Erica Durance Quote

For you big Erica Durance fans out there, she's on the cover of the NY Daily News NY Vue, which is their TV Guide in the Sundays paper.  And there's a nice article with her.  I'm sure it will show up online somewhere in the near future.

And Yay!Smallville! for one of the cast being on a cover of something.  At this point, and with no support from the CW, I'll celebrate whatever comes our way.  Same with Supernatural.

But there's one quote from Erica that I wanted to write here.  Its not terribly spoiler-ish, in that its nothing specific.  And its completely about Clark...or might that be Tom?  But in any case, it goes under the cut...

Type your cut contents here.

"This year, we'll actually see Clark being more of his own man" Durance says "He's so heroic.  I just think it's lovely what they've done for him."

Clark being his own man?  Being "so heroic"? EEEEEEEEE!!!  Because, see, for me, I think thats what this whole show is supposed to be about.  Clark really taking on that hero mantle, and embracing it is the whole reason I've been onboard for 7 years and counting.  Clark becoming his own man is EXACTLY where he should be at by this point.  For the last few years of the show, Clark has been idling in place, directionless, and caught in the spin cycle with certain relationships on the show that he had to work his way through, and emerge from.  And sounds like this season, he has.  I'm so excited that the show is going in his direction.  As far as I'm concerned, what took them so long?  Its not too fast for me.  Not at all.

And thanks Erica for taking a bit out of the interview to say something like that.

And then there was this part of me that couldn't help but wonder if Erica might've been talking a bit about Tom there in that last sentence, moreso then Clark.  "I think it's lovely what they've done for him".  Hmmmm.  Perhaps its just my conspiracy theory brain kicking, but I do believe the rumors that Tom was frustrated by Clark's direction for the last few years on the show.  And I can believe it would be so much more fun and rewarding for him to be able to step Clark up, play him as more adult, mature and self-assured, and get to go out and play the proactive hero.  I hope he's getting to have some fun.  So, is Erica saying its lovely for Clark, or lovely for Tom?  Or both?  I hope both.

The Clex blends picspam should be up in a little while :)  Finally!

You're Welcome. Its a nice little interview, so I hope someone posts it over at DI for all the Erica fans. She seems like a very nice woman.

OMG, how exciting is that to hear?! Thank you for sharing! *bounces* And doesn't every second of that Director's Cut clip bear out what she says? I think I've watched it about 10 times now, and I'm still not tired of it! Dirty, sexy, growly Clark, rolling around on the ground with Oliver and throwing punches?! *thud* Capslock warning: I CAN'T WAIT FOR THURSDAY!

I remain convinced that the departure of AlMiles made all the difference. They should give Tom a second trailer to apologize for that Siren commentary. He can keep his 14 dogs in it. ;)

LMAO

And I TOTALLY believe that AlMiles were the big problem when it came to the character of Clark Kent. It seems to me that they had a lot of problems seeing Clark at the hero, and main character of their show (which is NUTS!). I'm not saying PS3 are going to be up for any awards anytime soon, but at least they seem to be able to refocus on Clark in a positive, proactive way. I shudder to think where Clark would've been in a S8 with AlMiles still at the helm.

Thanks for the quote! I hope she's right; (and I believe she meant both Clark and Tom)

I hope she's right too. It seems to fit with what we've been hearing, but certainly we've been let down before.

I hope you like them. Its a bit longer then the Clana picspam, and I still wanted to go back and add 10 or so more.

And isn't that a nice feeling? Clark is very much my reason for being into this show, and for the first time in a long time, I feel like it could be a great year for him.

I really hope so. All the stuff I'm hearing is putting a lot of emphasis on Clark finally. I hope it delivers.

Exactly! I think its been pretty clear that the show was supposed to be about Clark's evolution into Superman. Certainly that hasn't always been handled as well as it should've been. But with the hope that they might be getting back to that? And really having Clark embrace all that he can be (sorry for the cliche)? Damn, thats GOOD NEWS! Thats the right direction for the show.

This is definitely another reason to be happy about, I'm really, really looking forward to this season! But I can only hope they'll keep this up, Smallville has a long history of regression when it comes to Clark.

As far as I'm concerned, what took them so long? Its not too fast for me. Not at all.

You know, it's funny because it reminds me of the people on the board complaining that if this happens, it would be just like a "lightswitch". *snort* Does that word hold any meaning anymore?

You're right about SV's track record with Clark. But I have a feeling, with this likely being Tom's last year, there isn't much reason to stall anymore. I think they are envisioning a S9 without Clark as the star of the show.

I don't know what "lightswitch" really means in fandom. It seems to me to mean any storyline that you don't like the direction of. But for me, I always thought Clark was getting there...he just needed that moment to really kick it into gear. And I think the trauma of the confrontation with Lex, plus the end of his relationship with Lana, then his experiances pre-Odyssey would be enough for him to finally make some big changes in his life.

Aww, I love Erica. :D And I totally think that Erica means both Clark and Tom. At least I'm hoping. :)

I can't help but think she meant Tom. I could be totally off base, but it just fits with what I've heard, and what I interpret Tom's preferences to be based on how he directs himself in the eps he's done.

Thanks so much for letting us know about this! Like you said, any publicity for Smallville is a step in the right direction.

I think I'll jump on your conspiracy bandwagon and agree that Erica's quote could also be applied to Tom. :-)

Yay! for a cover. At this point, I don't care what the cover is. I'd rather it be Tom, I'm not going to lie. But thats how own fault. So, yay for Erica.

Yay! I'm glad that ED's rousing up some publicity for SV. Now if only that darn Tom would do some I'd be a very very happy girl. ^-^

And that quote about Clark/TW sounds great - I really hope it comes true. Given that it's the last season, they should get their butts in gear and stop all the stalling.

*smiles* There are just so many nasty remarks about ED's interviews at TWOP; it's so nice to see positive comments about her for a change.

Yeah, I'm not at all pleased with Tom and his ongoing decision. I cut him a lot of slack when AlMiles were in charge. But really, at this point, he's just being a stubborn ass. I love him anyway though :P

The nasty and PERSONAL comments about Erica are childish and moronic. I can understand not liking a character on a show, but to say nasty shit about an actor/actress just doing her job, and trying to promote her show and her character? Really shameful behavior.

I know a lot of people are complaining, but S8 just seems to be clicking so far. I just hope we're right about this season kicking ass! *fingers crossed*

And good for Tom that he's finally getting to play a fun, happy and proactive Clark after all those years of being Lana-whipped. The man deserves it.

I guess it just depends what you want, or expect, from the show. For me, I always thought this show was about CLARK, and that his story taking a positive turn, and him becoming more proactive, more heroic and more sure of himself is what I've been watching for. And from what I'm hearing about S8, that seems to be his direction.

If the show isn't doing what you want? Well, then its probably time to turn the channel.

But I'm hopeful :)

I'm full on conspiracy theorizing here, heh. But I totally think that was directed for TW. I'm so pleased that TW seems happier with the direction the show/his character seems to be taking this season. As I just commented in LaT's lj, I'm half sold on the season already just hearing this.

And very cool on ED for getting a cover!
