Last Batch of SV Pictures, and other stuff

OK, all done with S1 of Glee.  I guess I'd say I was a tad disappointed in the Glee S1 finale.  Mostly in the "big" performance at Regionals, because it was not one of my favorite New Directions routines.  In fact, the routine they did one week earlier, the Funk routine, blew the Journey routine out of the freaking water.  With a vengeance.  However, I did enjoy the renditions of "To Sir With Love" and "Over The Rainbow".  In fact, I'm sort of obsessed with the latter.

As for the plot stuff, I mostly liked it, though I don't think its even possible for me to care any less if Rachel and Finn get together.

So, now I just wait for S2, and see if the show can hold onto to me.  Its sort of nice to add another show on to my watch list, because truth be told, I don't watch very much these days.  Smallville and Supernatural, Sons of Anarchy, Justified, Project Runway, and....oh yeah, thats pretty much it.

I know I had thrown out some ideas for Smallville stuff to keep us entertained in the next few weeks before the premiere, but the awful truth is,  I'm not feeling it.  I think all that nonsense with Facebook and Twitter just took my head totally out of the game.  Which wasn't too hard, because my head wasn't totally into it to begin with.  I really feel a general disinterest in SV's last season, which is just so damned depressing.

I sharpened up, and cropped, all the remaining SV pictures I had, and

I wish I had more good ones of Erica, but this is the best of the ones I got

Chuckles Hartley

Schneider, the Panel Hog

"Father" and "Son"

Am I the only one who thought Tom looked epically tired?

Not sure if I'm tuning into Glee s2.
What are your thoughts on the Finn-Kurt fight/argument in "Theatricality"? (thanks Wikipedia!)
Kinda swept the main issue under the rug.
Aug. 18th, 2010 02:36 am (UTC)
I think compared to Justin, Tom looked like a spring daisy. LOL

The Finn/Kurt thing? I could see both sides. I do think Finn overreacted, but Kurt can be a little over-the-top. So, I actually sympathize with both of them. I mean, lets be serious here, its not as if Kurt is going to force himself on Finn, so Finn acting like Kurt was going to jump him any minute seemed extreme.

I do understand that this issue is going to come up again in S2. It was brought up at the CC panel, and thats what they said.

But however I feel about, Burt defended his son made me cry.
Aug. 18th, 2010 02:43 am (UTC)
It's more than how they were reacting..dunno.

I'm glad it's being brought up..I sympathized with Finn more...Kurt was setting up their room the way he wanted to and had no consideration for Finn. The "f" word was used which was unfortunate as Finn had to apologize.

Aug. 18th, 2010 02:50 am (UTC)
Well, there's no doubt that Kurt can be overbearing, but since Finn seems to get turned on by Rachel being that way, I'm not sure why he'd be bothered with Kurt being that way.

I really think Kurt was trying to do something nice, but Kurt definitely oversteps boundaries. Having the boys share a room was sort of a stupid idea from the beginning.
Aug. 18th, 2010 02:55 am (UTC)
It was awful of Finn's Mom to spring it on him like that. *winces*
Aug. 18th, 2010 02:57 am (UTC)
I suppose.

If you're looking for a new show..I say Community...they seemed to have the hottest CC panel this year.

And really..how can this not be awesome http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZJHamGNOFQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcD_Y838DXA&feature=related.

Ok i'll stop pitching.
Aug. 18th, 2010 02:59 am (UTC)
I tried Community, but just couldn't stick with it. I'm not a great big fan of the 1/2 hour sitcom. But I do love Joel McHale with all my heart.
Aug. 18th, 2010 02:47 am (UTC)
Since Finn looks like a mature 27 (which CM is) and Kurt looks all of 16 (though the actor is 19), that scene came off to me as a cranky adult yelling at a kid. Would have worked better if both boys looked like boys!

Mike O'Malley is tremendous in that scene.
Aug. 18th, 2010 02:50 am (UTC)
Mike O'Malley is tremendous in every scene.
Aug. 18th, 2010 02:54 am (UTC)
He really is. So wonderful that he's gotten a chance to show he could do much more than "Yes, Dear."
Aug. 18th, 2010 02:45 am (UTC)
And finishing this off with His Royal Hotness
Ooh, he looks like he's having naughty thoughts there! Yum.

Erica is cute with her "finger guns" - that's one of the livelier photos I've seen of her at CC!

I know I had thrown out some ideas for Smallville stuff to keep us entertained in the next few weeks before the premiere, but the awful truth is, I'm not feeling it. I think all that nonsense with Facebook and Twitter just took my head totally out of the game.
I don't blame you - it was such a petty thing for them to do. Even G. has lost his SV-bounce over it, which I wouldn't have thought possible.

Have you heard Scrubs version of Over the Rainbow? It's along the same lines.

Apparently both versions are tributes to this beautiful version:
Aug. 18th, 2010 02:52 am (UTC)
Oh, I know G will get his bounce back. Me? Hmmm, we'll see. I think that was just the culmination of a lot of things.

Thanks for the links :)

I never get tired of that sexy cast. I gave up on Glee about halfway through season 1. I'm really glad you liked it and I actually have a couple of RL friends that love it. I think I've moved on. LOL
Aug. 18th, 2010 03:05 am (UTC)
You know, with Tom Welling as your lead, you would think they didn't need to look for beautiful people to surround him with. His beauty is enough for 10 people. And yet, they did.

Glee is still new for me. I make no predictions for what my reaction will me in S2 when I watch it in real time.
Aug. 18th, 2010 03:07 am (UTC)
Oh I forgot to mention this on my other comment but the pure joy on Tom's face is so great. He looks so excited with life. I love it.

I believe in Tom's case, its referred to winning the jackpot in the Genetics Lottery.

Of course, any one of the options you suggested might also be true ;)

Aug. 18th, 2010 04:32 am (UTC)
I tried 2 or 3 episodes of Glee and just couldn't get into the characters, and the bursting into song. LOL... It's not that I hate musicals or anything either. Actually, the only thing I did like about the show was the musical numbers. The storylines, characters, and general tone of the show befuddled me.
I'll have to find a video of the To Sir With Love number though. Omg, that used to be my favorite song. I'm sure I still have the 45 somewhere.

I love that picture of Erica pointing. I still have tons of Tom pictures, but very few of the other cast. Apparently I was totally mesmerized by The Man.
Aug. 18th, 2010 04:34 am (UTC)
Oh, and if you've never tried Friday Night Lights - I highly recommend it.
Dexter returns soon, and the DVDs for Spartacus will be out Sept. 21. Those are my suggestions, but I have odd tastes in shows, or so it's been said. :)
Aug. 18th, 2010 12:22 pm (UTC)
Thanks for the recommendations. I tried Spartacus, but I just couldn't stick with it. Tons of people recommend FNL to me. I don't know why I never watched it.

I think one of the reasons I stayed away from Glee for so long was the whole bursting into song thing. I didn't know how I'd react to that. But now it doesn't bother me at all. Its really the writing and consistency of character that is the potential problem, I think. And I just read where the showrunner was called out on this, and he said something flippant like "they're teenagers, they change their mind a lot", which doesn't bode well.

I have a TON more pics of Tom then anyone else. I wish I had taken more of Cassidy, but the angle with her was the hardest for my camera. And I wish I had captured a few more of the Justin and Erica's very, very few smiles.
Aug. 18th, 2010 08:58 pm (UTC)
FNL is a great show and worth it..reruns start soon so you can catch up on it.
Aug. 18th, 2010 04:24 pm (UTC)
I watched a couple of episodes of Glee and was midly interested. If I happen to catch it on re-runs I watch it but I'm not really that thrilled about it. I'm glad you are!

I watch "Castle" regularly because the plots are okay and I like what NF does with his character. I watch other shows too, of course, but I can't say I LOVE any of them, except the BBC "Sherlock". Sadly, they have produced and aired only three episodes so far. I've always LOVED the Sherlock Holmes character and I really like this adaptation (for the moment at least. lol )

Those pics of Tom are so WONDERFUL! He's the most beautiful man ever, IMO (big surprise here. lol )
Aug. 18th, 2010 08:52 pm (UTC)
I tried Castle, and NF is great, but I found I really, really disliked the female lead. And since I'm supposed to want them together, that was too big a hurdle for me to overcome.

And yes, I really do think Tom is among the most beautiful men ever.
Aug. 18th, 2010 09:21 pm (UTC)
I think you saved some of the best pics for last. Tom is so beautiful, and has such an expressive face. And how I love that perfect profile. Every pic of him you've shared is a treasure! Thank you so much, for all of them. ♥

"Chuckles Hartley" "Schneider, the Panel Hog"

LMAO! Your pics of everyone are great, I'm saving them all. I especially like the one of Erica pointing, that's too cute. I don't suppose you recall the context at all?

I'm afraid my squee is broken. I've slipped back into lurker mode for the most part, and comment late on everything, if at all. I joined fandom to share my love for Smallville and have fun, and recent events have left me feeling disconnected from other fans, and alienated from the show itself. I hope I can shake it off soon.
Aug. 18th, 2010 10:57 pm (UTC)
I sort of posted pics randomly, not in any particular order, so I too was suprised to find that some of the last were some of the best.

I think the pointing one is my fav shot of Erica. Unfortunately, she, like Justin, sort of had a sour puss for much of the day.

I know exactly how you feel with the whole squee thing, and the disconnect. I think the recent FB and twitter stuff wouldn't have hit me so hard if I was feeling excited for S10 in the first place. But really, I'm just not hearing the sorts of things that would get me excited. Sure, we have the very general statement of "Clark takes his final steps towards Superman", but I'm lacking the substance to those words based on what I've heard so far.
Aug. 18th, 2010 10:48 pm (UTC)
You got some really great shots Valerie! Thank you so much for sharing them with us. *Hugs*
Aug. 18th, 2010 10:58 pm (UTC)
You're very welcome. I couldn't be more happy with my SV CC shots if I tried.
Aug. 18th, 2010 11:07 pm (UTC)
Aw, that first pic of Erica is just too cute! :D Who's she pointing at anyway?

I'm sorry to hear about the fandom kerfuffle, sucking out the joy from everyone. I think PS are the sort of showrunners that do best by not engaging the fans directly at all.
Aug. 19th, 2010 02:08 am (UTC)
I don't recall who she was pointing at, but I think it was Cassidy.

And I agree with you that PS have no real fandom skills, so its probably better for them to just step back. I find them both very goofy and awkward.
Aug. 20th, 2010 03:37 am (UTC)
Love your pictures! SV Cast are goregous and the whole cast look like they could use a sabbatical, tired and worn out. I agree on your thoughts about the season 1 finale. Love Rachel but I don't love Finn/Rachel either she was a better fit with Jesse.

I watch Modern Family, Cougar Town, The Vampire Diaries and Parks and Recreation from time to time you may enjoy those shows. I couldn't get into Castle either and the female lead has no sense of humore and the male lead annoyed me though the cast is great on that show.
Aug. 20th, 2010 04:37 pm (UTC)
Thanks for the pic compliments. When you consider that Cassidy, Erica and Justin were all partying the night before as well, I think you can understand why they look tired.

Finn and Rachel just feel so cliche to me. Like its happening because its been preordained, but it isn't that interesting in reality. To me, the actors just don't click all that well, not compared to how they click with others.

Heh. Cliche! I agree about that one. You really nailed it down about the whole preordained thing. I would like there dynamic better if it wasn't typical boy jock + the girl outsider, who is goregous but not popular and has no friends. They are better as friends though they were kind of sweet in the season finale even the I Love You thing.
Aug. 21st, 2010 01:48 am (UTC)
Well, thats the thing, the cliche doesn't even really work anymore either since they've downplayed Rachel's undesireability quite a bit (Finn, Jesse and Puck all showed desire for her, not to mention the paralyzed guy who seemed instantly smitten). And as far as Finn being the jock, doesn't it seem like he's a lousy athelete, and totally not popular anymore?
Aug. 21st, 2010 04:58 am (UTC)
True. As far as Finn goes throughout Season 1 when joining Glee he has lost most of his popularity and yea he is pretty lousy. I was typing faster than I was thinking on that one. LOL! He went from typical! dumb jock to not so typical jock, but even still it doesn't work not only because of that F/R really don't have that great chemistry going for them either like R/J or even P/R. It is that typical high school sweetheart romance feeling like Dean and Rory from Gilmore Girls.
Aug. 21st, 2010 01:52 am (UTC)
Lovely pictures. LOL @ Schneider being a panel hog. Tom looks wonderful as always. :D Thanks for sharing the pics.

So you watched the first season of Glee! I almost stopped watching because of the stereotyping but Kurt just tugged at my heartstrings so totally and unexpectedly. When he came out to Mercedes I cried. When he came out to his dad and the football players danced I cried. I pretty much cry whenever his dad does something awesome. The Hummels own me!

I was really digging Rachel/Finn until they kissed! She made a lunch for them to eat while rehearsing or something. I didn't get into them again until he teased her about her crazy calendar way later in the season. Then there was the whole Jesse/Finn/Puck video and that killed it again! So... But Rachel and Puck have AMAZING chemistry. So I understand what you mean about their chemistry together being lacking compared to them with other characters.

Sue Sylvester is magical. I like the balance between the faculty plots and the teen plots. I like the risks that the show takes and the vicious comedy. I'm hoping that they learn something about choreography in season 2. Those Glee club dance numbers (except in Artie's dream and Britney's hammer dance) pretty much suck.

Have no clue what's going on in Smallville fandom but I'm actually kind of excited to see a Smallville season where the writers KNOW it's the end.
Aug. 21st, 2010 02:23 am (UTC)
Hey, I'm just calling it as I see it with Schneider. I mean, this is a guy who didn't even acknowledge any other cast member but Tom.

I think Glee is a show that plays with stereotypes, and thats OK if you are really paying attention. I know that may not make sense, but you have to give characters a lot of substance if you are also going to play with the stereotypes.

I think anytime Kurt and his father have a scene, I tear up. But I actually did that a lot over the first season. Artie realzing he wasn't going to get out the wheelchair was another one, Mercedes having the diet talk with Quinn was another one.

Puck has chemistry with everyone. But I think I'm already in love with him and Quinn pretty much. Them "baking" was possibly the cutest thing ever.

I love Sue...except for one thing. I hate when they let Will zing her back (and it happens rarely), and then we're all supposed to feel bad for Sue, for some reason.

SV fandom is SV fandom. Same ol', same ol'
Aug. 23rd, 2010 02:38 am (UTC)
Thanks so much for the last installement of Tom pics. There is almost no point any more praising his beauty: I can't add anything that hasn't been said before. Words don't suffice anyway... :)

No comment on Glee: I haven't seen it and it's not featured on German TV. That cheerleader stuff is probably too American... lol So I guess we won't see Hellcats either.
Aug. 23rd, 2010 01:42 pm (UTC)
You are very welcome. I'm just sorry this is the last batch. It sort of closes the book on CC 2010, and thats a little sad.
