Clex Blends -Picspam

God, how I've agonized over this one.  And I still feel like I left out about 50 moments I wish I could've included.  This was tough.  I think because Clex has so much subtext.  When I was doing Clana, more plays out right on the screen, in dialogue.  But Clex?  Its all in the subtle details.

I took tremendous artistic license for one particular cap.  You'll probably figure out which one.  Its either awesome, or just freaky.  I can't quite decide, LOL  But I really wanted to show the expressions of both of the boys, and how closely they mirror each other.   Also, I think I may have added a line or two of dialogue out of sequence because I liked it so much

So, without further delay.....

I could've sworn I hit you.
If you did, I'd be - I'd be dead
Type your cut contents here.

Unfortuntately, I had my share of legal problems when I was in Metropolis

She doesn't seem your type.

Relationships aren't always about love, Clark.  Sometimes they're about mutual goals.

I'm curious.  Why did you think I'd be willing to harbor a fugitive?
I figured my parents would freak.  And if I took him to a hospital, they'd put him back in jail.  You're the only one I could trust.

Hey Atticus...you may want to change your shirt

Just because your father has a problem doesn't mean he needs to ruin your life.
I wasn't aware that a two thousand dollar coat came with a backbone.  What's going on?

You're either with me or against me, Clark.  Choose right now

You know Clark, there is one thing I'll never forget.
What's that?
How important your friendship is to me.

Look, in my experiance, a person doesn't develop this kind of fixation unless she's been encouraged to think the relationship is more then just casual.
You're saying I led her on?
I'm saying I've been there.

Look, I'm willing to give this friendship another shot if you are.

After I drove my Porsche into the river, and you fished me out, I asked your dad if there was any way I could repay him.  What did he say that we always joke about?
Lex, what is this, a pop quiz?
Answer the question!
He told you to drive slower.

Maybe a year ago, I would've believed that you got him fired out of some twisted loyalty from being my friend.  But you didn't do this for me.  Why did you do it?

I bet you're going to be a great dad someday, Clark.
So will you, Lex.

I want you to listen to me very carefully.  Somethings happened to you.
Yeah, its been a revelation.

Lex, why is some state senate seat so important to you?
It's a stepping stone.
To what?
That's like Apollo asking Icarus why he's building wings.  Look Clark, you have everything that you've ever wanted.  I'm sorry if I'm still searching.

It's good to see you out and about, Lex.
You know, you actually sounded convincing when you said that.  I appreciate the civility.

Are we done?
Nothing left but the formalities.

You're the last person I thought would save me.

...I was wondering if you could help me with a reference.  You're the biggest Warrior Angel fan I know.
Was a fan.  I haven't picked up a comic since we were friends.  Back when I saw life as black and white.  When I realized that good and evil was grey, the stories lost their magic.

I didn't know it would only take a brush with death to see your softer side.
Trust me Lex, there's nothing lost that can't be found again.

I must admit Clark, this is a big step-up from the barn.

THE END...for now :)

Anytime I watch this show with someone new they always comment about the CLEX. It's so obvious lol.
Sep. 15th, 2008 12:30 am (UTC)
It really is. Its like a whole other show going on beneath the show you see...if that makes sense LOL
Sep. 15th, 2008 12:45 am (UTC)
Yeah it makes sense. I really think both Michael and Tom really played it up too. It was fun to watch.
Sep. 14th, 2008 10:20 pm (UTC)
This is an awesome job! Really impressive! Thanks so much for this intense picspam!
Sep. 15th, 2008 12:31 am (UTC)
You're welcome. I'm glad you liked it :)
Sep. 14th, 2008 10:38 pm (UTC)
Fantastic picspam!
Sep. 15th, 2008 12:31 am (UTC)
Thanks :) I'm so glad people like it.
Sep. 14th, 2008 10:39 pm (UTC)
Lots of pretty. Thanks for posting it :D
Sep. 15th, 2008 12:32 am (UTC)
You're welcome. And there sure is a lot of pretty when it comes to the SV cast.
Sep. 14th, 2008 11:01 pm (UTC)
Amazing picspam...Really..
I want you to listen to me very carefully. Somethings happened to you. Clark: Yeah, its been a revelation.

I love that scene...Tom's acting was breathtaking!!
Sep. 15th, 2008 12:33 am (UTC)
Tom is absolutely amazing in Splinter. I wasn't sure if I wanted to include that cap, but it just seemed appropriate for the way their relationship was twisting at the time.
Sep. 14th, 2008 11:15 pm (UTC)
Eeeeee! These are so lovely: they are so gosh-dang beautiful together and I love your selection of quotes.

You're saying I led her on?
I'm saying I've been there.

Hee! It's the long contemplative silence that follows that really gets the point across!

Love how you've blended the "Asylum" 'caps - it looks like Lex is glomped on to Clark from behind and won't let go!
Sep. 15th, 2008 12:34 am (UTC)
I'm so glad you liked it. As always, I tried to pick things that were a bit different. But some classic moments I couldn't ignore.

And I'm glad you liked the Asylum blend. It was a risky choice, but one of the things I found while doing this picspam was how much the boys mirrored each other. Not always, but often. And that was such a perfect illustration of what I saw.
Sep. 14th, 2008 11:16 pm (UTC)
And . . . now I'm sitting here weeping.

Oh God, these two . . . they just destroy me. Seriously.

Very lovely caps, though! Hee!
Sep. 15th, 2008 12:36 am (UTC)
Oh no, not weeping :( But I'm glad that means you liked it. Michael & Tom did an amazing job of creating an unforgettable relationship, even when the scripts and storylines let them down.
Sep. 15th, 2008 12:50 am (UTC)
Just . . . seeing it from beginning to end like that . . . Lex's anguish at losing Clark, and Clark eventually giving up on his friend, even though a part of him might not want to . . . it's all just so heartbreaking, especially for someone like me, who really got emotionally invested in these two, especially Lex!
Sep. 15th, 2008 01:09 am (UTC)
I'm not sure I achieved it, but I think I started to develop a theme when choosing the caps for these 2. I wanted to highlight the back and forth between them. That underlying feeling that its never over, they're never done, and there will always be something between them. Its precisely why I choose that particular cap for the 2nd to last of the picspam. Nothing thats lost can't be found again. I love the sentiment for them. And just in general.
Sep. 14th, 2008 11:49 pm (UTC)
Wonderful! Thanks so much--I know this was tough to do!
Sep. 15th, 2008 12:37 am (UTC)
It really was tough. I wanted to capture so much, but ultimately, you have to give yourself a break and just accept that you can't really cover everything. Happy you liked it :)
Sep. 15th, 2008 12:01 am (UTC)
Ouch. In a good way. But ouch. And that hug from 'Asylum' always gets me. There are so many 'If only's with these two, aren't there?
Sep. 15th, 2008 12:38 am (UTC)
The Asylum hug was such a great moment because you can really see how the situation effected not just Lex, but Clark as well. People who say he didn't care about what happened just weren't watching the same show as me. End of story.
Sep. 15th, 2008 07:14 am (UTC)
I was just looking at this again, and the 'Tresspass' scene, always makes me sad. The clxy undertones, are hilarious and squee inducing, but the lines
"Are we done?"
"Nothing left but the formalities," just summed up their relationship at that point......until nemesis. But ohhh how that conversation was
Sep. 15th, 2008 12:01 am (UTC)
You did an amazing job! This was beautiful!
Sep. 15th, 2008 12:39 am (UTC)
Thank you so much. I really wanted to do right by them.
Sep. 15th, 2008 03:58 am (UTC)
God, they are so EPIC. Like, Jack and Rose on the Titanic, but sexier.

And the two-headed hydra one made me LOL, but in a very good way. :)
Sep. 15th, 2008 01:42 pm (UTC)
"Two-headed hydra"? Oh dear, I'm not sure thats what I was going for, LOL But as long as it effected you in a good way, thats the important part.

Just imagine what this show would've been like if they had written it with Clark and Lex as the central characters, and their relationship being the most important, for the run of the show. The mind boggles.
Sep. 15th, 2008 04:27 am (UTC)
*applauds wildly* Oh, Valerie, you've outdone yourself! It's all here, from start to finish! *sniffles* How will we live without this amazing, complicated relationship? So many of my favorite moments are here; your blends are gorgeous, and take me instantly back to each episode, to relive the emotion and the beauty of these boys together.

I have to talk about at least a few of my favorites. I love the one from the Pilot. It's destiny in the making, of course, but what I really like is how stunned both of them are by what has just transpired. They're beginning this journey on equal footing, at least as far as the relationship goes, and neither knows quite what to expect.

Then, in the early days, Clark is curious but never pushy about the past Lex has left behind in Metropolis, while Lex is always trying to give Clark the benefit of his experience without tarnishing his goodness by exposing him to the seamier side of life. And then all of a sudden, in Red, Clark is all caught up! And Lex is intrigued! :)

I think you already know how much I love that scene in Shattered where Clark chooses Lex. And that hug from Asylum (very cool blend!) is so poignant. It's never easy between these two. And neither is it ever over.

Clark's question to Lex at the end of Jinx is one of those in Smallville that they just leave hanging. I always want someone to say, "Hey, I asked you a question!" :) But the look on Clark's face is almost haunted. I think that's the moment where he finally understands how complex Lex's motivations are, and how carefully crafted his plans truly are. And that he has secrets, just as Clark himself does.

It's kind of sad how their faces get more serious as time goes on, as they're more and more weighed down by everything that has happened in their lives. And I think my favorite blend of all is the last one, just because it is so absolutely beautiful. *stares* And that line! Lex is sardonic to the end. There is so much intensity in that moment. Oh, boys. *cries*

Thank you so much for creating this wonderful tribute to Clark and Lex! All your hard work was worth it, because you've created something truly special. I simply love it.
Sep. 15th, 2008 01:49 pm (UTC)
I'm trying to see the bright side of the end of Clex onscreen. There is something to said for just leaving things the way they were, and knowing Lex is out there, and knowing that the future holds round-upon-round for these 2 interconnected men. Of course I could've watched 25 seasons of the 2 of them. But my brain is able to see the future for them, and I think its always going to be an emotional tug o'war. And I believe they will never, ever be over.

It's never easy between these two. And neither is it ever over.

Yes, exactly. And thats what I hoped to show.

Clark's question to Lex at the end of Jinx is one of those in Smallville that they just leave hanging

Choosing that moment was very specific. Because I think people are very quick to accuse Clark of just not giving Lex another chance in S4, or saying that he was still holding the CoCK against him, but forgetting that there were some dubious occurances between them that continued to fuel the rift. I think people forget that Lex initially let Clark take the heat for Jason's firing, and only stepped up and told Lana the truth later.

I thought about ending this picspam on the "I love you like a brother", but instead I decided to end it on that sarcastic line. Somehow, it just seemed to fit better.

I'm glad you loved it so much. This may have been a hard project, but its totally worth it if people get something out of it.

Sep. 15th, 2008 08:15 am (UTC)
Wow. I remembered all the episodes where the scenes come from. :D *is quite proud of herself*

I especially love that Transference scene, "Drive slower!" LOL.
Sep. 15th, 2008 01:51 pm (UTC)
Good for you! I worried about that, because I sort of went for the more obscure in some cases.

That Transference scene is so awesome. I especially love finding out that they joke about Jonathan.
Sep. 15th, 2008 09:36 am (UTC)
Ahhh you have such impeccable timing what with a Lexless Season 8 about to commence this week I think this relationship deserves to be memorialised via entries such as these (picspams, fics, fanvids it all works for me *g*)

This line here by Clark:
Trust me Lex, there's nothing lost that can't be found again.

Absolutely solidified my belief in my hope that one day (yes, yes never in the canon future but always in *my* SV canon future) these two will see their way clear to a friendship the likes of which we recall from the first couple of seasons.

Clark and Lex,Lex and Clark, no matter which way you say it it will always sound like a legendary friendship.

Thanks Valerie for taking the time to do this, a timely and unforgettably beautiful post.
Sep. 15th, 2008 01:53 pm (UTC)
I'm fully hoping to like this coming season, but I'm going to miss Lex and Clex. For me, I think the show should've always been about them, and their relationship.

I'm glad you liked the inclusion of that line. I felt it was important, because even by that point in the story, and after everything that happened, Clark can still say something like that to Lex. Even though he will vacillate on it, I think he'll always come back to "its not too late".

And you are very welcome.
Sep. 15th, 2008 10:04 am (UTC)
Gorgeous Picspam!!!
*sigh* Those boys are just oh, so pretty.
I miss the Clex! I miss the Subtext!
And I miss the glorious eye-fucks they used to share! *sniff*
Thanks for sharing these! XD
Sep. 15th, 2008 01:54 pm (UTC)
I miss the Clex too. I hope fanfic writers continue to fill in the blanks, and imagine a future for our boys. They will live on!!
Sep. 15th, 2008 11:29 am (UTC)
This was fantastic!!! I love the fact that you included the lines from the scenes as well.
The "great dad" pictures are adorable. The second picture of Tom where he's looking down is just too beautiful for words.
I could go on and on about each set of pictures. I love them all!
Thanks so much for doing this!
Sep. 15th, 2008 01:56 pm (UTC)
I really like the "great dad" line, because to me, could you see that to a person you've given up on? I don't think so.

And S1 Tom is such a thing of beauty. God, he was a pretty boy.

This has been a lot of fun (agonizing aside), but its so much more fun when people comment and really like it. So, thanks right back actha!
Sep. 15th, 2008 03:20 pm (UTC)
Oooh! I love the second and third pics of Clark! S1 Tom is just SO pretty and young! I am so jealous of guys with lush dark lashes. And those cheekbones and lips... No wonder Lex is all "Come here, you pretty young thing" in the 3rd pic. Hehe. Love the picspams (and the Clana one too - KK really was the only cast-member who rivalled TW in prettiness)!

Sep. 15th, 2008 04:20 pm (UTC)
Tom's eyelashes are ridiculous. Then again, I'm not sure there's any part of him that isn't ridiculously attractive. ;)

There are a lot of moments on SV that I really and truly felt that the show was, in fact, telling me that Lex was in love with Clark. And quite frankly, I think that element of the show really gave it an extra dimension.
Sep. 16th, 2008 01:27 am (UTC)
These were fabulous! Wow, you picked some fantastic scenes ... so purely Clex. I really love the Asylum hug ... it always tugs at my heart. Tom and Michael ... those two are just wonderful. THEY make the Clex real.

Wonderful job! Thanks for putting this together. It was fun to look at. :)
Sep. 16th, 2008 02:20 am (UTC)
I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I felt such responsibility to get them right, and represent them properly. Thats just how good the 2 of them were together.
Sep. 16th, 2008 05:55 pm (UTC)
This? Was great. Honestly, what a look back at some pretty amazing moments. I like that you've made these interesting choices - the one from 'Labyrinth' in particular. I know that scene is reviled by many as the restart of Clana, but looking at it purely from a Clex perspective, there's something that spoke to me even then, on first viewing, and even now. I can't pinpoint it, but it's just very poignant. I also love the "you're going to be a great dad" exchange. Aaaw.

My two favorites though are oddly from later seasons. Firstly the "are we done?" exchange. I remember that as standing out as one very powerful scene from a mostly very forgettable ep. That's the thing with Clex - if done well, they can be memorable even if awashed in a sea of mediocrity. Secondly, the "there's nothing lost that can't be found" from 'Fracture(?)' just gets me.every.single.time.

TW and MR just have this unparalleled chemistry that has complimented their characters very complicated relationship, so perfectly.

Thanks for doing this. :-)
Sep. 16th, 2008 07:15 pm (UTC)
I'm so glad you liked it. I'm really glad it worked for people, and that everyone seems to have picked out different blends that "spoke" to them. I think I picked the one from Labyrinth because it was another one of those scenes that highlighted the dichotomy of their relationship. Snarling and angry and accusing one minute, but then genuine warmth, concern, and yes, love, the next. Its a fascinating relationship.

I had to include the one from Trespass because, to me, these 2 will never be done. Not ever.
Sep. 19th, 2008 05:36 am (UTC)
Great work!! I love it so very much. The Clex is such an epic, tragic tale, and you've conveyed it beautifully in your choice of pictures and quotes. I will always remember the Clex.
Sep. 19th, 2008 03:59 pm (UTC)
Its unforgettable. Glad you enjoyed it. :)
Sep. 19th, 2008 03:55 pm (UTC)
this is sooooooooo stunning and beautiful and gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh guhhhhhhhhhhhhhh and so epic!
Sep. 19th, 2008 04:00 pm (UTC)
I'm glad you liked it. They really were epic, and thats even while fighting against some of the scripts, and the overall storyline direction. I can't even imagine what they would've been had their relationship really been highlighted throughout the show.
Sep. 19th, 2008 04:06 pm (UTC)
you are completely right
it probably could have been fantastic even without all the subtext.

They had a fantastic premise, archenemies CK and LL.
being friends. and then their legendary friendship crumbled under different moral view.. and so on.

*I* was lured into the show, not because I wanted the teh hot gay sex, but because I thought, they would do something along those lines.
Not that two friends grew apart, because of fatherly idiotic abusive behaviour , like Jor El and Lionel are, or that they fell in love with the same girl, and wanna have that girl carry their babies. or whatever.

sighs. I guess, I expected too much epic stuff, and not really saw all the teenage drama, alien invasion, and love triangles coming.
my mistake.
Sep. 22nd, 2008 02:21 am (UTC)
*applauding* Bravo!

Another incredible job. You really made some perfect choices to illustrate the complex but alway intense relationship between them.
Gosh, I miss having Lex on the show already. *sigh*
