconic" Chloeness is going to change that.

Underrated: Eh, to me, probably all of S1.

If there's a S9, its going to need a new Big Bad. Who is it?
To be completely honest, I think Brainiac is already The Villain of the series, so if they don't do away with him completely in S8, I'd like to see James back to finish him off properly in S9. Of course, I'd also like to see Lex get his due and really take the last step as well.

If another future JLA member was introduced, who would you choose, and how would you introduce them? And since this is just for fun here, you have NO restrictions.
I'm so biased, but Diana, no questions asked. Personally, I think Odyssey was the perfect opportunity: Clark could have washed up on Themyscira and she could have helped him get back home. That way, she could have either stayed from the start, or returned part way through the season. At this point, though, I think it's too late; she needs to be a recurring character, not a two or three episode arc-er.

Great answers. Thanks for playing. I see that you didn't touch that "2-parter, drop one" question. I figured that was going to be a hard one. I hope someone decides to tackle it though.

And I love your answer about S1 being underrated. I so agree with you. I think S1 is magical.

Okay, I'll play, but don't hold me to these answers, because they're completely off the cuff, without me perusing my episode lists or anything.

Top 3 is really tough, because come on, there have been 160+ episodes! I always have to say the Pilot, it introduces the characters so perfectly, and it's visually stunning, and I never get tired of watching it. Transference, both because Tom is so awesome in it, and because it's so entertaining. I loved the insights it gave us into both Lionel and Lex, and it continues to fuel fantasies of Tom on the big screen every time I watch it. [Splinter and Labyrinth have great acting from Tom, too, but they're so serious I don't find myself rewatching them nearly as often.] And this season's Identity. I thought Tom was wonderful in it, I liked what all the characters were doing, and I loved seeing Clark realize the hope he could bring to the world. Plus Tom looked drop dead gorgeous in it!

Honorable mention to Hug, Leech, Onyx, Apocalypse, and Bride.

Bottom 3? Ageless, because in spite of the adorableness of Tom with kids, the story is stupid and I just don't care. Hypnotic, because it creeps me out to see Clark going for it because he's hypnotized. *shudders* Promise, because I don't ever want to see my Superman beg another man's pregnant wife to run away with him.

Dishonorable mention to Suspect, Resurrection, Velocity, Static, and Hero.

3 good episodes with a bad scene? Blank. One of my favorite episodes, but I hate the scene where Clark is instantly transfixed by Lana. That doesn't make sense to me, and I think that should only happen with Lois. Unsafe. Even though Tom breaks my heart with his acting in it, and is beautiful beyond belief as well, I hate the scene where Martha rages at Clark for marrying Alicia. He doesn't deserve that, and it's OOC for Martha, IMO. Labyrinth, which I love, love, love except for the part where Clark realizes he's still in love with Lana.

3 bad episodes with a good scene?

Tom with the baby in Ageless. Oh. My. God. Sacred. Shirtless Lex and Jason in chains. Nuff said. :) Sleeper. The episode is completely made of WTF, but watching Allison Mack in the dance scene is glorious.

3 overrated episodes? I think I'm too much of a fangirl to come up with anything for this one. I tend to like most episodes more than everyone else, not less. I honestly love most of them, including ones that other people really hate, like Spell.

3 underrated episodes? Jinx. This is an episode I think a lot of people find forgettable, or even bad, but I watch it over and over. I think it's a turning point for both Clark and Lex, Clark because he acts independently and in opposition to his father's wishes, and Lex because we see how effortlessly he has stepped into his father's shoes. Plus we have an awesome scene of Clark using his powers, and Tom looks gorgeous throughout the episode. Tomb. This episode makes a lot of people's list of worst episodes, but I thought Allison Mack was amazing in it. I enjoy it for her performance, for the Chlark friendship, and for the Chlo-Lo. Noir. People usually just talk about how pretty this episode was, and the ratings for it were pretty low, but I thought the cast and crew did a fabulous job of creating the AU.

As for bringing characters back, I would definitely get Martha back from Washington immediately, and have her once again take a primary role in Clark's life. I would bring back Perry and have him made editor-in-chief at the DP. And of course I would bring back Lex. But only if the original actors could play all three. I know those are unimaginative answers, sorry.

And I don't know enough about the JLA to answer that one, but if there are no restrictions, I'd have to say Batman, right? :)

Great post, Val. I loved thinking about all the questions you raised, and I'm really interested to see what everyone else says.

Hey, answers off the top of your head are very often the most honest. They come from the gut!

So, you passed on the "2-parter, drop 1" question too, eh? I guess that one was a bit of a challenge.

I love that you don't think any of the eps were overrated. Thats awesome.

Not too many of our answers overlap, but you definitely had me nodding in agreement.

These are great questions, I hope you don't mind my opinion.

What are your top 3 (or 5, if you are feeling ambitious and verbose) episodes of SV, and why?

Just about any episode where Clark learns something about his secret or gets to share is secret with a friend/loved one takes my interest. But the episode that I feel is the best of them all is Lineage. After that Rosetta, Pilot, Commencement & Arrival.

What are your bottom 3 (or 5) episodes of SV, and why?

Slumber bored me to no end and looked silly. Hero because I disliked what they did to Pete, the effect of the truck loading, and the over abundance of Stride gum. Noir bores me. I can't figure it out to this day. Sleeper belongs on this list, but I don't think it was as bad as people make it out to be.

What 3 episodes do you consider really awesome, except for.....?

Bound because I really don't feel that Lex is like that, I sort of felt they hurt his character a little here. Traveler except they made the guy a little too nutty and awkward. If he had been more normal, I think the episode would have been a lot more poignant. Crimson because it started out so fun and it ended so sadly.

What 3 lousy/boring or mediocre episodes have this really great scene/scenes? Whats the scene?

Tomb has a lousy plot I can't follow, but I love the Chlark scenes a whole lot. Clark's face when Lois tells him that Chloe tried to kill herself makes my heart drop. Scare is one I don't watch a lot, but I get caught up in the fears of the characters. Spell because I enjoy watching it with the commentary. It's definitely a must see for a SV fan.

What are your 3 more overrated episodes? Your 3 most underrated episodes? And why?

Bizarro because I couldn't follow the plot at the time. Devoted because I dislike Chloe so far out of character. Transference is great fun, but I dislike the stones arc and guest character sort of steals the show.

Jinx is a favorite of mine. I like the Chlark action and partnership of course, and Chloe sort of figures things out that things are different with Clark. Justice because it was hero work! Hourglass because Clark showed as a little of his inner thoughts.

For each season (and you can include S8 up to this point), make one episode a 2-parter, and eliminate one episode altogether. How would you expand the episode into a 2-parter, and why did you get rid of the one you discarded?

I would like to have seen more Odyssey in season 8. One can get rid of Toxic for the two parter. I want an explanation on how Oliver, Chloe, and Lois got out of Black Creek minus one Clark Kent and no questions?? Toxic can go, because it doesn't seem to have any relevance to this season so far. If you get rid of anything else, you'll have bigger holes in canon.

Who are you bringing back, and how will you explain their reappearance? For how long are you bringing them back?

I'm not a huge Lex fan, but I'd bring Lex back in heartbeat. Also, Gabe Sullivan because I'd just like to know where he's been? I guess after that I'd like to see Martha Kent or if Jonathan Kent for a AU guest appearance.

I've been thinking more and more about Helen Brice (can't remember her last name) too.

I'm skipping the season 9 questions for length.

eta: I got Hereafter and Hourglass confused. It's over 150 episodes. I guess names blend after a while.

Ya know, feel free to revisit the S9 questions at any time, at a later date :)

It was really hard for me to leave The Pilot off of my favorite list. Its almost in a class all by itself.

I also believe Jinx is an underrated episode. I think its a very strong episode, and I liked Trent Ford's take on that character. I would enjoy seeing him back on the show.

OK, I'm bored too, so here I go:

Top 5: I'll be shamelessly shallow and go with the episodes I rewatch the most: Transference, Exile, Crusade, Unsafe and Devoted. I have a fascination for Devoted because Tom looks devastatingly beautiful in it and also we see Clark manipulating Chloe and Lex, unconciously I believe. Don't get me wrong, I love Clark's flaws as much as his qualities. When Chloe declares her love to Clark and he tells her that he doesn't feel the same; he then decides to stay at the Torch and gives Chloe a kiss on the cheek. I think he did that because he was afraid to lose her friendship after rejecting her love; so he wanted to stay around. And of course, when Clark goes to see Lex and accepts his apologies and in the same sentence, he's asking for a favor.
Bottom 3 eps: Promise is at the very bottom for the near destruction of Clark's character. Crimson because Clark 1- kidnaps a pregnant engaged woman and forces a kiss on her; 2- Clark crashes the engagement party: many people loved the scene but I found the idea of it pathetic; 3- Lex and Clark, 2 bigger-than-life characters, fighting for Lana in the barn?? She's so not worthy! And I think I'm one of the few who didn't think the Clois scenes were that great, even though I have nothing against the pairing.
Finally, Trespass is one creepingly boring episode.

Awesome eps except for...
On the top of my head, I don't know, but every time someone is apologizing to Lana, or Lana is complaining that the other is lying or disappointing her for some reason, I just reach for the fastforward button of my remote.
Lousy ep except for a great scene: once again, being super-shallow, I think of Façade; the dunk scene at the end is the only one worth watching for me in that ep!

Most overrated episodes: Definitely Justice. They promoted the hell out of that ep, and Clark just looked bad and the story was a very conventional and uninteresting rescue story. So totally not worth the hype.
Nicodemus: because the spore-shooting flower is the exact same plot device as in "This side of Paradise", an ep from the original Star Trek series.

Most underrated eps: Hourglass: the Cassandra story line is compelling; Combat: the MC is absolutely delirious, the fight sequences are awesome, the ambiance of the fight club was fantastic and after Promise, we really needed something crude to wash that dump with.
And OK. I'll say Spell. Because, with the commentaries, it reaches cult episode status to me. It's like watching the Rocky Horror Picture Show or Plan 9 from Outer Space. It has some of the cheesiest and funniest scenes of the series: Clark dancing; the pink lettering "midnight, the barn" while Clark is holding Jason in his arms, and many more! LOL

Bringing back 3 characters from the past: I'll be obvious: Jonathan, Martha and Lex. Whenever I watch episodes with Jonathan in it, I realized how much the show misses him. He was such a strong character, despite all his flaws.

New Baddie and JL member: I don't know the comics so I have no idea. In fact, I think we see too many of those already so I don't really want to see more. Well; I would take more Bart and MM.

I did consider putting Promise in my bottom episodes, but as much as I hate the storyline, I have to give props to the way the episode was constructed and directed. And TW and MR are both very good, as is JG.

I also think Devoted is a really fun episode, and Tom is just breathtaking in it. And its such a colorful, sunny episode too. And funny.

Its interesting to see answers from a mainly Lois perspective. Because going strictly by her character, Lucy & Recruit were episodes that did say a lot about her story. I just wished they were better eps all around. I always thought Lucy was a character they should bring back.

I'd be happy with Inter-Gang being the main threat, but with James Marsters also showing up again as Brainiac. And I'd never say no to a return of Lex Luthor.

Its interesting to see how many of us consider Justice overrated.

Okay, I had to come back to comment on your answers. :)

I love all your top episodes. I agree, the beginning of S5 was awesome. And while I always liked Vengeance, it resonates with me on a whole new level since I lost my dad.

I can't argue with your bottom episodes, either. Abyss is my least favorite episode of the season so far (I said to get rid of Toxic, though, because significant stuff happens in Abyss). The funny part is that the SHoE guys said Abyss was the best episode of S8. They were completely over the moon about it.

That scene at the end of Fierce between Lex and Kara was so good! It was the return of the real Lex, after watching the emasculated version mourn Lana and then tell her how wonderful she was. I celebrated that scene, and watched it about 10 times in a row the night it aired. Great song, too.

I love reading your thoughtful consideration of the episodes, about what happened, what should have happened, where the show succeeded, and failed, and why. You open my eyes. I am always humbled by complex analysis of the show, because while I consider myself to be an intelligent person, my viewing experience rarely takes me there. I'm much more about the fangirl squee and the escape from RL than the meta, I'm afraid.

I'd love to see Bart come back, too, and I'm all for Inter-Gang. And Wonder Woman seems to be a popular choice. The fanboys would like her, too, I'm sure. ;)

And speaking of S9, in all fairness to the show, doesn't Tom have to make a decision about that soon?

To me, the first 3 eps of S5 were the strongest trio the show has ever done.

Like you, Vengeance is an episode that particularly resonated with me due to the loss of my father. And TW's performance is so lovely.

The funny part is that the SHoE guys said Abyss was the best episode of S8. They were completely over the moon about it.

Are they big Chloe fans? Because I guess I could see that, considering how much she was on screen, and you had 3 guys falling all over themselves to help her. But outside of that, I don't see what would be so great about that episode. I would also have put that in the overrated category.

Personally, I think the decision is likely made on a S9 between all parties involved. I'm just not sure when we'll know what the verdict is.

I'm leaving my comment before I read your answers because I don't want them to influence my responses. :-)
I'm not very good at answering these questions- big surprise!

What are your top 3 (or 5, if you are feeling ambitious and verbose) episodes of SV, and why?
It's really hard for me to pick favorites when I consider so many my "favorite" but for different reasons, but I'll try.
In no particular order:
1)Mortal- I like this episode because for most of it, Clark is very happy and carefree and Clark and Lana are cute together.
2)Obsession- The hotness and again, Clark is actually happy for a little while.
3)Crusade- A good season premiere, Action-packed.
4)Slumber- the fact that this episode has an R.E.M. soundtrack is part of why I like it, but I just really like this episode. I can't explain it.
5)Identity- Another good, important episode for Clark.
6)Blank- I always forget about this episode, but it might actually be my favorite. Isn't that weird?

What are your bottom 3 (or 5) episodes of SV, and why?
I think with most of these episodes it will be obvious why I don't like them. In no particular order:
1)Sleeper
2)Static
3)Trespass
4)Hero
5)Void

What 3 episodes do you consider really awesome, except for.....? Meaning eps that have that one scene, or line, or plot twist that really threw you out of it.
I could only really come up with one example for this and that's Labyrinth. I was so sure that the end of this episode was going to be when Clark declared his love for Chloe, but "I still love Lana." Ugh!

What 3 lousy/boring or mediocre episodes have this really great scene/scenes? Whats the scene?
My mind is drawing a blank for this one too.

What are your 3 more overrated episodes? Your 3 most underrated episodes? And why?
Justice was a good episode but I don't think it was the most super fantastic episode ever.
I think that Subterranean, Rage, and maybe Wither are underrated episodes.
It's interesting that all of these episodes are from Season 6. Hmmm...

OK, now lets get more creative:

For each season (and you can include S8 up to this point), make one episode a 2-parter, and eliminate one episode altogether. How would you expand the episode into a 2-parter, and why did you get rid of the one you discarded?
I'm just not good at this! I would say that any of the season premieres or finales could be expanded into 2 parts. My least favorite episodes that I listed above could all be removed.

For the remaining SV episodes left (whether that just be the remainder of this season, or an entire S9), you can bring back 3 characters from the past. Whether they be alive or dead. Who are you bringing back, and how will you explain their reappearance? For how long are you bringing them back?

I don't see any story-related reason why Martha Kent couldn't return for a visit. Or at least they could have her call on the phone and show her in D.C.
I would also love to see Perry White return but it just wouldn't be the same if it wasn't Michael McKean. However, I would rather have Perry White return with a different actor than not return at all.

If there's a S9, its going to need a new Big Bad. Who is it?
I have no idea! I don't think I know enough about the DC World to answer that.

If another future JLA member was introduced, who would you choose, and how would you introduce them? And since this is just for fun here, you have NO restrictions.

I accidentally saw that your answer to this question was Wonder Woman and I like that idea. :-)

Sorry I wasn't able to go into as much detail as you were asking for...:-/

You did great. Silly girl!

I think Mortal is a very good episode, and is the most underrated of the S5 opening arc. The barn building scene is just gorgeous.

I also think Subterranean is underrated. Or, maybe its just judged too harshly. I get that it has major flaws, and the moleman farmer was sort of lame. But was it really so bad? I don't think so.

I think I would just really like to see Clark and Diana Prince interact. Too bad I never will :(

Hmmm...I'll have to think about the 2 parter question.

I hope you will, because your answers were so much fun! Especially that we have 3 fav eps in common. :P

Awwww, Maddie. I'd like to know how she's doing as well. Ya know, I would put Fragile as an underrated episode, if only due to the total love that was Claddie!

Totally agree with you on Rush being overrated. And Hypnotic is a truly odious episode, with Lex's actions being totally revolting, and yet oddly ignored by many fans. Its always rubbed me wrong.

I had to separate in two parts sorry.
Ok here I go. These are such good questions and I really needed to get think-y :-) My head hurts now ;-)

Top 3:

Pilot: Seems like an obvious answer and imo it's not the best episode of SV but it establishes so much for the show. The Kents, Clark's loneliness and heroism, the iconic meeting of Lex Luthor and Clark Kent. So much happens in this hour.

Rosetta:The first time on SV you hear the word "Krypton" and Clark finds out where he comes from. Some questions answered and new questions posed. Whenever I hear people saw that it's possible that Tom can act now (for some that will never happen but I digress...) but couldn't back then I think of this episode. The layers upon layers on his face when his origins are first revealed. There's little dialogue but he expresses so much.

Apocalypse: This one is just straight up awesome for me because I'm a fangirl. And I love Superman period. From the iconic suit and glasses, Welling's shout out to Christopher Reeve from pushing up his glasses with his middle finger, Lois getting in trouble, and what?! Welling directing this! I was in heaven!

Bottom 3:

Craving: This episode is just disgusting and I think the writers were attempting to talk about teenage issues of bulimia etc but they failed miserably.

Hero:Bringing Sam Jones III to basically be product placement guy. Geez show give the dude a break. I get that they need to do product placement hell Supernatural does it all the time (Hello Verizon!) but this was just blatant.

Recruit: This episode just pisses me off beyond words Alicia dies and then the next eppy Clark's all "la, la, life is great." WTF

Awesome, except for.....?

Obsession: I love me some Alicia. And I loved that Clark found a very pretty girl who like him back to spend time with. She was cute, sassy, and smart. But then she goes psycho jealous and tries to kill Lana. Puh-lease.

Labyrinth: I truly love this episode, Clark being stuck in his own mind, the little in jokes like jor-el soap. But the ending when Lana looks back. God Clark you missed the whole point.

Lexmas: Ok I love AU's so there but I don't get what the whole point of bringing Lex's mom was and then just to have Lex go all Anakin Skywalker no one will ever die. I hated that.

3 lousy/boring or mediocre episodes have this really great scene/scenes...

Thirst:The episode's concept as whole is pretty bad. Krypto-Vampires Huh? but there's one scene that always makes me smile. When Clark and Chloe show up in costume. And Clark's wearing the Zorro costume and Chloe's wearing her Britney outfit. So cute. I love that Clark is flirting with girls and isn't all "Oh no teh boobies!' and the cape anvil was cute.

Hothead: Mr. Arnold going crazy. Abusive football coaches yeah whatever. The ending scene though gets me every time. Clark and Lana screaming in the middle of the football field it's such a kid thing to do and such a sweet scene. Such a nice moment in their friendship.

Promise: I hate this episode. I truly do Clark and Lex are so very pathetic but there's three things that this episode did that I'll always remember first the use of music was brilliant. The ironic use of music the sad song at the beginning the happy one at the end. Kudos music guys and then two scenes both Lana-centric. Her dream which is a remembered memory of when Clark saved her in Tempest. It made me wonder how much Lana repressed and the way the coloring was changed was stunning. The second scene was Lana's P.O.V. of Clark getting Chloe out of the wine cellar. By now I'm sure Lana knew but when you see this guy pulling heavy steel doors, welding it shut with his eyes, and disappearing in the wink of an eye it has to be overwhelming. We as a viewer are privy to Clark running fast but I believe this is the first time you truly see it from another character's perspective. It's like he teleported.

Part Deux
Overrated:

I only have one I do love SV so much. Any way. Justice this one was definitely for the fanboys. I for one did not enjoy them blowing up the building real good. I didn't get the point and Oliver was such a jerk I could not wait for him to leave.

Underrated:

Splinter:Tom Welling's performance during this episode was amazing. The progression of his paranoia is done so subtly. Tom can act and I won't let anyone tell me different.

Noir: I guess a lot of fandom found this eppy boring but I didn't. I love it for all it's wonderful visuals, stylistic touches, and keeping true to the Noir spirit. When Clark says "There are no heroes in Metropolis." at the end I squeed.

Traveler: Clark gets kidnapped and tortured by some psycho. And you know what Clark's a badass. Lionel's losing it which was one of my favorite story lines and and then at the end with Patricia Swann. The awe which she spoke to Clark amazed that he's a simple farmer and you can see Clark's almost there...Almost ready.

For each season (and you can include S8 up to this point), make one episode a 2-parter, and eliminate one episode altogether. How would you expand the episode into a 2-parter, and why did you get rid of the one you discarded?

This question was difficult I'm only going to mention a couple of episode from the top of my head.

Season 4:

Make Pariah a two-parter so there's actual aftermath and get rid of Recruit. I still can't believe that whole Alicia thing was forgotten.

Season 7:

Traveler/Veritas: either of these. As much as I loved these eppys I felt they were rushed and get rid of Hero such a waste of an eppy.

3 Characters:

01.Martha: I need resolution damn it. As much as I think it's in character that Martha would leave I do think her abandonment of Clark seems too much. Martha is a mom who really wanted her child we need to see why she would just up and leave and never call the kid.

02.Perry:Bring him back make him awesome. He doesn't need to be editor right this second but I'd like to see if he's back being the Perry White of old.

03.Bart a.k.a. Lil'Flash a.k.a. Impulse: I love this kid and he's so fun and makes Clark cut loose also Clark needs male friends that aren't billionares.

S9's Big Bad:

Maybe Mongol they've introduced aliens already between the kryptonians, Martian Manhunter, and now Maxima so how about Mongol yo.

JLA Member:

Wonder Woman? Blue Beetle? Booster Gold? Fire? Ice? Batman? I have no idea. I'd like to see the OG Green Lantern Alan Scott though. Old School Alan Scott was a journalist in Metropolis maybe he can have drinks with Clark but really that's it no grandstanding Alan you got it respect the Clark. :-)

Re: Part Deux
I'm having so much fun with these answers. I'm so happy to see so much thought put into the this. Its funny, I see some commonalities, but then everyone seems to throw in their own curve ball. Its cool!

Craving is a gross episode, but I thought Amy Adams really gave a very sincere, sympathetic performance. And look where she is now.

The end of Hothead is a very charming scene. Ditto for the last scene on the windmill in Nicodemus. In S1, Clana seemed to have several really sweet, friendship moments.

I know nothing about Mongol. Whats he like?

This is my third comment back to back but I have to comment since you've posted your answers now. Such great answers by the way.

I commented to tariel I forgot about Transference that's such a great ep and I have to re-watch Vengeance all I remember is Clark in the black hoodie lol.

Lockdown is the only episode of Smallville I have never re-watched I hated it so much the first time around and no amount of oh hey Clark's hair is going to make me want to watch it. I hate when Lex is the woobie. I truly do.

Crimson The Mionel why did the writers dangle that storyline and then do nothing with it. Ugh yet another story line that they could have worked with.

By the way your 2 parter answers are brilliant I had such a hard time with those but I really like your answers.

General Sam Lane, for a few eps in a row, to have a good arc, because Michael Ironside rocks the house!

Word on this one.

I think Vengeance is an episode that gets a bit lost because it follows Reckoning.

I'm so glad that there's someone else out there that hates Lockdown as much as I do. I remember telling Stephen DeKnight just what I thought of it on his MySpace page (as politely as I could). I don't recall him ever replying, LOL

Great choices. And I totally could watched Tom play Clionel for another episode in S4. He was so magnificent.

I liked Raya too. She's one of those characters that really should've stuck around a bit longer. I feel very much the same way about Patricia Swann. And this season, I woudn't have minded another episode of Maxima.

One of the reasons I can't really like Arctic is because Clark never really gets a voice in the FOS confrontation with Lex. That was so frustrating.

What are your top 3 (or 5, if you are feeling ambitious and verbose) episodes of SV, and why?

I KNOW I'm going to forget something here. But that list would definitely include "Insurgence," which I thought was definitely one of those really heroic episodes, and "Rosetta" of course, which was one of those first times I truly felt I was watching a show about Superman.

There are many others that I'm sure would land on a list somewhere, some of which are pretty underrated by most of the fandom. Season 1's "Cool" has always been a favorite, I think because every character was put to good use. "Tempest" was one of the best if not the best when it comes to SV season finales. I love the comic book inspired episodes, especially something like "Run." "Crusade," "Exile," "Transference," "Vengeance," "Covenant," "Hug," "Commencement," "Memoria," "Shattered"...there's a lot on my list.

What are your bottom 3 (or 5) episodes of SV, and why?

I'm sure "Ageless" would definitely land on my list, but "Hypnotic" was, to me, much worse - especially since it was really the beginning of badness for that season. I remember really hating "Magnetic" when it was on and I don't think I've watched it again since. So, there are three right there. Though I just realized I failed to mention "Quest," which not only was a confusing mess, it also ruined the unseen character of Edward Teague. I love the Holographic Doctor and all, but no way he + Dr. Quinn would make a Dean Winchester.

What 3 episodes do you consider really awesome, except for.....? Meaning eps that have that one scene, or line, or plot twist that really threw you out of it.

"Descent" would've been great if not for the St. Lionel type talk. The original version of "Veritas" would have been incredible too, and would have spared us from "Sleeper." But that original version - with Clark attempting to fly, Lex killing Lionel, and all of that at a breakneck pace - would've been great. I think "Reckoning" could have been better too if they had killed Jonathan in a way that did not involve a reset button.

What 3 lousy/boring or mediocre episodes have this really great scene/scenes? Whats the scene?

"Redux" with Principal Asskick. "Exposed" with Bo and Luke. (yes I'm a dork) And some of the dreams in "Slumber."

What are your 3 more overrated episodes? Your 3 most underrated episodes? And why?

Overrated?
"Prodigy." I like Lynda Carter but the episode bored me.
"Arctic." All that buildup to.. what, exactly?
"Tomb." I didn't see the point.

Underrated?
"Cool." I just like this one for some reason.
"Thirst." This one gets a bum rap. This episode KNEW it was crap, and that's what made it fun.
"Vengeance." In many ways, this was better than "Reckoning," and unlike "Reckoning," the ending of this one made me cry.

and more since there was a character limit...
OK, now lets get more creative:

For each season (and you can include S8 up to this point), make one episode a 2-parter, and eliminate one episode altogether. How would you expand the episode into a 2-parter, and why did you get rid of the one you discarded?

Season 1: "Tempest" becomes the 2-parter, with more going on with the dance and the tornado. I'd lose "Reaper."

Season 2: "Prodigal" for this one - I'd add an episode worth of searching for Lucas rather than the sudden "Whoop, he's here!" we got. Cut "Dichotic." (wasn't that Season 2? It runs together now...)

Season 3: I'd probably split "Asylum" to give more time to the returning villains. Cut "Velocity."

Season 4: "Commencement" could've been good for two episodes. For that, I'd cut "Ageless."

Season 5: Not that I'd want "Splinter" to be extra long but I think they really could have used more of Fine-as-Professor. I'd cut "Recruit."

Season 6: "Justice" really, really should have been a 2-parter. I'll cut "Trespass."

Season 7: "Veritas" as a 2-parter, though, the strike really did mess with that. Cut "Sleeper," please.

For the remaining SV episodes left (whether that just be the remainder of this season, or an entire S9), you can bring back 3 characters from the past. Whether they be alive or dead. Who are you bringing back, and how will you explain their reappearance? For how long are you bringing them back?

1. Perry White to bring back the greatness of the Daily Planet.
2. Martha Kent so Clark doesn't forget that he has a mother.
3. Bart so my buddy Kyle can give me the scoop.

If there's a S9, its going to need a new Big Bad. Who is it?

Zod, played by Sam Witwer.
Or, if this is my dream world, Lex Luthor, played by Michael Rosenbaum. ;p

If another future JLA member was introduced, who would you choose, and how would you introduce them? And since this is just for fun here, you have NO restrictions.

Bruce Wayne really should be it, and I'd probably write/treat him as if the "Bruce Wayne" TV series had happened the same time as Smallville so he's had that much development. You know, one of the things I did like about the Graysons project was the thought/idea that Dick Grayson might show on SV, so I'd be cool with that too.

Re: and more since there was a character limit...
I think what really bothered me about Hypnotic, more then the awfulness of the episode itself, was that AlMiles described it as "fun" and "sexy". Thats really disturbing to me. And I totally agree with you about what a mess Quest was. Not to mention gross.

I so wish we had been able to see the original version of Veritas, because it sounds like it would've been a great episode. There is no doubt in my mind that that episode was butchered due to the resolution of the writers strike, and I just don't think there was any reason for that.

I almost put the Bo & Luke stuff down for good stuff in a bad episode, so slide on over on that dork couch. JS & TW were great together. In fact, Wopat's character might be an interesting character to revisit.

Season 5: Not that I'd want "Splinter" to be extra long but I think they really could have used more of Fine-as-Professor. I'd cut "Recruit."

I think if Splinter had been a 2-parter, they would've had to slow down Clark's decline quite drastically, because he got dangerous really fast. But I would've loved to see Tom tackle that acting. And Recruit was S4.

Oh I can't answer all of those LOL

Characters I want back? Lex, Perry and some Martha cameos.

JLA members? I actually don't care. takes time away from Clark. Justice was disappointing to me.

New villain? I have been pleading for this villian forever because it's so easy to do and not intrusive: Inter-gang. Come on! It's perfect! We should have had them this year already...

I know what you mean about the JLA characters. When they first used Bart, he was used so well to develop Clark. But as time went on, they became less about Clark, and more about upstaging Clark, and they weren't as entertaining. Clark and Dinah barely interacted at all.

And Yay for another Intergang vote!!

What a great idea for a post. And hey, seems a lot of people were as bored. ;-)

//I always say its like watching a mini-movie. And the whole look and feel of Metropolis that was achieved was very impressive, as was the secondary plot of Lex on the island.//

ITA. This has to be amongst my faves too.

Your '2 parter' comments are very interesting. I've felt the same way about a lot of eps too, but now that you've actually articulated it, it seems such a waste, not actually having done some of these. I would have especially loved to see 'Traveler' as a 2 parter.

And I've said this before, but I agree, Intergang would be a very logical, viable option for S9.

As for my own answers, well you know me and my tendency to ramble on. So I'm afraid I might end up having to do this as a seperate post in my lj. But I'm looking forward to answering them and getting my SV thoughts up and running again. :-)
