Tom in Superman Poll

I know not everyone agrees that Tom Welling should take on the mantle of the big screen Superman, but I know a lot of my flist members agree with me that he's done some excellent work as our young Superman.  Even when the scripts seem to be fighting against him.  So, if you are so inclined, please go show Tom some support on this USA Today poll

Thanks!

I wish I was drunk right now! :-) Hopefully,it's a good kind of drunk though and not a sick or depressed kind.

Anyway, I voted for Tom of course! Then I read a few of the comments after the poll and got annoyed. Sometimes I just really hate people. Why can't everyone just vote and then go on their way? If you voted for Tom, there's no reason to bash Brandon and vice versa. And then someone made the comment about how Chloe is the star of SV now!?!?! Whatever...

I was only a little drunk. And it was a good kind.

And people just can't help themselves from saying nasty comments. I don't get it, but there it is...

voted and commented. Thanks for passing along the link. I enjoyed reading Brad Meltzer's article, too... now I'm really curious as to what the first line he put into Superman's mouth was!

You are welcome. And thanks! I honestly do think Tom would make a fabulous big screen Superman. Whether he himself agrees or not, I do think its a role he was born to play.

Mind if I put this up on my lj. I can't believe Tom ahead of Christopher Reeve!!

Please, spread the word. The more the merrier. I think Chris Reeve will always be the definitive Superman, but I think Tom is more this generations Superman.

Voted! Tom might want to play Superman on the big screen...MR said this weekend that he wouldn't rule out an offer to play Lex in a movie...taking the character out of Smallville might make all the difference to the actor.

I'm sure not going to say its impossible. I just don't want to come near to getting my hopes up. I did that with the JLA movie, and that completely fell apart.

Did Mike say why he wouldn't even consider a guest shot for S8? I'm curious if anyone asked him that question.

He didn't specify, but he began his interview segment by saying the hints that he would return to SV were untrue...he also said that after playing the same character for seven years, he was ready to move on and pursue an assortment of roles. Only kind words for the SV cast (especially Tom and John G.) and crew and writers.

I can't blame him at all for wanting to pursue other roles. I don't think people really appreciate how stifled actors feel when playing the same roles year after year, especially in the case of something like SV, where scripts can be, shall we say?, limited? Its not always about keeping a steady job.

I'm sort of hoping that after a few months, Michael will maybe consider a guest shot...as long as they can get around the head shaving part. Though if he doesn't, thats OK too.

And its very cool that he shows much love for his former SV peeps.

Voted TW. It was difficult for me to not vote CR, but I rationalized it more as voting ::for:: TW, as opposed to ::against:: CR---am I making any sense? Probably not, heh. But ya, as much as CR will always be THE Supes for me, I do think TW needs to/should be recognized as having done such an incredible job of playing this generation's Supes for seven years now. And his performance and screen presence just keeps on getting better and better every season, if that's at all possible.

I do honestly think that no-one better than TW could do justice to a big screen version of the character today. In all likelihood he probably won't reprise the role once he's done with SV, but nevertheless I feel that he'd always be my # 1 choice.

I know what you mean. As far as Superman's go, if I think strictly in terms of the suit, and the flying, and all that, then its Chris Reeve. If I think of Clark Kent, and really creating a character, and dealing with good and bad writing...well, then its Tom.

But I thought of this vote as signifying who I believe is the right Superman for right now, in this generation. I know that wasn't exactly the question, but thats how I answered the poll.
